Kenny B
6 hours ago, sirchunksalot said: You know, my wife says the same thing and she's pretty smart...I guess I should listen. Yesterday I was having a fun and relaxing time until the 7th. I popped up a drive into high grass, hit a nice recovery 50 yards short of the green, then pull topped one 30 degrees left, hit a sign and it proceeded to hit a tree. Then I got to the 8th and they had all the tee markers together way back with the line of high grass blocking out all but the smallest view of the green. It just didn't set right to my eyes and I pulled a low screamer into the grass. Hit a bad recovery and it went downhill from there. My wife also tells me I shouldn't keep score for a while and that I'll pressing too hard to do well. That it gets into my head to perform well. Funny thing is, the 9th fairway is next to the range and littered with balls. While looking for my drive I took some time to whack some back to the range and hit toward the 200 yard marker. Hit some pretty good shots then shanked my ball into a pond. It'll get there, I'm just messed up right now from paralysis by analysis. Your wife is smart... you should listen to her. So I guess that makes me smart by default. Thanks!! My wife actually says that sometimes I "act smart". I also agree on the not keeping score suggestion. I do that frequently when I'm playing alone. I play "golf shot". There are many ways to play a shot; I pick one that I believe is the best option. Hit it, then evaluate if I hit it the way I wanted or not. If I did, then go play the result. If not, I may either try again or pick another option for the shot. I enjoy the challenge of making the shot like I envisioned it... actually more than the score. My wife keeps our scores when we play together so I don't even worry about it then. Ugly things can happen and BAD decisions when chasing a number…..I know. RELAX…..and don’t overthink it. I agree, I think I've just gotten into a bad mental place over the last year or so over how I'm playing. I was actually really relaxed playing yesterday while averaging double bogey until seeing the tee on 8. That just messed with me and I spiraled badly. I fell into the trap of asking why instead of how. The mental part of this game can be brutal. Popular Post Kenny B
I didn't get to play today ... except for the Men's Club going off #10 and the Ladies Club Championship going off #1, there was no other play. The range was open until noon, then the course has festivities in the afternoon for their 25th Anniversary party. The putting green has been transformed! Only thing missing is the clown's mouth!!! On a bright side... my wife is in 2nd place, both gross and net, after the first day of the Ladies Club Championship. Hopefully, she can come through tomorrow and add that title to the Match Play Championship last week. Popular Post Syks7
I'll call day 1 of the club championship what might have been. 39/46 85. I started by putting my tee shot in the water for double then managed to pull it back and only got ve away a single stroke over the remaining 9. I was 4 over after 13, knew I was going to break 80, and then I imploded. Triple.... I did my best to recover but I never got my tempo resettled. Over the next 4 holes I gave away 6 more strokes. . Sloppy. That said. My game has progressed to the point that I can melt down and still shoot an 85, so not all bad. I'm also still solidly midpack in the A flight (9.5-11.5 handicap) so there's still opportunity to win tomorrow. The 3/ 11s that broke 80 today probably aren't going to do it tomorrow and there's only 3 others ahead of me. Hook DeLoft
First hole on my home course is a par 5. Excellent drive. Excellent 5 wood. 56 yards to the pin. Tried to get cute and left the shot about 35 feet short. FOUR putted for a double and it shook me so bad that I went on to shoot a 48 on the front 9. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
The Hole that made me laugh. Normally It's an uneventful round of golf with mostly pars, a birdie or two or a bogie or two. For today's round all but one hole followed the norm. I was even par going into hole 13 with one bird and one bogey. I will typically hit driver over the trees (dogleg left layout) and be 100 yards in front of the green. I'm usually looking, at par or birdie potential. Well not today. A freaking 9 on a par 4. Yup, you read it correctly a 9. Tee shot did not get up high enough hit a branch and ricocheted dead left onto the 9th tee box (1). I had a window to punch the ball back to the fairway. Figured I would punch it with a draw to get further down the fairway. It drew to soon and hit a tree trunk on the left of my opening (2). The ball went dead right about another 20 yards. Still left with other punch out. So I got a little peeved. Did not take my time and shanked the bugger(3). But at least I got in the fairway. Now I'm 160 out. Took my time, set up and hit what I thought was a perfect 7 iron (4). The ball flew true cleared the bunker and hits the rake that someone left on top. It shoots straight back and rolls into the bunker. The bunker was like cement and my wedge bounced off the sand sending the ball across and off the back of the green (5). Then I chip on (6) but it was down hill so it rolled out. I had a 15 footer backup to the pin. I went past by about a foot (7). I went to tap it in and it spun around the hole and back out (8). Tap in for a 9. All I could do was laugh. Next hole, par. Now I'm located right across from the tee box back on 13. Not one to let a hole beat me down. I went over and played the hole again. Seemed so much easier the second time around. Par. Then I made one more bird and the rest pars to close out the round. At least I kept the round in the 70's with a 79. Popular Post RollingGreens
