I went to Flagstone today to play nine holes and see how my stamina would hold up after dealing with Covid this week.

I can't say I played to bad considering I'm still not up to my usual amount of energy and the fact I was rushing a bit considering the heat index was brutal.

I shot 56 with 16 putts, that's with one 3 putt and a 4 putt from 14 feet on 5. I made up for that a little bit on 6 by sinking an 18 footer from the fringe.

Overall, it wasn't a bad day. My driving was mediocre, iron play was pretty good, my chipping was horrendous (way too many two chips), and my putting was its normal self except for the 4 putt.

I lost two balls on errant drives that led to a couple of 8's on par 4's and I feel like if I could have cleaned that up, I could have shot better. I just got gassed and was trying to hurry up and finish. What I'm proud of is the fact that I was sticking to a better pre shot routine and was hitting the ball better from the fairway. It wasn't perfect, but it was progress and I'm happy with that.

I did manage to make par on the par 5 6th hole from a really bad spot. My drive was a pull hook that landed between tee boxes on 5. I hit decent 5 wood to the left edge of the fairway, I then hit a great 3 wood 30 yards short. My next shot was a chippy wedge that landed a hair long and left of the pin just off the fringe. I hit the 18 footer into the heart of the hole for the par.

I feel like I've still got a long ways to go to get my game where I want, but am happy with being able to pull out some good shots today. I'm fairly tired after the round, but it was a blast getting out and playing.

Did you walk or ride? The first couple times I played after COVID I was EXHAUSTED by the time I finished 9, even though I rode because of how hot it was.

Like you, I rode today. I figured with the heat it might not be the best idea to walk. I'm still recovering after being home for two hours. I was planning on getting out on the riding mower this afternoon, but I don't think I'm going to do that.

I have played everyday this week since Sunday. Been working on some equipment changes on the bottom side of the bag Now I have not played vintage this week but have been concentrating on equipment changes on the bottom end of the bag. A friend of mine who is a Titleist staffer gave me a brand new in the plastic a SM-5 L grind 58* wedge. I fell in love with it. Got to looking through the stash and found a SM-4 50* in good shape, Suspect it was from either my late friend Little Bear or my other late friend Wild Willie. Anyhow played it Monday and made adjustments Monday afternoon. Bumped it up a notch to 51* mainly for some extra bounce. Worked out good and both wedges have outstanding feel.

The main change was in both the putter and my technique. I had been studying Faxon Pavin and Crenshaw. Had went back 2 weeks ago to a Bulls Eye that I love everything about. Fellow MGSer Motoboss and I had discussed round putter grips on the putter thread. Got into the stash and found 2 NOS Lamkin round leather wrap grips. Put one on the Bullseye. Putted lights out with the Bullseye last Saturday. I also adopted my own style with the thing. Line up on the ball relax my hands and open the left side some. I do not worry on the mechanics any do not know if sometimes I wrist stroke or pop stroke it all I knows it has a good chance of going in.

Played 18 early this AM and it was rough. Course wet from dew plus they have started mowing in earnest. Kinda like raking hay in the fairway. No roll at all and the roughs are plush and ankle deep now. I played 1 ball and played the ball down. Did ok shot +3 (75) with no birdies but several lip outs which at least I am hitting the hole. Had some up and down par saves. Really without any roll it was tough into some of the par 4s. But had to get creative some when I caught the edge of the rough. On hole it was deep and if I was in the fairway it would have been a float cut 9 wood or a stout 6 iron. I had to hit a low cut 4 iron flyer that got hot over the green. Where I ended up I was lucky to get it down in 3. But I went back to my game plan and plotted myself around the course. I have been getting caught up lately too much in the Scramble mode. This week I am going to put on my binders and go back to playing my game. One of my partners will not like it but to heck with him. He had something smart to say last week about the Bullseye. I snapped my Stu growl back at him and told him not to worry about what was in my bag worry about what was in his. I do not think he has ever seen a Bullseye in the flesh. He is right before me kicking him to the curb. Supposed to play tomorrow Good Lord willing. Since I have been on my little golf marathons I have dropped weight again and have loosened my back up feeling pretty well

Glad you are playing well, but even more glad that you are healthy enough to play everyday. I know it's been a long road for you after your accident.

Yep it has not only the back deal but rebuilding my whole swing not to hurt myself. With reduced distance I had to revamp my mental approach too and learn how to plot my way around the course. Since I have started playing a lot my short game has returned. I also had to revamp on the equipment end by taking out the 2 and 3 irons and putting in the 7 and 9 woods in permantally. I had to teach myself some new tricks with those too. But yeah I think I have rounded the corner

Stunk it up today. Ball striking poor, putting stunk, scoring proved it. 43/43.

