Popular Post Sluggo42
It ‘‘twas a tale of two 9’s” first nine was a +7, 42, couldn’t buy a par, and then the second 9 was a -1, 35… with many near misses on birdy putts. For a total of 77, so turned that frown upside down, haha moral of todays round is to understand that it’s just a game, and not let emotions ruin a nice outing with your mates. Your game can return in a mere second, even tho it might not. But either way, just let it roll off your back. JerryB
Owen and I played the back nine again at River Heights today. We were going to play the front but it was backing up already so we jumped to the back. Good thing we did; I finally got my par on 14! I've now gotten par on every hole on this course this year. We played pretty okay today. Owen was solid and got the only birdie of the day. LOL, he had the drive of the day where he swung out of his shoes and barely grazed the top of the ball, sending it inches down the fairway. I was happy with my play but I was inconsistent. Putter came and went, and my irons were good. I had more chunks today than I've had in a while with both irons and wedges. Driver was a little erratic which left me scrambling on second shots. Trying to play smart backfired when I kept screwing up punches and chips back to the fairway. Owen went +9 45 and I had +12 48. A couple of trees had leaves that were starting to turn; season is drawing to a close. Popular Post Ben_Howell34
Played Greystone CC, Founders Course today for the first time. They host the Regions Tradition annually, which is one of the majors on the champions tour. It was in great shape and lots of fun. I played ok, shot 87. Had 2 birdies though, one on the toughest hole on the course, made a 40 footer. Other birdie was 18, which is always fun to end on a birdie. Driving today was my downfall, only hit 4 fairways and 4 GIR, most of that due to poor drives. However, I putted great, having only 26 putts on the day. Popular Post CarlH
Continuing to have some issues with my swing and ball striking of late. 44 on the front, but turned it around somewhat on the back with a 39. I’ve been having a little trouble with my iron play lately, and what I did was shorten everything up, and make sure I’m not swaying on the backswing by posting on the right instep on my backswing. That seemed to really pull everything back together. I often do the same with the instep of the trail foot and that's typically my go-to. I think it's more of the through swing right now...coming out of the shot a hair and not catching the ball cleanly. Popular Post TR1PTIK
Played a really fun scramble today and was really solid almost the whole way through. Started on the long drive hole and poked one down the fairway somewhere around 300 - sadly, it didn't hold up - and smoothed an 8-iron to hole high to get us off and running with an eagle. Fatigue got to me late in the round though as the free breakfast was mostly sugar, they didn't have any water coolers out, and I partook in a few beverages which I normally don't do when I play golf. Was able to bounce back on the final hole where we took both my drive and my approach to snag a final birdie. Our team wound up being -12 which was pretty solid but not nearly enough to win anything. We had a GROSS number of putts lip out including a couple of my own from ~30+ feet - the lag putting was fire today! One final highlight was a near ace on the par 3 10th. I did not make great contact but hit a nice high knuckler that bounded onto the green and kept going. Finished about 1-1.5 feet past the hole and I still didn't win CTP lol. fixyurdivot, cksurfdude, MaxEntropy and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: ST190 9.5* Fujikura Atmos Blue 5S Fairway Wood: ST190 15* Fujikura Atmos Blue 6S Hybrid: CLK 17* Fujikura Speeder EVO HB Irons: J40 CB (3-PW) Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 Wedges: Milled Grind 2 54* & 58* Dynamic Gold S200 Putter: Tri-Hot 5k Two 34" Bag: Players 5 Stand Bag Ball: Maxfli Tour
Popular Post Alf. S
Bit of a mixed week for me, been out and about playing a few of the local clubs. Hitting the ball well enough but putting not great, in my defence the green keepers are starting their autumn maintenance so the greens are getting hollow tined and sanded. Best round was Stirling GC which was the best condition. Couple of stupid mistakes and a shank off 10 cost me a really good round. Bad driver on 3 put me in trouble hacked out then hit 2 heavy shots for a 6. At 9 absolutely striped my drive, pulled my approach slightly to pitch on the banked green and off into heavy rough for a double. Popular Post Kenny B