I decided to take my new swing to the course today in a 20mph headwind. After topping 2 shots to start out and finishing with a 7 on the first hole, I got in a heated. My driver came out hot and the ball looked to be getting through the wind nicely. I finished 3 over the next 8 holes. The back was up and down. Good shots and bad. Some shots hit really thin or line drive wedges which wasn’t something I had seen before, thus the high and lows with swing changes. Finished with a 42 on the back, I had 2 holes where I doubled because I slapped it around a bit. All in all pleased with an 83 for using my new swing and also trying out my Scotty today to see if I could get any traction with it vs my spider. Popular Post yungkory
+6 on the front and +1 on the back for a 79. Pretty pleased with that considering I don't play more than once a month (excluding two scrambles I played in) and the fact that it was my first real round with the new irons and newly-shafted wedges (shout-out to @dlow206 and Bort golf again!). Didn't hit driver well, but the irons were pretty solid except for a huge pull on the 3rd. 130y par3 and I yanked my 9i probably 160 left OB and made a triple. Made a double on a par 4 that punishes you for going right, which I of course did. Had to punch out and couldn't hit the green from where I punched it to. GolfSpy TCB
Played in my standard Sunday Game, and took the DF 2.1 out for a spin... It took me a little while to get used to the roll speed - and our greens went from being dew covered to dry and fast during the course of my round (got up to 95 by the time I was walking off 18). But that thing is MONEY inside of 8 feet. I drove the ball really well - hit 14/14 fairways and 13 greens in reg. 15 pars and 3 bogeys for a 75. Popular Post MaxEntropy
On Saturday I played in another outing for a league I sub in periodically - they made it a two-man scramble where the B flight picked their A partner out of a hat. The course was about an hour away and was a great course. Very hilly and picturesque. I had a great time. I played pretty steady all day - driver was once again pretty good and irons were very solid most of the day (just some challenges with direction). Short game was pretty lame and putting was tricky with very sloped greens. We ended up middle of the pack - winner was +2, we were +6. My partner played really well on the front, but kind of fell apart on the back. I'm not sure what his handicap is, but I'd guess he's about a 12 for 9 where I'm a 6 for 9. We also ended up winning a skin with a birdie on a par 3 (I also won closest to the pin with the tee shot). Only 2 skins were won on the day so we more than made our money back. TR1PTIK
I actually got to play twice this past week! First round was Thursday at Shady Valley Country Club which I had never played before. I was asked to join a foursome with a couple pastors from my church for an outing with one of our mission partners. We figured we'd be scrambling, but it ended up being a really low-key event and there were only 7 of us who stayed to play golf after lunch, so we all played our own ball and just slapped it around for fun. I was pretty sore from the gym and didn't do any sort of warm-up other than putting so expectations were low. However, I shot an 88 with 38 putts (didn't get down to read most of them because my quads were killing me lol). Not too bad for not caring at all on a course I've never seen before. Second round was at Whitestone Golf Club on Friday with my regular golf buddy Kaleb. I was less sore than Thursday but still feeling a few things. However, I was able to hit the range before and that all seemed to go pretty well. Everything was off to a great start until my first putt on the fastest greens I've played all season. They had to be rolling close to a 13 as you barely had to tap the ball on most putts. I'd spend the round back and forth between good play and not-so-good and finish with an 84. This surprised me as I felt like I was hitting the ball much better the day before but apparently my bad wasn't as terrible as I thought. After those rounds, I decided to look at my recent scores and I haven't shot outside of the 80's since July!!! My last 6 recorded rounds are 87, 83, 83, 87, 88, 84! Even better, my index hasn't been any higher than 10.0 for that same period! ejgaudette
Got out work a round this Saturday morning and the course to myself, lets just skip the fact that it was 40 degrees with 10 to 15 mph winds making it a bit chilly. Have been working on the driver swing, keeping my hands low after watching a TXG video talking about delivering the club with ulnar deviation which unless you set up like Bryson or how I used to with the arms basically fully extended this does not work. I have been hitting the ball very straight since, some pulls of pushes but very little curve on the ball also with irons. With the wind I still managed to hit 12 of 18 greens, but did not have the short game or putting working as I have not played much lately. Only got up and down 1 time and missed a number of mid-range birdie attempts. Shot a 76 (+5) which has dropped my index to 6.0 which is the lowest I have ever had. I played a best ball against myself from the middle tees at my old home course on the back 9. I played an aggressive vs. conservative style. It's a tighter 9 holes, with lots of elevation changes, so usually I only hit driver on 3-4 holes. So ripping driver on all of them was different. With the conservative play I never hit more than a 4i off any tee. Conservative DoP was 2up on 16th tee, but Aggresive DoP was able to win 17 & 18 to even the match. Including a birdie on 18! Though I wasn't keeping track of score, I think Conservative won by 3-4 shots even though the match was a draw. I'm going to do this experiment again, whenever I play 9 holes. Popular Post Syks7
