Was a good time, met a few guys from one of my vendors we use for roof repairs. great cause all the money went to the fisher house, we’ll worth the money. course was decent and was 3 of us so we had a lot of extra shots, split them up nicely between the 3 of us. tee game was meh, but was smoking the 3W off the deck and my irons were A+ again. Started draining putts on the back. we went -8 with 3 yes read it correctly, 3 bogeys on the front (started on 2) woooooof we joked around that we just needed to warm up. this hole was great, my only decent drive of the day and I hit this monster draw 3 wood, hit the front of the green and bounced off pin high. Alf. S
On 8/8/2022 at 4:45 PM, Alf. S said: We have the equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle or Twilight Zone at our course, let me try to describe it. The 2nd and 16th run parallel to each other, the 2nd running south to north and the 16th north to south. The 2nd can be a card wrecker it is a narrow fairway that cambers left to right with a steep bank of knee high grass and undergrowth on the right and a steep bank running off to the 16th fairway on the left. To compound this the prevailing wind is left to right. For most golfers who hit it left to right the drive is to aim for the left side of the fairway and look for a cut or wind to bring it back to the fairway. Too far left and you hit the bank on the left and the ball heads on the 16th fairway out of sight. This mysterious Twilight Zone resides on the 16th Fairway about 200yds off the 16th tee and 240 - 260 yds off the 2nd tee. Balls hit off the 2nd just disappear or they miraculously change manufacturer and number (normally changing from Pro V1 to Top Flite). Balls have been known to lie in the fairway for hours unclaimed by the discerning golfer, identified and left with a shrug. Normally these mysterious incidents happen when the mystical Sages of the club are playing the 16th. These old, weathered Sages usual travel around in 4s and come out between 9am to 1pm every weekday to do their ritual course worshipping. They can normally seen scampering off into the distance after one of these incidents and if challenged they will impart some of their knowledge, abridge with some Scottish adjectives and nouns. "I never took your ball, bleep off you bleep" My Callaway turned into a Top Flite today at the 2nd There are also know for their pearls of wisdom and 100% hindsight if you play with one of these Sages. No matter your age after you play a bad shot they can be heard saying "Aye son, I don't think you want to do that" Better day with driver and approach shots today, changed my setup and now hitting the ball a lot better and consistent. Putter setup was a bit iffy on the front 9 missing 3 from inside 4 feet but sorted this out on the back 9. Played again today game is moving in the right direction Drivin still causing me problems but this was mainly due to me coming out of the shot. Remember my description of the 2nd, well cut it down the bank off the tee and made double. Picture below shows the 2nd with the Twilight Zone just above where I played my 3rd shot 3rd again cut and though I had lost my ball right played, realised I was coming out the shot, hit a provisional and drove the green. 4th still a bit concerned about cut so aimed a little to far left and ended up losing the ball. 3 over for the first 4 and 6 over for the remainder. Still tweaking my putting setup had a few good chances for birdie at 2, 10, 14 and 15 missed them all but did make a good one for bogey on 4 after the lost ball. Out again today making the most of the good weather then off into Edinburgh for dinner. ejgaudette, sirchunksalot, cnosil and 5 others 8 Quote WIMB Driver Callaway Epic 10.5' Fujikura Stiff 3W Callaway Epic 15' Fujikura Stiff 3-AW Srixon Z565 Nippon Stiff 52', 56' Cleveland RTX 585 Wedges Putter Taylormade Rosa Daytona Bags 2017 Callaway Org14 Cart bag or 2018 Srixon Z start Carry bag
Shapotomous
