Popular Post JerryB
Today was my last day off and it was nice enough to head out and play a round. Walked River Heights today. Right when I checked in, a pair of foursomes we're teeing off on one so I went to the back. Jumped ahead of another single that was warming up, so I started on 12. Played the last seven holes, then the front five, before I ran into those foursomes again. They only played nine, but it was just shy of three hours for them. But anyway...I played great! Started strong, going +3 over my first seven holes. Faded in the middle (+10 over the next six) before finishing really well with a +1 over the last five. No 3 putts and eight pars despite only one GIR. 9/14 FIR. Really early on I tried to rein myself in by gripping down on a lot of shots. It helped a lot. Also stopped trying to be cute near the green and used my PW or 7 a lot more often and put the ball really close on several occasions. Shot (+14) 86, one of my best rounds ever. I have every intention to get out whenever the weather allows but I'm really half debating about shutting it down and ending on a high note. GaryF
I was going to play today, and so sad and disappointed that I didn’t play. Got up at 4am Sunday to get a message from American Airlines they cancelled our flight, and had no way to get me there before late today, so they cancelled my reservation. Probably was an alternate route, but I was more or less in shock and barely able to think. The reservationists was great and gave us flight credits, but then when I asked her to increase the value ( to today’s cost) she had to call another office for approval (a guy in Mexico). He told me that my ticket was issued in 2020 so we weren’t entitled to a flight credit. Huh? Treated me like a POS and cancelled our flight credit. I said yes, issued in 2020 for a trip to Ireland and cancelled by AA due to Covid, then current ticket issued Dec 30 2021 which is printed on the ticket, and again cancelled by AA. I think the reservationists was listening, and after hanging up, the credit reappeared a few minutes later. Was going to play here, then Verrado later in the week. chisag
... Well it is the ole tale of two scenarios. One good. One bad. The bad is I played 2 rounds with zero birdies. funkyjudge
I played 9 holes today, had 4 pars and a birdie, but shot 40 because of 3 bogeys and a double bogey on a hole where I hit my tee shot into a thorny bush (similar to gorse in the UK) and had to take an unplayable lie, and was unable to reach the green in three after taking my penalty drop. sirchunksalot, Kenny B, cksurfdude and 3 others 6 Quote DR - Callaway Paradym X, Newton Motion 4-Dot 4W - T.E. funkyjudge
It seems that every round of golf that I have played since recovering from cancer surgery on my leg (surgery was 8 weeks ago today and the recovery period was close to 6 weeks) has included at least three “blow up” holes. I’m talking about triple to quintuple bogeys (scores of 7 to 9 on par 4 and par 5 holes). The rest of each round has generally consisted of lots of pars, a birdie here and there, and maybe 2 to 4 bogeys per 18 holes. My scores over the last 2.5 weeks (four 18-hole and two 9-hole rounds) have ranged from 87 to 95 for 18 holes with a 43 and a 40 for 9 holes. Popular Post CarlH
Struck the ball fairly well today. Inside 100 yards, I struggled with my wedge getting steep and fat in the wet turf a couple of times on the front side. Putting was awful today. I lost count of the number of 3 putts. To be a little less harsh on myself, the pins were in some ridiculous places, but still.....I don't think I made one putt of any significance. Had several burn the edge and a couple lip out. Just wasn't my day with the putter. Shot an 83, despite good ball striking, several realistic birdie opportunities which I failed to make, and magnificent weather (actually quite warm in the low 80s). How about exchanging sympathies? Our Nov weather in GA is very spotty and 50s-60s. Played nine 2 days ago, 15-20 mph gusty winds. Just opened 2 weeks ago from overseeding and CPO. Uncharacteristically struggled with the driver (short mishits) but did hit the fairways. Between very long uncut fairway grass and LOTS of leaves, we spent frustrating amount of time trying to find our balls in the fairways. Shot 44. Played a different course yesterday (not over seeded), driver getting better, very gusty and shot 42 but could have been much better. Still bummed about my cancelled trip - should be playing Verrado today, but instead waiting for more wind and rain from Nicole. cksurfdude, GolfSpy TCB, Kenny B and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: Fusion, 9 deg, UST Recoil 450 ES F3/2 430 MAX 4w (5w head delofted 1* with 3w shaft), 7w, 5h w/ Alta CB Soft Regular shaft JPX923 HM 6i - GW w/ UST Recoil 460 ESX F3 RTX6 52* and 56* with Recoil 760 ESX F2 Versa DB DoubleWide : Z-Star Tour

Popular Post edingc
Not often I get to play golf in November. Weather turns tonight but today was 70 and beautiful, just a little windy. Texted the owner of my course (which closed last month) and he said to come out and play. So my brother-in-law and I had the entire course to ourselves. No flags or cups, putting just to holes in the ground. That lead to some long first putts when I didn't quite make it to the center of the green. Greens were rolling pretty well, fairways and roughs were pretty thick since they really haven't mowed much. Still, shot an 83 with four doubles in the less than ideal conditions. To go a full month without playing, practicing a bit but not as often, and still manage that, I'm over the moon. Swing felt really good today. My driver behaved for most of the round, my irons were pretty solid. I just cost myself strokes on the green (a four-putt and two three-putts) and on 18 I overdrew my tee ball OB onto the driving range. Six strokes that I could clean up easily. Second tee shot was mashed up the hill with a little wind help, a pitch was hit flush but just off the back of the green, and I ended up hitting a beautiful little chip to 3 feet to tap-in for double. Really was a nice set of swings to finish off my year. Popular Post CarlH