The Tale of Two Nines for me today. Still not driving the ball like I should, but scrambling for pars... until the back nine; then I didn't scramble very well. Shot a 38 (+1) on the front nine, then a 41 (+6) on the back nine for a 79. Two doubles killed me, but the greens are very slow and not rolling very well after being punched last Monday. Popular Post RollingGreens
I picked a bad day to have a bad day. Member member fall tournament. 90% of handicap and I literally puke up and down throughout the day. I had a 46 on the front where everything went wrong. 4 3putts. Missed opportunities left and right even when playing smart. I couldn’t nestle a putt to save my life. Played better on the back for a few holes and then it started all Over again 52 on the back. I couldn’t catch a break. The other guys we were playing could do no wrong. Bad shots off the tee and they’d stick it to 2 feet. I could have probably played better with half my bag then using everything. Needless to say we’re the earliest tee time tomorrow and playing solo. Stableford format and we’re only 12 back so we have a chance but I basically took me and my partner out of everything with that performance cksurfdude, MattF, TR1PTIK and 11 others 5 9 Quote Stealth 2 Plus 9deg Kai' li Red Stealth 2 13deg Aldilla Rogue Silver Stealth 2 15deg Aldilla Rogue Silver JPX 921 Hot Metal 4-PW Nippon Modus 120s SM8 54 and 58deg Dynamic Gold Wedge Flex Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Titleist ProV1 Hoofer Stand Bag Stewart Q Follow Electric Caddie 300 PRO Rangefinder Official Nippon Regio B+ Driver Shaft Review Official Stewart Q Follow Review
Popular Post sirchunksalot
I played 18 today with a couple of guys from work at a new to me course, Brainerd Golf Club. It's an old course, designed in the 1920's by Donald Ross. I really enjoyed the layout and had fun putting on some really undulating, fast, and tricky greens. There were a couple of unfortunate things about the day, though. First I was looking over photos from the course this morning and saw this: We had a 12:56 tee time and I couldn't bring Wall-E, my Stewart Q Follow out to play which I really think hurt my mental game. The other thing that went wrong was my game. I shot 66-57 123. Driver was decent, I did get myself into some bad spots where I had to punch or pitch out to the fairway, but other times it was pretty good. I couldn't hit irons early to to save my life. I shanked so many balls it wasn't funny. I came close to walking off the course on the 4th hole. I finally started figuring out I was hitting at the ball and not through it and did see better results later. My wedges were off distance wise and directionally. The only consistent part of my game was putting. I made several great lag putts and sank one from 27 feet. Hopefully I can take what I discovered into my next round. I bogeyed the 18th after pulling a drive, having to hit a wedge back into the fairway, hammered a 3 wood pin high left, chopped up and 2 putted. cnosil, JerryB, Rickp and 13 others 15
Popular Post MattF
OK, where do I start? Absolute bucket list venue. The format was singles at the Stadium course the first day and 2 man shamble at Dye's Valley the second day. Played the blues at the Stadium (they are the tips because you cannot play The Players tees, that's tournament only) 6670 (played longer) 73.9 148. Played the blues at Dye's Valley 6502 72.1 131. As a team we got our arse handed to us, which was not a surprise considering it was low cap, 5 and below, versus mid cap, 8+. I put up a bit of a fight on the front 9 being 3 up at one stage, then collapsed on the back. I ended up shooting 54/59 113 and am actually happy about it. The wind was brutal both days with pretty much all but 2 holes hitting into the wind. #17 we played from The Players tees. It was 137 to the middle, playing 155 pin in the back. I rinsed 2 (pushed just right of the green pin high) and ended taking a 7. They give you a metal bag tag that's a replica of #17 and after your round you can have them engrave what you shot on the hole, I obviously have 7 on mine. Popular Post Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Played a round with @JFish350 at eastmoreland with two other friends. Was