Played in the 9 hole golf league last night and I was real happy with a 38. I had to go through the extra bags in the shop to pull a set together. My normal gamers were in the car from this past weekend trip and I came home about 3 to find my kid had taken the car for the day as hers is getting worked on and was 2 hours away. I was out of the info loop on this or I would have got my bag out of the car. Off the tee I used a 15* version of the hybrid I normally play (18*) so that was familiar. The fairways were running about 10 on the stimp due to the hot & dry weather so distance wasn't much of an issue! I used my old Wishon design Golfsmith Tour Cavity 4 - LW irons and the Ping Heppler Fetch putter. After adjusting to the feel & yardage of the irons on the first two holes the biggest impact was distance control with the wedge game. I noticed with the irons the ball flight was much higher, a little shorter and being more upright they wanted to go a bit to the left. Re-calibrated my club selection and aimpoint and things improved for the last 7 holes. The shots I lost were from flying the green with partial wedge's. It was fun to play a 9 with more 'feel' than usual with the irons. ejgaudette
Got out for a quick morning 9 and had one of my best 9 hole scores ever. Shot an even par 36. Moved up from the tips today to have bit more fun and it worked indeed. Driver was much better and hitting the shorter shots into greens was great. I would love to say it was boring but I still missed a handful of greens but mostly just short so I could just run a pitching wedge up like a putt. Popular Post mikeanthony
PING’s new ChipR wedge has gotten a lot of attention as of late, and rightfully so. Been following @jlukesthread on it and learned that the shaft has a more upright lie angle and is the loft of my current 9i. This past Sunday, I had 3 up & down 1-putt pars with the 9i just off the green. My short game and bump-n-run game have always been a strong suit … however standing a bit more upright, with the heel slightly off the ground, and without too much shaft lean worked wonders in the results and confidence dept. Popular Post Rickp
Tuesday Exec 9 at the course in back of our house. It’s been shut down for 3 months to add a cart path due to excessive water during rain season on the Par 4’s. Tees boxes were Ok but greens bumpy. The holes looked like they were cut with a Skill Saw with a dull blade. I’m still keeping it simple playing with shots/holes 100/125 max. GolfSpy_KFT
Played a quick 9 yesterday evening with some buddies (beautiful 79 degree Wisconsin summer day) but shot a 55. I'm a high handicapper still working on getting consistent. Had a great impromptu range session last Saturday with my 5 year old who wanted to go hit some golf balls after his First Tee program finished up last week, unfortunately the ball striking from that session didn't carry over. Hit some great shots off the tee throughout the round but struggled with my 2nd/3rd (on par 5s) shots. Didn't card higher than a 7 on any hole, but a double and triple on the par 3s really put me in a tight spot. Going to focus more on my swing tempo next week when we play again and not get in a hurry from the top of my backswing. 15 minutes ago, Rickp said: Tuesday Exec 9 at the course in back of our house. Popular Post MaxEntropy
About a week and a half ago, @DiscipleofPenick made a suggestion that I shorten my iron swing as it had gotten very long (I assume SuperSpeed is at least partially to blame). The past couple rounds have been much better from an iron perspective and I'm really happy about it. Last night in league, a different issue popped up - my intention was to stick with the long swing for driver as it had been working pretty well and reign it in for irons. The problem was I didn't feel right with a driver and I assume I had some awkward in-between swing that wasn't totally effective. I didn't get into any real trouble, just short and weird - a couple pulls and a couple heely sliders. Approach and short game saved me, though, and I ended up with a 39 (+4). I was E on the three par 3's, -1 on the par 5's, and +5 on the par 4's (with 1 double). My best shot was was about a 180 yard 6 iron on the 9th that I stuck to about 10 feet. Never mind that I totally brain-farted the birdie putt and left it 3 feet short . Fortunately, I made the par. cnosil, MattF, GolfSpy_KFT and 9 others 12 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 SW: RTX Zipcore Black Satin 54* LW: TAIII Black 58* Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Testing Complete, Final Review Posted: Sub70 TAIII Forged Wedges

Popular Post MDGolfHacker
