... Had my Renaissance Financial outing at the #1 public course in AZ, WeKoPa Saguaro. Before saying anything I had 3 pretty good partners as far as having an enjoyable day so absolutely no complaints since it was free, got a nice Johnny-O polo, lunch, drinks all round long and after round hors d'oeuvres. That said they were 1. beginner golfer with 2. his dad a "13" the had to be on his home course index and 3. an 18 that was just all over the place. Needless to say I had to play mostly safe shots and unable to take on pins because we usually had no balls on the green. We used every one of my tee shots but one when I tried to hit a huge drive and caught a low screamer in the heel. The most frustrating part was too many mid-short putts with quick sharp breaks and my 3 pards constantly played the low side often missing by 2 feet or more so putting 4th I had little idea what the break was on the high side and just had a hard time making putts. Those that weren't tap in's and handled by my pards just wouldn't fall with 3 high side lip outs so I only made 2 putts. Equally frustrating on long putts they were just very erratic, particularly the 13 that would hit putts 6 feet or more offline so no help at all. Did I men sion they were good guys though? 🤪

... Obviously I pretty much played by myself as far as score and we ended up just 3 under. 18 under won and with 36 groups playing the 2nd best score was 9 under so that winning group was silly stacked with ex D1 players and a mini tour guy. I hit a 295yd drive on the longest drive hole and lost by about 50 yds LOL. Same group took long drive and closest to the pin that was 2 inches. All in all a really great day!

That polo is KILLER!  nice tee package!!  It's been a while since I raked in some nice Tourney Swag... I need to put a bug in my company's ear to send me to a charity tourney or two 🙂

Well, I already gave you a "Like" for the goal... then you go and edit the post to say mission failed - but I don't want to change my response to a sad face... but the glass half full is that you felt like you were hitting the ball better... and even with 4 doubles, still shot 83?  yeah, that predicted good round is coming soon Carl!!

Well, you made me dig out my my old T-shirt...  🤣

Played 9 with a buddy this afternoon in absolutely perfect fall weather!

Played pretty up and down with some doubles and some birdies, some really good shots and some silly mistakes. Fall golf up north I always say is a win no matter how the score ends up!

Another rain filled round and played awful. Just so bad, one of those days. Shake it off and  on to the next one. Gorgeous course and quite tricky with a lot of side hill lies and the rough was essentially unplayable with it being as wet as it was.

It is so hard to get into a groove when the rain is coming down.  I try to only play in the rain if it is a tournament - but then... maybe that is why I struggle - I don't practice in the rain... 🤔

10 over 81. Started with a birdie, then missed a 6 foot birdie putt on the second. Ball striking was really good early, hit the first 7 greens in regulation. 2 over after 9. Was going ok until the 15th. Then 2 triples in succession followed by a bogey put an end to my hopes of a good score.

Highlights were a couple of good birdies, and perhaps the most spectacular shoes I’ve seen on the course courtesy of one of my playing partners who I’ve never played with before.

20 mph rinds made for a very interesting round.

82 (+10) with all bogey/par which is a feat for me. Had a rough stretch in the back of +7 and 5 bogeys in a row.

Played very conservatively for the most part. The front was playing really well and the driver got finnacky on the back so swapped to the new driving iron….this sucker isn’t going anywhere. The feel is fantastic and is everything I got it for, will be doing an unofficial at some point on it.

Glad I got out as the season is winding down. Views were great and was a great day for a walk in the course

My most recent game was better than the previous one for sure.  Driver decided to behave itself, but of course my fairways and hybrid decided to take a leave of absence. Long irons were so-so, but my short game saved the day.  IF I could ever get it all together in one round, I could do something really nice....

During my fitting last week the fitter and I talked about needing options to deal with the holes where driver is too long. To give an idea what I mean by that I didn't hit driver until the 8th hole today. My course has 3 different 9's and the "Valley" 9 has a lot of fairly short 330-380 yard par 4s with dog legs right around the 200 yard spot. Hit mostly hybrids off the tee to start and got to use driver more on the back 9.