a fun time. 55/45 Today for me proved the importance of driver. I think my shaft is compromised. On the range it was kind of making a graphite .scratching noise. Hit my first driver on two and shanked it as I couldn’t trust it. Then pulled it out for another hole and you can hear it doing that on practice swings. Got benched the rest of the day. Need to find time to take it to my club builder so he can see what is going on and hope he can get me a replacement. So 4w it was and I can tell you I am way better off with a driver in my hands that a FW from the tee all the time. Part of it was mental since I had a beautiful drive with my 4w on the hole before I benched the driver and then after that my baby draw on 4w was gone. This is also reflected in my SG stats. On the bright side my putting and short game were pretty good today. On 1 I nearly holed a 57’ putt for birdie (hit it to one foot, uphill and right to left break). Had 1 par of the front and 1 par and a birdie on the back. Would have had a better day had I not had a three putt and a four putt and had a couple lip outs drop. Jeremy is such a treat to play with. He hits these towering baby draws and fades that were impressive and I look forward to more rounds with him and other spies. Shot of the week is the closest I've been to a hole-in-one all season - on a par four, nonetheless! No. 5, 306-yarder. Bonus material: we got to see nature at its finest as a coyote nabbed a squirrel about 100 yards ahead of us. It was a real sight to see. Yes it was a great day and great to finally meet a fellow spy. I look forward to more with you. Colin and Dave were awesome good dudes to play with although a sandbagging may have been in the mix with a 5 minute arrival before tee time and not playing to much lately. I'm kidding of course, Dave is a pretty good player and fun to watch. Your driver was sketch for sure, I could hear 40' away clicking almost like the settings are off and its trying to set itself. Myself, I didn't play awful and I had some serious nerves on the first tee. Just closed my eyes and actually hit the ball on its intended path. Best drive of the day for me with my 4 wood. 3 pars and a chip in bird on the front for a 45 with taking an 8 on the par 5 9th. I was 46 yards from the pin in 2, skulled my chip, flubbed the forth next to a tree chipped out to the fringe. 1 par, an 8 a couple doubles for a 48 on the back side. I didn't get to see the squirrel chase as I was in the trees looking for my ball in the opposite fairway. The guys on that hole saw the chase as well. Popular Post MaxEntropy
I had a really, really fun time at our league's outing yesterday. It was a place I'd never played, but I really liked the course. We played a lone wolf scramble and I had the five lowest handicap holes assigned to me since I was the lowest HC in our 4-some. I played those 5 at +2 with a par, birdie, and three bogies. I beat or tied the three scramble guys on all of them, which I consider a plus (from a personal perspective). Driver continued to be a strength most of the day - three questionable shots, only one of which really hurt (into penalty area, but still ended up with a bogey thanks to it being a shortish par 5). Irons were also pretty good, certainly much better than they were Tuesday. Chipping was about as good as it gets for me. All told, our lone wolf score was a 90, which was pretty much right on the weighted average HC of our group. We did leave a lot of meat on the bone for our scramble score of +2, 73. We just could not make a putt and struggled to hit greens on the par 3's. The other three guys are a fair amount shorter than me, so not having my potential help on a couple 400+ yard par 4's definitely hurt the scramble score too. I had a par on the 3rd hole at 420 yards. They hit D, 3W and were still 30 yards short of the green. I really enjoyed the format, which I've never done before. It seemed to make it more interesting and everyone had to contribute regardless of HC. I also like the added stress on the holes we had to go it alone - you want to do well not just for yourself, but for the team, too. cksurfdude, Kenny B, GolfSpy_SHARK and 11 others 14 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 SW: RTX Zipcore Black Satin 54* LW: TAIII Black 58* Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Testing Complete, Final Review Posted: Sub70 TAIII Forged Wedges
Popular Post cjeffs12