Played with a bunch of spies this past weekend (you can read about it here: Queenstown's river course is target golf at its finest with views along the water. Temps started in the mid-80s and quickly climbed to Maryland's humidity soaked 100* degrees. The swing during warm-ups didn't quite feel right and it showed. Shot a 47 on the front 9. The back, more of the same as the front with a few more pars thrown in 44 total 91 for the round. Sundays round was on the Lakes course of Queenstown. Swing was feeling great! Started hot shooting a 2 over par front 9 for a 38, then lost focus and never got it back shooting a 46 for a total of 84. While I wanted so bad to shoot a sub 80s round, I enjoyed the day for what it was, hanging out with fellow spies and having fun. CarlH
Off to a slow start today. 3 putted the first hole for a bogey, then bogeyed #2 (although to be fair, this hole I am happy with a bogey as it's one that I can't reach in two normally), then on the par 5 #3, I toe jammed the driver OB and made a double. My 8 iron off the tee on the par 3 was a pull hook that nearly found the pond, but ended up pin high in the grass area between the rocks around the pond and the green. By the time the fourth player teed off, the rains began.....and rain it did! For the next 20 minutes we took cover from the downpour beneath the trees, as much as that did. It rained hard and fast, leaving standing water on the greens and rivers running through the fairways. When it subsided, we headed for the clubhouse, knowing that the course was going to be unplayable for the immediate future. When I got home, I noted the rain gauge on my porch showed 0.8 inches in the 30 minutes or so of rain. Another friend that lives on the other side of the course than I (closer to where we were waiting for the rain to stop) said his gauge read 1.4 inches. The good news is that after being +4 after 3 holes, I didn't finish playing. Hopefully, I would have righted the ship, but then again....maybe not! cksurfdude, JerryB, Rickp and 5 others 8 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. Popular Post MattWillGolf
Today’s 9 holes can be classified as a good day on the course. Shot a 51. Hit 3 of 7 fairways. With 2 other drives just a foot off into the rough and 2 god awful slices. I’m getting closer to putting it together as it were, famous last words. I had 6 bogeys which included 2 par putt lip outs. Only one 3 putt which was on a par 3 that included a pathetic chip which was preceded by a pulled tee shot over the the far left side of the green the first putt was over 30 feet. Popular Post chisag
... Ca-RaZy but oh so much fun day on the course! High school qualifier right behind us so the greens were cut and rolled and in good shape for a change. Yeah! After a ho-hum 73 yesterday with 2 bogies and 1 birdie you would think with only 7 pars and 3 bogies todays round might be worse. But 1 birdie and an eagle on the front and 5 birdies on the back made for a roller coaster day. And a Haboob appeared on the 13th green with sand and winds screaming about 35-45 mph for the next 3.5 holes. Hit a 6 iron from 148 and still came up just short of the green and it was hard to putt with that wind and sand in your eyes and I made a bogie. Next hole was straight downwind and almost drove the slight dogleg 344yd 15th that is shorter as the crow flies, then almost chipped in for another eagle and settled for a tap in birdie. Next hole straight back into the wind and hit a nice drive but still had 185 and my knock down DHy came up short, pitch into that wind came up short of the pin and I missed the 8 footer for another bogie. 520 yd par 5 with a 3/4 helping wind off the tee then just like that, the Haboob was gone. Layed up with my DHy and stuck a Gw from 115 to 6 inches. 366 finishing hole and another really good drive leaving me 98yds, a tweeter yardage and came up 8 feet short but rolled in the putt for my 5th birdie on the back 9. ... I really was just playing average golf til the drive on #8 found the water with a rare push slice, took my drop and my swing just really came to life and hit my 5 iron from 185 right over the flag but 25 feet long. But that 5 iron kick started the craziness hitting a driver and 5 iron to 6 feet on the next hole and made the putt for eagle. What might be of interest to @Lacassem is I played my Forged Tec's in honor of his winning the MGS contest and they were quite obviously happy to be out of the closet. Edit: Such a crazy round I forgot to add up the score. 