Went out later with my wife ( she’s just learning) and played 3 holes and I shoot 1 under.  Go figure.

I played yesterday in our Members League. For 9 holes it was a continuation of my good play from Saturday, putting up a 41 on the front but my personal “Gauntlet” is the first 4 holes on the back 9 of our Davis Love course. They got me again today, big time. How big? 8 over on the 4 of them, and to be honest, the heat got so bad (we teed off at 1028) I really didn’t care. I just wanted  it to be over and be done with the round.
It was a total breakdown… from driver to putter. I somehow finished birdie par, which at least kept me under 50 but I ended up with a 49, which added up to 90. Obviously, I wasn’t close to cashing.
The plan was to go out and play 18 again today, but this heat has been relentless. After 9 holes, my buddy and I bailed and headed back to the clubhouse. That will be it until Saturday, when the forecast calls for more of the same. Low 90’s, high humidity, heat index over 100.
We keep saying this heat wave has to break soon, but there’s no end in sight right now.

Tough round. Bogey golf +9 (45) with 2 penalties.

6/7 tee shots on non par 3s resulted in either a penalty or a 90* punch out to get back into play……can’t score playing like that!

Take away the tee shots and the play was good. Irons were good and wedges were stellar. I had 4 shots of 25-60 yards and my average distance to the pin was 6’….I’ll take that!

Tournament tomorrow so the big stick better show up

Played a Stableford today.  Felt like I struck the ball better today than yesterday.  Putting wasn't bad, but I had far too many that burned the edge or came to a stop just short of falling in.  Still didn't score well today despite feeling better about the shots.  43/42.  Lot of bogeys (and 2 doubles).

I posted the other day about switching drivers, so this was my first round with the new Ping LST.
344, 307, 338, 309, 352, 305, 325, 302, 322 were my recorded drives. Hit 57% of fairways. Now, these fairways are dead flat and DRY, so I got some good run. I did not score well because I can’t hit a wedge from inside 100 yards! I still have serious yips.

... Dayum PMook I think I could shoot a 59 with those drives! Well done. 🤗

... Still riding my hot streak and I feel like Tin Cup describing my best shot of the day "Was it the 4 hybrid I hit to 6 feet on #9 for Eagle? Or the 5 iron I hit to 6 feet on #12 for Eagle?" Another great day on the course and missed 3 makable birdie putts inside 8 feet with these slightly bumpy, aerated greens that are still a week or two away from being back to normal. They are re-leveling 4 tee boxes and I got to tee off on the senior tees for the 2 Eagles at 472 and 476 but still had to hit an accurate 4hy and 5 iron and make the putts.

... I kept track of GIR's and what club I used today. Hot streak indeed because I hit 12 GIR's and that is just not the norm as I am probably around 7-10 and some days 5 or 6 or less when I am struggling. I missed greens with pw, 5, 5, gw, 7, 6 irons. The pw I went after a ball left open and caught the fringe but still rolled down the slope and my only bogie of the day from 132. 🙄 Then on severe downslope I caught my Gw fat leaving a 62yd Lw I stuck to 3 feet. On #6 I hit the pin dead solid with my Gw from 117 and instead of a tap in I had a 15 footer that somehow found the cup so some karma justice. And since Rick is still convalescing I included some bacon that gave me the energy to go low today and should make him feel a little better! 😇

... I think we all know Bold Talk when we hear it so a 59 is strictly for a video game. I missed 2 greens today with a Gap wedge and a Pitching wedge for a bogie so huge drives are no guarantees. 🤪

Tuesday & this morning (Friday) did the Exec 9 “chip & putt”.  Knee feeling better all the time after 9 weeks TKR.  Hit a couple wedges from 90-100 yards and felt OK.
Hit 8 iron for a couple chips and I’m getting really antsy about a Ping ChipR.

Yesterday Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights.  This hole pretty much sums up the round, lol:

Screenshot_20220805-093454.png.ab141d5cf67b1bb179f2d238668b5573.png

Nothing felt comfortable, and even worse is I rubbed off on Owen!  He had a pair of his own snowmen and duffed FOUR chips after flying the green on eighteen.  Even when things went well they were bad; he stripes one down the middle of the fairway and managed to find a strip of grass that was missed by the mower:

IMG_20220804_092402844.jpg.fdab77d788ea6a95e185e5d581ff882c.jpg

All in all, a poor day of golf but still a great day overall!  He shot 50 and I went 53.  We want to get out today but all the local courses have outings so we'll have to let this one marinate for another day.