I had a heck of a round going today until @crbishop reminded me that I was 1 over thru 8 lol (my excuse ). I have really been grinding on my driver and 150 and in clubs on the range the last few weeks, and today it really clicked. I hit 14/18 greens in reg!!! That is my lifetime best!! My driving stats don’t look good but they were smashed and just in the fringe or barely in the rough. My putter was just ice cold, I burned the edge what seemed like 6 times for what could have been birdies. I think with some more work I’ll have some more confidence in my driver, it feels so good but just can’t get it to fade. I know this week I’ll continue my driver and 150 and in practice, but now I don’t need as much, and I’ll be doing a lot of lag putting and some more chipping. Also, I played the last 4 holes with the Pro V1x. I have started to notice with the dew I have been getting more fliers with the Chrome Soft X LS, and just struggling getting it to check on the greens when there is any moisture. Very pleased and optimistic about my next round. Popular Post DiscipleofPenick
Got out yesterday afternoon in gorgeous weather @ Sleepy Hollow in Cleveland. The greens were punched, but it was only $26 to walk 18 (normally $42) The greens were slow and shaggy but not really bumpy. The rest of the course was immaculate as always. I got paired up with 2 brothers & dad on the front 9, and we were told we were following an outing. (who holds an outing knowing there's punched greens is beyond me. But from what I saw, these people weren't golfers anyway) It took 2:20 to play the front, which isn't awful considering everything. But the three dropped and I was left alone. But after it took over 20 min at the turn to get a gatorade, I walked out and saw 5 groups on #10. i walked back down to the first tee, joined another group of walkers and got around the front a second time in just about 2 hours. The second time around I eagled #1! It's a downhill, usually downwind 476 yard par 5. I hit driver-9 iron to 6 feet. I also tacked on a long birdie putt at the par 3 6th. Overall it was a good day and didn't really make any mistakes on the course, but hard to judge anything with punched greens. Hopefully this is my last round without Arccos, so I can start fresh next weekend and really start improving. Popular Post dlow206
Had the best non-driver ballstriking day of my life. Yet my score was not great, 94. So what went wrong: Irons flying father than I think they will, due to some swing changes. It wasn't just that the balls rolled to the back of the green, the ball carried to the back of the green or farther. One shot, had 117 to the flag, played for non-optimal strike and went PW. Ball carried 25 yard farther than it should, over the green, landed somewhere in the woods, probably rolled into the street. Had a couple of holes of poor drives, swung too hard on one and hit it in the hazard. This was the swing for the fences type of swing. After the first par 3 on my course, hit GIR on every par 3, to 15 feet or less, including an almost hole in one. On these holes, I didn't club up and hit them well. @chisag- i know you said to play for non-optimal contact, but i think my distances have actually changed. Yup always play to non-optimal contact unless your yardage changes due to new clubs or a swing change or you just start hitting the ball consistently longer. Popular Post PMookie
79 (39/40) Had an absolutely horrible stretch to start the back 9, then almost birdied four out of the last 5, converting just one! Three lip-outs!!! Ugh. Made an adjustment with my left hand with driver on 14, began to hit each fairway and smoke each drive. Crazy. One LITTLE adjustment ended my round on a great note. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Nothing special to report today. Three bogies and three birdies for even par. I bogied two of the par threes. These have been my downfall lately. I'll never getting out of the Acless thread this way! Popular Post Kenny B
Cool, cloudy day today, and I played with my wife and her brother from Seattle. I had probably my best driving day in the past two weeks. Tempo baby!! Shot 76 for another round in the 70's (4 straight!!)... a very steady round of +2 on each side. Had 11/18 GIR... my best ever. Sure beats the 4-5 GIR I averaged last year. sirchunksalot, Vegan_Golfer_PNW, GolfSpy_SHARK and 12 others 10 5 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
