Putting is interesting. I close one eye while getting the line. But have both open tskingy the stroke. I putted decently today . But Tuesday in a scramble I putted very well. Popular Post GolfSpy TCB
Traveled away from my home course today to play Memorial Park Golf Course. It was all of about 15 miles from my house (but in Houston, at the time I was driving to the course... that is a 45 minute drive ). Unfamiliar course and my swing was a little off today, not to mention trying to figure out the greens at a tour quality course.... Didn't score too well. Pars and too many bogeys for an 83. After bogeying the first 5 holes, I did go on a par stretch to finish out the front nine to salvage a 41. The hardest part to deal with was the rough just off the fairway... not only did the ball sink to the bottom to the point that you almost had to step on it to see it... but getting a decent shot out of those lies was challenging. The course was in the process of setting up all the grandstands for the upcoming Houston Open, and we were checking out the championship tees (as we walked past them to the Whites haha). What a different course it becomes from some of those back tees. I have MAD respect for the tour players. This course has hosted some of the greatest golfers of all time - so of course, I have to add a pic of my spirit golfer: Arnold Palmer, on the 9th hole at the 1961 Houston Open at Memorial Park. Best shot of my day came on this hole, directly following possibly the worst shot I hit all year! Par 3 143 yards, Creek in front of the green... I top/blade sliced my shot short of the creek, luckily the rough ate it up before it rolled into the water. I had 55 yards left to the pin out of gnarly bermuda. I hit a punch gap wedge that hit on the front of the green and rolled up to 2 inches. Tapped in for par with my wedge. Arnie was looking over me on that hole. It was a fun day today... tomorrow... back to work on my ailing swing MattF, sirchunksalot, ejgaudette and 9 others 10 2 Quote Titleist TSR3 9* (A2 setting) Driver - Graphite Design Tour AD UB-5 R1 Titleist TSR2+ 3 Wood - Graphite Design Tour AD UB-5 R1 Srixon ZX 5W Callaway Paradym 4-PW Titleist Vokey SM9 50-08, 54-10 & 58-08 Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2.5 2023 Titleist ProV1
CarlH
Played okay, but had 2 bad holes that cost me....hit my drive OB on #2 for a double and then on 18, I hit a 9 iron out of the thick rough that went the distance, but hooked to the left of the green and settled on hard pan with an exposed root about 4 inches behind the ball. Had to bring the club steep up and steep down....results were not good and sent the ball sailing over the green and ended up with another double to card an 82 for the day. Bad news is that the 18th hole was pressed and ended up loosing the bet and the press (partner game and my partner failed to make his birdie putt to tie the opponents birdie) JerryB, cksurfdude, Kenny B and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. Popular Post Alf. S
A real mixed week for me, it was the Finals of the Golf in Scotland regular and Champions tours. Not being in with a chance to win thru my scoring in the regular events my only chance to get to Turkey in March was to get a wildcard by posting a winning score over the weekend. Sweeps and 2s on Saturday with a round of what might have been, hitting the ball well but couldn't get up and down with 3 birdies and 3 should have been birdies ended up with an 82 net 74 It was to Castle Stuart on Sunday with wind forecast of gusts up to 40mph from the west with 41 points to beat (from better conditions on Friday) playing off the whites, my expectations were low. Had real problems with the bunkers, just couldn't get out of them and was in 6 resulting in 0 points. After struggling to 14 points on the way out, the constant fighting with the conditions took its toll both physically and mentally. Positives didn't lose a ball, fantastic birdie on the 6th 506yds into the wind (Dr, 3w, 3w, putt), broke 100 (just) and the Piri Piri chicken was good. Really beat up after the round and was contemplating pulling out the Champions Final at Dundonald Links on Wednesday. Played a bounce game at my home course on Tuesday and hit a 79 net 70 with a couple of stupid doubles which built my confidence. Dundonald was in good condition with a slight breeze, with 37 points leading felt I had a chance and with 15 points after 7 holes things were going well. Then I got on the bogey trail, missing greens, 3 putting, putting pressure on to play impossible shots chasing a score ended up with 30 points. Then to Thursday back to my regular game with the guys and had a really nice game to shoot a 74 net 65. with a triple bogey 8 at the 12th. Remember my bunker trouble at Castle Stuart. well I had a practise at Dundonald opening up my stance and cutting thru the sand and under the ball and this worked at Dundonald with bunkers that had sand in them. At West Lothian with very little sand your wedge bounces, 3 to get out of the bunker was the root cause of the 8. Sluggo42
It was a day of mixed results, but still eeked out a decent score. It’s like every time I took a step forward, the next was backwards. First hole a was double sandy par, next hole was a 3’ missed birdie putt. 3rd hole was a land mine green that knocked me and my buddies par putts off kilter. And so the day went… The main point is thank goodness for birdies! Without them, this day would have been dismal. Made long putts to save pars, and missed short putts for birdies. luckily gamed 3 birds. good news is the new grip, I’ll call it “Hansons Hybrid”, still performed well. CarlH
