I lost one ball 2nd hole the other 3 guys I didn’t bother to count. I didn’t feel comfortable over the ball all morning. Popular Post RollingGreens
Got in a early morning round this weekend with the group. Haven’t been playing well so I went out without any expectations. Started off playing pretty good. Hitting fairways and greens and on a few bad drives I punched out to the fairway for bogeys saves. Outside of literally cold topping my 3 wood off the tee I had a good front for a 42. Played phenomenal on the back. Unfortunately missed a 3 foot birdie putt on a side hill lie. Ended up on a 215 yard par 3 not taking enough club and dumping it into the water for a double. Finished with a birdie on 18 for a 38, playing the back 2 over. 11/14 on fairways and 10/18 on greens. Really a great round. I’d replay a hole or two different to elongate a double but outside of that I couldn’t be happier. I didn’t do anything great and really played simple golf. Lots of simple shots and good 2 putts. No 3 putts the whole round, which I love after practicing putting all week Kenny B, JerryB, RichL85 and 11 others 14 Quote Stealth 2 Plus 9deg Kai' li Red Stealth 2 13deg Aldilla Rogue Silver Stealth 2 15deg Aldilla Rogue Silver JPX 921 Hot Metal 4-PW Nippon Modus 120s SM8 54 and 58deg Dynamic Gold Wedge Flex Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Titleist ProV1 Hoofer Stand Bag Stewart Q Follow Electric Caddie 300 PRO Rangefinder Official Nippon Regio B+ Driver Shaft Review Official Stewart Q Follow Review

Popular Post Syks7
40/44 84. Promising day that I couldn't fully get off the ground. Lots of things went right, I just couldn't quite score. The best part of my day was putting. 31 total putts with zero 3 putts. My distance control was on today even when I was short. I think the longest second putt I had all day was 18". I also didn't miss inside 11' (11,10,8,7,4) for my one putts. Also good is that I managed no doubles day. I just had some troubles off the tee and on approach that left me with some very long putts (7 over 35'). Hopefully tomorrow goes better. On another note I had a laugh at my own expense today at my change in perspective. At the beginning of summer I would have said 84 was a good day, but today I walked off 18 thinking that I missed a lot of opportunities and played pretty average/mediocre of the tee and on approach and wasn't particularly pleased with the score. Popular Post JerryB
The wise traveller Philip J Fry once said, "I don't regret this, but I both rue and lament it." This thought crossed my mind as Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights today. Owen managed to hit the same tree twice on hole two, neither of us had a hole better than bogey, and he stopped keeping score by the third hole. On a positive note my play from just off the green continues to be my strength as I came very close to holing out two times. On the downside I keep shooting up on my longer clubs and I'm struggling with the Cobra irons. Might go back to the Adams and play without a seven iron for a while. Shot +18 54. Significant because of getting past this month's affair with Rona, the loss of energy, quarantine isolation and the inactivity of limited quarters. First golf round was Friday playing 18 with a 60 and 54 and not a single par, still feeling I was in recovery mode. Saturday we moved son back to his college apartment on a hot day like the Queenstown Harbor weekend, had countless repetitions of climbing to the 3rd floor carrying 2 vehicle loads of his stuff kicked Rona to the curb. Played 9's on Monday 8.22 for 49 with sun showers at South Park GC and Tuesday 8.23 for 51 with this beauty that flew 130 yards over Cazenovia Creek to feet from the pin at my home course Cazenovia GC. Definitely feeing back to "normal" and regaining control with the club and distance with the swing. I'm glad you're feeling better and able to get back on the course. MaxEntropy
Last night was our final "official" league night - the championship and last place were determined (in our league, last place gets the honor of planning the next season's fall outing). That means half the teams had nothing to play for and we were just having fun. The fourth and fifth holes bit me pretty hard - I was +5 on those two holes and +3 on the remaining 7. The triple on 4 involved a plugged lie in the face of a bunker - I had to aim pretty far away from the flag to find an area of the lip I thought I could get over. I got it out first try, but just barely (or so I'm told - my eyes were closed due to the amount of sand flying). A chip and a 3-putt and the numbers add up fast. Ironically, I won long drive on that hole, so it took me 6 strokes to get down from ~130 in the fairway with no penalties . On 5, I was in another bunker and the sand in this one was pretty damp, so I decided to try to pick it clean. Of course, I skulled it across the green. Another chip and 2 putts for double. Those two holes kind of stung, but looking back at it, I was actually hitting the ball pretty well and am fairly happy with my game right now. It seems to happen like this every year - as fall approaches, I feel pretty good about my game, then put down the clubs through winter and I feel like I am starting all over in the spring. I really need to move somewhere I can play year round, or at least move to a place that has enough head room to swing in the garage or basement. The only other minor issue was short game. The greens were very soft due to all the rain we've had recently and my brain is still calibrated to spin/rollout for dry, fast greens, so too many chips were left too far away to reasonably expect a 1-putt. I also won one of the closest to the pin holes. A 9 iron right over the top of the flag on the 9th. The putt was on line but stopped about 1 revolution short on the birdie putt. EDIT: It just occurred to me I have played the same ball for somewhere north of 36 holes. I put this one in play the last time I was out with @DiscipleofPenick and have 4 league rounds on it. This HAS to be some kind of record for me. Pretty sure I just jinxed myself. 1 hour ago, MattF said: Everything was cold topped and I was lifting with no idea why it was happening. Popular Post Syks7
