With 2 penalty shots (both water hazards (#4 par 3 and #17 par 4, saving bogey on both holes), I shot a 78.  17 putts on the front 9 (40) and 12 putts on the back 9 (38).  But, that's really deceiving information.  Although there were only 29 putts for the round, it's more telling that I didn't make any birdies, so all those 1 putts (including 2 that were from off the green and I didn't count as a putt) were to save par.  Still, I'm pleased with the round (no doubles!!!!). 6 bogeys, 12 pars.

Nice round Carl!  I just had a similar one; did not "feel" as good as the score.  Hey, we take em' when we get em' and be happy about it 🙂.

Great round! To pull off a 73 with that kind of bad luck is phenomenal. It's been fun watching the progression of your game these last few years and I have no doubt that you'll break par soon.

And yet it was just a week or so ago that you couldn't hit anything!!  This is golf; can't get discouraged when things don't go well for a round or three.  Focus and trust and play!

I focused on staying "neutral." I was getting so wrapped up in the scores and bad swings that I couldn't actually focus on what was going "wrong" in my swing. I spent some time on the range and found a few thoughts/keys, and then today I just really tried to not let my emotions swing too far one way or another. I still hit a few clunkers (one that led to the double bogey, and another on No. 16 that led to a bogey when I was 1-under at the time), but I tried to focus on the next shot and things worked better for me.

The shots weren't mutually exclusive - the three-putts led to the double bogey and two other bogies. Two of the missed three-footers were that double-bogey and bogey. I also got bailed out by my course on two or three drives that went well right of my target. My course allows a right miss off the tee in several spots, and I took full advantage of that this morning.

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. It was a fun round for sure and something I can build on (although my season is fast coming to an end).

Early 605 tee time this morning. 3rd group off and I was just paired with another walking single. Great guy same age as me and was a pretty damn good golfer. Guess he had been struggling with his driver and has a driving iron and he smokes the thing (hit his driver on 1 hole and that was it), was impressive. We passed the two groups ahead of us by hole 8 and cruised to my kind of round, 3 hours 10 minutes and done.

Struggled on the front with alignment, struggled pulling everything left and just could not get myself in a good position setup wise. Worked it out by hole 10 though. Luckily was hitting the ball well so I was just off greens. Around the green helped me out big time.

79 with 2 birdies, 9 pars, 5 bogeys and 2 doubles (both on the front).

Was not long off the tee today but the back was throwing darts with the irons and put a handful of short irons/wedges to 5’ and finally started making a few birdie putts.

... Great round! One of the things many will find if they play a practice round if they can have the course to themselves, is often a bad swing will produce shots almost as good as your best swing. Hitting a hybrid a little thin from 205 that carries 150 and rolls 60 is not any different than a well struck hybrid that flies 200 hops and stops. Obviously a hook or slice is a different story but I am always amazed at how good bad shots can turn out. Especially off the tee with a driver.

... The point being when you play, just accept the bad swings because even at your level of play they are going to happen but you don't need to "fix them" during a round because you will probably put a good swing on the next shot. Golf always will be about managing your worst shots, so have a short memory and focus on the shot you are playing. Clearly shooting a 73 you have a good swing and a solid game. One of the Ah Ha moments for me as watching my favorite player at the time, Freddie Couples hit 2 hooks OB off the first tee in a tourney and I realized if someone at his level can hit back to back horrendous shots, why do I think I should hit good shots every swing?

I lucked out had slots available Friday. I was worried about the light, and when I got up this morning it was pretty dark but right at 6 it brightened up (that picture). It’s definitely getting close though. Not setting clocks back will help too

I can relate. I started out the summer great - then quickly flamed out - so much so I told my wife a month ago I was thinking about quitting golf. Then 3 weeks ago my drive came back and feeling pretty good overall about my swing. As the old saying goes: "it's called golf because all the other 4 letter words are taken".

Time to see Randy? I know he's pretty booked up - but maybe he can squeeze you in as an emergency case.

My course just moved weekday tee times back to starting at 7 (very annoying that they do these big jumps and don't do rolling tee times ) so morning rounds are over on weekdays. Weekends are still 6:30 for now.

Time to see Randy? I know he's pretty booked up - but maybe he can squeeze you in as an emergency case.