Day 2 was disappointing, but not because of bad play. Tough pin positions and being a touch off speed wise made for a tough putting day. 43/44 87. I just didn't have my best stuff today and made a few mental errors (9 iron for 6 iron once ), two doubles, and 3 3-putt bogeys. Missed some short nervy ones with a ton of break. That said, I had a par putt on 16/18 holes (only converting 5). I would be mad about that but for the fact that I was averaging 20' to get up and down. Not going to hole a lot from that distance. I was either slightly offline or just a little too quick or slow. (Lots of lipouts). I still finished 5th in the flight and 20th overall for gross. Which isn't too bad. I also take some solace in that as frustrated as I was, I wasn't as frustrated as the two 1.3 indexes that finished below me in gross. Solid outing for my first two day tournament. Could have been better but at least I was consistent in being 'average' 85/87 172 stroke gross. cksurfdude, edingc, MaxEntropy and 8 others 11 Quote Driver 0811XT -- Tensei CK Orange 60 Woods 0211 3W -- Tensei AV Raw Blue Hybrids 0317X 2&4 -- Tensei AV Raw Blue Irons ZX7 4/AW -- C-Taper Lite 110 Wedges RTX Zipcore 56 Mid @55° -- TT DG Spinner Putter DF2.1 or Link.1 -- Accra Ball Zstar Diamond
Popular Post Ben_Howell34
Played Friday at Ballantrae. Had a rough front 9 46 but made up for it somewhat with a great 39 on the back for an 85. One birdie, on the shorter par 5 18th. A crisp 71* and beautiful day. Starting to hit my drives well, had a couple I pulled but other than that I hit a few over 290 so I’m happy with that. Excited to get my Arccos installed for my upcoming rounds. sirchunksalot, ejgaudette, JerryB and 11 others 14 Quote Radspeed Driver 10.5* Radspeed 3W 14.5* Stealth 4H 22* JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro 4i-PW RTX Zipcore Wedge 52* Mid Bounce RTX Zipcore Wedge 56* Mid Bounce Kirkland Signature KS1 Putter
Popular Post ahelix
Shot 87 (15 HCP) so it was a good day. 45 on the front and 42 on the back. Got one birdie! First time I've: Played the same ball for 18 holes Had no penalty strokes And avoided triple bogey or worse Struggled with my shot off the tee and too many 3-putts (6, total of 40 putts). I'm in the middle of a swing change so wasn't sweating my score much. I tend to shut the club face on the takeaway, and then not release the club to make the matchup work. Getting lessons to fix that but it's been VERY tough to fix. Just grinding a lot of 9 to 3 practice (half) practice swings focusing on starting the ball on line. cksurfdude, Kenny B, sirchunksalot and 9 others 11 1 Quote Driver: TaylorMade SIM Max 10.5 5w: TaylorMade SIM Max - 18 3H: Ping G425 - at 20.5 Irons: Ping G425 (5i-GW) Wedges: Ping Glide 3.0 (52, 56, 60) Putter: Odyssey 2-ball ten tour lined S Ball: Titleist Pro V1 Tracking: Arccos
Popular Post Sluggo42
Came crashing back to earth today, but still a 75, and from my normal black/blue tees. I did the math and playing from the whites, it averages 33.3 yds less per hole, so duh, one will shoot lower- played the rogue max D again, and decided it’s not really any longer than my mavrik sun zero- but it’s in the middle more… ahelix, Syks7, MattF and 10 others 13 Quote TSr2 on tensi blue stiff Speedzone 3-wood on Tensi blue S Epic Max 5 and 7 woods on HZRDUS Reg flex Paradym 9 wood on HZRDUS reg flex P770 / P790 combo set on Ventus R-6 shafts 6-AW T22 Denim Copper 54°, 58° on Kinetic X Trajectory ER3 or, E.A.S. #4 (“Fang” or “Adele”) ProV1x, or, Maxfli Tour X .Org 14 cart bag Adidas Tour 360 , or Sketcher shoes

Hopefully, she can come through tomorrow and add that title to the Match Play Championship last week. Well, my wife took a triple on the par 3 #3 hole playing 119y yesterday because she had a lost ball. Her shot landed short right of the green, missed the big trap, but after all three of them looked and looked, they couldn't find the ball. Must have plugged. She was very upset and texted me that it was a struggle to not give up; she thought she lost it all. She ended up losing low gross by one shot, but she won low net over the same lady by one shot. Pretty good year for her!! EDIT: Added photo... My wife on the right. Popular Post Shapotomous
Got to play at Compass Pointe today using the foursome CTP prize from the MD golf outing....Thanks @Golfspy_CG2! The foursome was SWMBO, one of her cohorts from the ladies assoc, playing a better ball match against myself & @MDGolfHacker. And we got our arse's kicked! I'm very sorry partner that I played so horribly today. I completely lost the ability to hit a driver for most of the round and my iron yardages were way off too. I wish I could bottle the extra 10 yards my irons seemed to be flying today for future use. I ended up with the worst score I've had in two years. If the idea is to ham and egg it around the course, mdgolfhacker said it best that we were another breakfast food...burnt toast. Even though my golf was turrible, the company was very good and I got to say hi to golfspy_cg2 afterward too. As I entered the inner sanctum of Rob's golf equipment emporium I swear I could hear angels singing the hallelujah chorus. Somehow I managed to not buy any of his castoffs. The best thing that came out of today was SWMBO saw the stash of golf bling the Rob has. So I can deflect any criticism about my future purchases by simply saying at least I don't have as much stuff as Rob!!