Mediocre day that I still managed to grind out a mid 80s score. 41/45 - 86 The front had its highlights, back was bogey city. My lag putting was still excellent, though I did leave myself one or two 4 footers to clean up. Unfortunately, I also missed two opportunities inside 5' to get up and down and had one 3 putt . The back 9, my game just went ice cold and I really struggled with tempo. I should be happy that I managed to grind out a +9 with the way my swing was. I think walking two rounds in two days in the 95+ heat did me in. Highlight of the day was a 5 iron almost eagle from 176 yards that a I flew to a tight pin, rolled up, hit the pin and stopped 8 inches from the hole. #1 handicap hole too. One of the best swings I've ever made and yes I did make the putt. Popular Post Syks7
Had a few meetings this morning then decided to play for a third day in a row. Better today. 41/40 81. Played reasonably well today. I was much better on approach and still mediocre off the tee. I very often today had to take my medicine and chip back onto the fairway when my tee shot left me no opportunity for a shot into the green. My putter and wedges were on fire today though. 28 putts including one 30 footer for birdie on 15 that got me back in the breaking 80 game. The birdie put me at 7 over starting 16 and I knew I just needed to par out to make it happen then I hit my tee shot. Great contact to right behind a lone tree...I took my medicine and chipped out to 110 where I promptly dug a trench for my third shot. . I collected myself, then hit the resulting 60 yard shot to 10 feet and converted a nervy putt for Bogey to put me at +8. I still had a chance though needing one birdie from two holes, one of which I birdie reasonably often. 17 is the +3 handicap hole it's straightaway, long, and often right into the teeth of the wind. I hit a reasonable tee shot that left me with 184 to the flag in what I thought was a 1 club headwind(should have gone up 2). I hit a great 4 iron to the front of the green but had 70 feet to lag to get close enough to convert for par. I managed to get pin high but left myself with 4 feet to cleanup for par. Managed to convert and left myself Still sitting at +8. I felt confident on 18 and hit a conservative and reasonable tee shot. The second shot is where I made a mistake. There are trees midway down the fairway on both sides. They are normally not in play for me, but today that happened to be right in the landing area for my 2H. So, I conservatively pulled my 3w thinking a nice easy swing would easily power past the trees.... Disaster. Drop kicked it right into the trees on the left. No clean shot at the green and 190 out. t. So I tried to pull off a low hero draw. Hoping to at least give myself a long birdie putt attempt. Solid contact with a decent amount of movement but not enough to get on the green. Pin high in the right bunker very close to the lip with 30 yards to the pin. I tried so hard to hole it out (damn near did it). Rolled about a foot right of the pin out to 15'. Wind kind of came out of sails at that point and I was a little sloppy setting up for the par putt. and brushed the edge but ran 6 feet past. Not going to lie, I was disappointed. But I was also pretty excited because I was sitting at 8 over after bogey on 14. I told myself that I was going to par out, almost strategized my way there, and only added a single stroke to that +8 over the next 4 holes. Most fun I've had playing in a while and I think I might have a good idea of how to strategize keeping myself that focused for future rounds. Popular Post DiscipleofPenick
Got out yesterday afternoon at my old home course for a solo round. Shot 36/40-76. I hit 13 greens and had 0 3 putts. Two birdies on the front as I did it on both par 3s. #2 was the shot of the round as I hit a 6i inside a foot. #8 was a 4i pin high and I made the 12 footer. The back 9 is much tougher, and I had two penalties which hurt a bit. I think some of what I was talking to @chisag about last week is starting to click as this was my best round in over a month. Also I picked something up from Tiger. He supposedly had 5 rules for scoring. -No double bogeys -No 3 putts -No bogeys on par 5s -No bogeys with a wedge (2nd shot) -No blown up & downs Based on that I had a few mistakes yesterday #1 (bogey with wedge), #12 (double), #15 (bogey par 5 penalty), #18 (bogey par 5) cnosil, Kenny B, CarlH and 10 others 13 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star

I do this quite regularly and it definitely helps to keep me in a round I might have otherwise given up on or been disappointed with. I've recently started trying to focus specifically on 3-holes at a time - from the first tee all the way to 18 green - and have seen some improvement with that as well. I find it especially useful during a difficult stretch of holes to help me temper expectations better. Sounds like you had a pretty good day. Keep it up! Popular Post edingc
Swing feels fantastic. Driver was fine on all but two holes, irons were great, short game wasn't bad. Had some of the best swings of the season this morning, but I couldn't putt at all. Six three-putts en route to 38 total putts. Just miserable as I couldn't get speed right all morning jumping from some heavily dewed greens, some with only light dew and others that were mowed already (the joys of morning golf!). One really bad hole (+5) where I slipped on my driver downswing and lost the ball under a pine tree well right and couldn't get back to the fairway. Otherwise, besides the score struggling to stay below 90, one of my best golf swing rounds all season? So bizarre. Popular Post MattWillGolf