Despite a double on #2, I played decent through 11 at 3 over....and then the wheels fell off. Started by inadvertently grabbing the wrong iron for my tee shot on the par 3 and spiraled through the 17th hole without a par. Did par 18 to limp in with an 83. Greens were super fast and the greenskeeper was diabolical with his pin placements, giving us slippery putts all day long. Somehow, I managed to not 3 putt any green...so I got that going for me. I tend to overreact to a round I’m not happy with, and in this case it wasn’t even that so much. I’ve been playing pretty well actually, but just haven’t been able to put 18 good holes together and my last couple of scores reflected that. Too many lazy swings at the wrong time, and it seemed like every one of them ended up in a bad spot, which just compounded my frustration. I sympathize with @CarlH when I read a lot of his posts. Like me, he’s prone to one or two of those infuriating doubles (or sometimes worse in my case) that can ruin an otherwise very good round. The good(?) news this time was me making the same mistake. If it’s only one miss, and not a bunch of different ones, I can usually fix it, and that was the case this time. I’ve been playing a lot more golf lately than I have in a while, and I was either a little more tired than I thought. When that happens, I tend to get very lazy/sloppy with my swing. I’m no swing coach, but there’s a lot to be said for your bromide about swinging (and knowing) your swing… I was able to figure it out pretty quickly once I stopped moping and got my butt to the range. sirchunksalot, Kenny B, MattF and 3 others 6 Quote Driver: G425 Max 10.5* Fairway: Stealth 3HL & 7W Hybrids: Stealth 25* Irons: E722 6-AW Wedges: Jaws Raw Face 54-10 RTX Zipcore 58-6 Putter: ER7 34” 14th club? TheCanadianBogeyman
Kicking myself in the ass after the last hole today. Was having a great round. Made the turn @ 3 over. Coming to 18, I was 7 over with two doulbes on the day. Last hole is a short par 4. I put if 20 feet right of the green off the drive. No problem, chipping has been great all round, with at least 4 or 5 chip/one putt saves. All I need anyway is par to break 80, so anywhere on the green will do. So of course I blade the chip over the green! Nearly snapped my wedge in half after that. Easily my worst shot of the day, and I had to do it when things counted. I ended up chipping back on and two putting for bogey. 80 is still a great score for me, but to barely miss breaking it when it should have been so easy, that hurt real bad. Popular Post fixyurdivot
I got my first round in at Granite Falls North course. My green fee was $1557 . $1548 for the annual pass plus $9 for my round walking. As residents we get a pretty healthy discount from public rates but since I plan to play 3+ times/week, this pass with very reduced rates will save me money. I played with a husband/wife and they provided all kinds of intel on both the course and things about the community. I shot a 39/43. I had two drives on the back find bunkers and both jumped up onto the sliver island peninsulas - leaving me with stances having the ball about 2 feet above me and no other stance available . Both had to be "swatted out" into the fairway with little gain in distance. The first one made me chuckle, the second, not so much. The courses are in the process of the overseeding and will start closing in sequence leaving a couple open for play. While they don't look great now, I absolutely loved this course and they told me the others are as good, arguably better . I've joined the men's league and should be on the tee sheet for next Wednesday... pretty excited about the new house, community, and amenities... particularly the golf. I chose to start with one of my PV1 "Align" balls The hole #1, #10, and #18 complex with the lake, falls, chipping, and putting greens. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, MattF and 8 others 10 1 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Evnroll ER5v Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Currently Under Product Test)

Peaksy68
10 over 81. Started with a birdie, then missed a 6 foot birdie putt on the second. Ball striking was really good early, hit the first 7 greens in regulation. 2 over after 9. Was going ok until the 15th. CarlH
Goal for todays round: No doubles and under 80. We'll see how this pans out.... (to be continued) Well....mission failed! The greens were fast and pins were put in ridiculous places (I think they're saving the better pin locations for a girls tournament Monday). I 4 putted a par 3 green and 3 putted 2 other greens. Additionally, I hit 2 OB balls on 2 separate holes (2nd shot) both bouncing off a cart path and bounding just on the other side of the OB stakes. So, my double free round turned out to have 4 doubles and I shot an 83. I actually felt like I was hitting the ball better today, but the scores don't reflect that. Popular Post chisag
... Had my Renaissance Financial outing at the #1 public course in AZ, WeKoPa Saguaro. Before saying anything I had 3 pretty good partners as far as having an enjoyable day so absolutely no complaints since it was free, got a nice Johnny-O polo, lunch, drinks all round long and after round hors d'oeuvres. That said they were 1. beginner golfer with 2. his dad a "13" the had to be on his home course index and 3. an 18 that was just all over the place. Needless to say I had to play mostly safe shots and unable to take on pins because we usually had no balls on the green. We used every one of my tee shots but one when I tried to hit a huge drive and caught a low screamer in the heel. The most frustrating part was too many mid-short putts with quick sharp breaks and my 3 pards constantly played the low side often missing by 2 feet or more so putting 4th I had little idea what the break was on the high side and just had a hard time making putts. Those that weren't tap in's and handled by my pards just wouldn't fall with 3 high side lip outs so I only made 2 putts. Equally frustrating on long putts they were just very erratic, particularly the 13 that would hit putts 6 feet or more offline so no help at all. Did I mention they were good guys though? ... Obviously I pretty much played by myself as far as score and we ended up just 3 under. 18 under won and with 36 groups playing the 2nd best score was 9 under so that winning group was silly stacked with ex D1 players and a mini tour guy. I hit a 295yd drive on the longest drive hole and lost by about 50 yds LOL. Same group took long drive and closest to the pin that was 2 inches. All in all a really great day! JerryB
Walked Buena Vista alone today. Beautiful day. I walked up to the first tee, a short par four, as a twosome were teeing off. They invited me to play through as they were very new to golf. No warm-up, teed up and bombed it, stopping about ten yards short of the green. I chipped on and hit the birdie putt. Felt like a boss! That was the highlight, although the rest of the round wasn't terrible. A couple more pars and a couple double bogeys to finish with a (+8) 40.