Ended up shooting 43/44 for an 87. For someone that had only broken 90 once before this year, I feel like I can see the improvements. It was honestly one of those weird days where I felt that overall I hit the ball well, I just didn't score well. Had a painful 3 putt when my first putt hit some goose droppings and just died. Was going to be tough enough to 2 putt from 60+ feet, but that did not help. For new clubs that I didn't dial in the distances yet, I hit some shots long but for the most part my approaches were just a little off to the right. This hole was a combination of both. Hit it a little long and to the right and it took a wicked bounce long. 704936359_Screenshot_20221002-195223_ShotScope.jpg.30cdcb7dbda08b6b16cf0b59ec9ebb52.jpg

A few missed opportunities with some wedges and just not quite doing enough with the short game to give myself shorter first putts and the round could have been so much better. If that's my mediocre game now, I'm ecstatic compared to where I was.

The PXG irons have such a different sound than I am used to, it's just a lot of fun to hear them struck well. I had about 20 minutes hitting the 7 irons and 19 degree hybrid into the net yesterday, and about 40 shots of warmup with a wedge, an iron, and the driver. That was as much as I had swung the new clubs before playing. Took around 2.5 hours for the front and only 1.5 for the back. Was waiting on every shot for the first 12 holes until the group in front finally let me play through.

Got out on Sat with SWMBO, Grandson and My Father in Law, who drove SWMBO'd cart.. Absolutely great day, I did not play so well, tweaked my left knee a week ago and figured I'd give it a shot.. By the End of the front 9  was playing 1 legged trying to minimize the twist and force on that knee. between 9 and 10 i grabbed a knee brace out of the truck and tried it.. That went from Bad to worse... lol.. so it came back off .. i ended up with a 96 not great.. But I had the pleasure of watching my grandson @Blakedagolfer Who has only taken golf serious for a little over 9 months, not only break 90 for his 1st time he shot a very solid 85.. He played a very smart consistent round.. Watching him play made me very proud of how far he has come in the last few months.. Hey i did drink a few beers and enjoy a gorgeous fall day in Eastern Washington. Bonus.. LOL

Long overdue to post this one, but got out for a round while we were up in NH and it was a milestone round for me!  I woke up to a beautiful sunrise on the lake with expectations of a brisk, but sunny fall morning round.

No, the milestone was not because of my own play... I did shoot an even 35, but that wasn't the highlight of the day.  It was the first round for my middle child and I was excited to see him play!  My oldest son also played from his first official set of tees (they had purple junior tees ranging from 200 to about 250 yards for par 4 and par 5 holes).

We all played with my Father-in-law and it was *brisk* 40* and quite foggy when we teed off. The sun finally poked out as we were heading off the course and heading back to the lake house.

Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights today.  They're starting to punch the greens and were working somewhere on the front so we took off on the back.

Owen started rough and put four balls in the water on the first three holes and stopped keeping score.  He came around and finished pretty strong, though.

Me, on the other hand, I started well by going par par before getting a double bogey with some awful putting.

Then I had three straight one-putt bogeys that were waylaid by wonky approach shots.  Followed that with a three putt double bogey on a par five that taught me the importance of changing my setup when I grip down on a club.

The final two holes were already aerated so I'm not too down on them, but I had birdie looks on both and walked away with bogeys.  All in all, I shot a really good (+9) 45, so I can't complain one bit!

So I learned something today, and it ended the brief competition I wanted to have between the PXG XP irons and the Cleveland Halos.

The Halos are like cheating. If I’m a little off with the PXGs I pay the price for it. With the Halos, unless I put a horrible move on the ball, I’m getting a decent or better result.

Decision made. The Halos win by an early round KO. The XPs are great irons, but I know I’ll never want to switch them into my gamer bag over the Clevelands.
It was wort scratching the itch though thanks to the 100% money back guarantee PXG’s running right now.