Played the back 9 today n my home course. A much better result. I shot a 52. The driver was working really well as was my hybrid. Once again my chipping is giving me fits. And a bone head move on the first hole cost me a lost ball. I wanted my 7 iron but pulled my 4 iron and didn’t notice it until my shot sailed well over the green and into the woods. My putting as more suspect than usual. But overall I was pleased. mynerds, Vegan_Golfer_PNW, CarlH and 7 others 10 Quote CB-P226 Hoofer Cart Bag G400 Max 10.5° w/Ping Alta CB 0311 XF 3 wood 16° w/Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw Blue 0211 19° Hybrid w/Project X Even Flow Riptide Paradym X 6 - GW w/True Temper Elevate MPH Official Forum Test SM9 54°/12° D and 58°/12° D w/KBS Tour 110 ER11v 34” Evnroll ER11v Official Forum Test Shot Scope Pro LX+ Pro LX+ Official Forum Test MTB prime 3.5+
CarlH
Mediocre performance today. Ball striking and putting was off just enough. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
I haven't posted in a few weeks about how I've been playing recently. But before I get into that, as most of you know I am a dew sweeper. First one off in the morning and you can follow my tracks down the fairway and I'm usually right behind the greens mower and roller crew. I have perfect greens every round. Recently the last two rounds I played were afternoon rounds. What a difference seven hours make. Much more roll in the fairways which is a good thing. But the greens do have many more imperfections due to either careless repair or not repaired at all and the traps are more compact from the sun drying them out. Not to mention some lazy asses that don't rake the traps. Last week was a great round. Partially due to firmer fairways and having nothing more than a 9 iron into greens. I had three birdies and 1 bogey for a solid 69. Yesterday afternoon started off great as well. Lots of roll short irons in and I finished the front even par 1 bogey and 1 bird for a 36. Usually my back 9 score is better than the front. Started off the back 9 with a par on a tough hole. 413 yard par 4 all uphill and guarded by two large bunkers in the front. Then a perfect drive on 11 and 80 yards off the green. Right after I teed off on 11 the phone dinged with a work related email. Some bone head at the office messed up and the customer was complaining to me to rectify the situation. Immediately my mind was not in the game and I was pissed off. Double bogeyed 11, then par, bogey, bogey, par, par, bogey, par for a 40 on the back. I'm not sure when the last time I shot 76 (I know what you are thinking, poor Tom complaining about a 76) was, but what was more important was that I allowed work to get in my head instead of focusing on my round. Hey, but I didn't lose a ball during my fits of internal rage on the tee box and wanting to smash the ship out of the ball! Couldn't focus on the putting. Note to self, Leave the phone in the golf bag on mute or in the car. Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights today. I started out rough as per my usual custom going double double before getting to twelve which is a short par four. Meh drive followed by a wedge that came up just short of the fringe. Chipped to within a foot for a tap in par. On thirteen I had a decent drive and a horrible 7 iron. I hit my love wedge to the elevated green and it stopped in the fringe just beyond. Managed to chip in to save the par!! Fourteen is the only hole I haven't gotten par yet. After a wayward drive and a recovery out of the trees that rolled forever, I put my wedge to twelve feet and JUST missed the putt for a tap in bogey. (This par is coming soon, I can feel it!) After a poor drive on fifteen Owen decided he was going to fix my swing which lead to me going triple, bogey, triple, bogey the rest of the way. Randomly sunk a thirty foot putt to save triple on seventeen, lol. Finished with a +13 49. Putting is coming along and my short wedge game continues to prop me up. Driver isn't great but hasn't particularly killed me lately either. Irons, hybrids and woods are just abysmal though. Hoping to get some work on that soon. Popular Post Kenny B
I haven't played golf in 10 days. I spent the last two days on the range and practice green working on my swing from Monte's clinic in Seattle a few weeks ago. I wasn't going to play today but my wife and two of her ladies league friend needed a token male. Shotgun start at 8am since the course had a scramble tournament going off at 1pm. The bad news: shot 39/42 = 81. Not bad until you find out that the 39 (+2) included a triple bogey and three birdies. The 42 (+7) included a triple bogey and one birdie. The good news: I was very pleased with my ball striking today. I only missed the fairway off the tee twice (#1 and #3; bogey and triple)) and a couple of drives were much further than normal. The work on a bigger backswing seems to be working. Also, I hit nine (9) GIR... count 'em... 9 greens!! Usual for me is 4-5 GIR. I only had two "not great" iron shots with my Macgregors; both shots were the correct distance but pushed right. No fat shots today!! Three of my birdies came on par 5's; one on a par 4 and all birdies were putts between 10-25 feet. It was one of those "see the line and just hit it" putting days. Woulda, shoulda, coulda been another shoot my age round except for those nasty triples. sirchunksalot, JerryB, GolfSpy_SHARK and 9 others 12 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