68. CarlH, Rickp, MDGolfHacker and 13 others 14 2 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Ventus Red Velocore 5R Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ... Haha I was too ashamed.... But here are the (very few) highlights: Saturday/River - 1st hole decent enough tee shot (Gold/Senior tee) into the right rough but high and dry; 2nd shot nailed a 6i (which I rarely hit, usually just my escape from jail club) and and hit the green!; 2 putt par! 2nd hole short Par 3 (the one behind the cottage) .. pin high right and down in the bunker; stabbed it out to the right of the pin; sightly downhill but reasonably straight putt and roll it in for an up & down par! Sunday/Lakes - another short Par 3 flag back-right .. landed pin high right in the Bermuda rough and kinda short-sided .. bump it out with the LW onto the fringe and ball rolls out even with the pin .. fairly straight putt for another up & down par! Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Great day, had a round with my dad, son and cousin Dave (don't mind the blinking child) Went 83 with 1 bird, 9 pars, 4 bogeys and a whopping 4 doubles....3 of them off penalties Multiple 3 putts also hurt when 2 of them were legit birdie chances and turned into a slippery bogie... Tale of the day was my Son Matt playing a really solid round of golf, including his first ever bird on a short part 4. beautiful drive chip and putt for his first experience at a trifecta hole. It was nice to see him realize why he should be playing from the red tees. He consistently was around our first shots, took him a little bit more to get to the green in between but had well over a dozen really great contact shots from all over. Also let him drive the cart for most of the round (again dont mind the blinking child) Had one shot where we were stuck behind the group and we were not able to go yet and he really wanted to take a shot from "the white tees" this hold is a force carry and from the whites is a good 110-120 yards to clear....Really didnt think he would get it done, alas he cleared it with about 20 yards to spare....he ended up playing from the red anyway (smart man) but he definitely rubbed it in my face with the "see told ya I could make it"....Keep that attitude kid!...I got the last laugh because I birdied this hole with a nice 48* in after a bomb drive and put it to 6" One highlight of the day was the par 3 5th (230 yards from the blue tees) where my cousin and I absolutely hit beautiful 3 woods and stuck them to 15' and for me 5'....my dad put it to 5' from 200 and Matt put it to 20'. Was a really cool series of events that we all landed the green on a hole and hopefully not the last. Unfortunately I missed that putt like a jack wagon. (Dad left, me right, just right of the frame my cousin and just right Matt) Kiddo was toast at the end of the round Vegan_Golfer_PNW, mikeanthony, Kenny B and 12 others 9 4 2 Quote Check out my reviews: G710 Irons Official Review I MC Shaft & V Series Putter Official Review 2022 Forged Tec's Official Review I Nitron Push Cart Official Review WITB: Weapons of grass destruction (link to WITB) Traverse is filled with all this shiny metal and tracked by RadSpeed 8* - MotoreX F1 6X SIM 3W - Project X HZRDUS Green U505 Driving Iron 17* - Project X HZRDUS Black SpeedZone 4H - Project X HZRDUS Black 2022 King Forged Tec's 4-PW - KBS $ Tape 130 48 (SM8), 52 & 60 (SM7) - Nippon Modus 125 S ER2VI PROV1X #19 Are you a veteran? mikeanthony
On 8/10/2022 at 10:04 AM, MaxEntropy said: About a week and a half ago, @DiscipleofPenick made a suggestion that I shorten my iron swing as it had gotten very long (I assume SuperSpeed is at least partially to blame). Been there. And agree that it’s a combination of SuperSpeed and the weighted SKLZ yellow ball trainers that did it for me, too. My irons were beginning to get a bit long as well, that I began focusing too much on my take away and shortening my back swing … to the point that I was using just all arms. Realized after a few holes that I wasn’t really rotating my hips and pushing weight down onto the inside of my right foot. Led to a lot of really hard draws, pulls or arrow straight shots that started dead left. Was seeing that both with my driver and iron swings. A better hip turn/rotation on the takeaway fixed it. cksurfdude, MattF, sirchunksalot and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: G410 SFT 10.5* 3W: Speedzone 14.5* Hybrid: TS2 19* & 21* Irons: Forged Tec One Length (5i-GW) Wedges: T22 55* & 59* Putter: 002 Mid-Mallet Ball: Callaway Chrome Soft LS & Prime-X