Today, the top 20 point winners in our MGA for 2022 competed in a Last Man Standing tournament. Note that this isn't the 20 "best" golfers, but the 20 highest point earnings based on play during the year with MGA Thursday games. Groups of 5 competed against one another in the following format: Holes 1-6 were cumulative scores (net). At the end of 6 holes, the person with the highest net score was eliminated. In each subsequent hole, highest score gets eliminated until one person wins on hole 9 (in each of the 4 groups). In cases of ties, a putt off was used to determine who would progress. After all four groups were done (2 groups played 1-9 and 2 groups played 10-18), the winners of each group would go to hole #7 for a 3 hole playoff with the lowest net score being the winner. I was in group 2. As the lowest handicap player in that group, I had to give 3 of the 4 players one stroke on hole #2. I shot 1 over for the first six holes (lowest of the 5). On hole 7, I bogeyed, but tied another player and beat one who hit his tee shot OB (par 3). On hole #8, I make par and the other 2 bogey the hole and have a putt off. Hole #9, I win with a par. I advance to the finals. The finals are hole 7 (par 3), hole 8 (par 5), and hole 9 (par 4). I will get a stroke from the lower handicap player and it falls on #9. I par all 3 holes and win by 2 shots gross (3 net) over the next best score (and last year's winner). I am the last man standing for 2022. 8 minutes ago, Sluggo42 said: Back went out again, but I’ve concluded it’s my kidney cyst- long story- but anyways- it fired off on the 9th tee to where I had to actually pick up and go home- extremely painful- makes me mad because I was -1 and had just hit back to back 275 yd drives with the TSr… now I’m back on the couch taking heavy duty Tylenol… gotta be tough to get old…. I've never played anything like it before, but it was really a fun way to play. They did flight the groups, so there weren't a lot of strokes being given out and players played from their normal tees that they play during regular play. In my first group, we had one guy playing the forward tee and the rest on the same tee. In the playoff, the low handicap player played one tee further back (he's 11 years my junior) and one playing the forward tees. Just a great format. I guess you could play with a larger group, but 20 seemed to be the right number. Yeah I know all about “old” at 72 because my body just won’t do what I want, and that’s bloody frustrating as right now I’m sitting in my recliner with muscle spasms in my left hip. Yup CPO this morning. Lucky to even get out after Nicole dumped about 4” of rain yesterday. Bacon Boyz decided after a couple holes that 6 was enough. Too bad I had to that point 5 pars and an extremely ugly double where a ProV1x decided on drowning over staying with me. I haven’t been posting on Play lately as with new driver, fareway woods and irons I’m in total experimental mode. Irons are getting OK, 7 wood is great, Driver is still a bit of a mystery, still playing around with loft but it’s now a slight fade. I’m OK with that. Grand Stranded
Tomorrow I play a Stableford event, Tuesday it’s a quota game, then I wrap my year up next Saturday with our Member-Member Tournament. The following Monday I head up to Long Island, and won’t be back down until after Christmas. It seems like I’m slipping into one of my funks lately. There isn’t one particular part of the game where I’m struggling, it’s more a lack of focus leading to making bad errors either in judgement or execution. i honestly don’t feel like I’m playing poorly, but my scoring has been horrible, and that’s infuriating. It feels like this trip north is coming at the right time. I need a break from golf right now. I usually take the clubs up with me, in hopes of squeezing in a couple of rounds with my nephews and friends up there, but right now I think I’ll leave them down here this time, JerryB, Rickp, MattF and 5 others 8 Quote Driver: G425 Max 10.5* Fairway: G425 Max 14*5* & 17.5* Hybrids: G425 Max 22* & 26* Irons: Apex DCB 6-AW Wedges: Jaws Raw Face 54-10 RTX Zipcore 58-6 Putter: ER7 34”
EasyPutter
Veterans Day golf has become a tradition at a favorite family owned course south of me, they don't charge Vets for a cart on this day and if I walk it they usually just waive the greens fee. Today Nicole's northern bands arrived on the way to the course. Took this video on the ride to the course, been using this windshield treatment for 40 years, problem is the heavier the rain the easier it is to forget it is raining and have to remember I'm going to get wet if I get out without an umbrella ready. I do enjoy playing golf in rain, don't know what it is but more than any other conditions my game comes together better than other times. 46 and 44 for one more than my best round ever (and handicap went down a point when the round saved). This one is going for my Week 7 Tour entry, too good to pass up. Only 2 others on the course before me and they said I was their last player on the course for the year. Presented with a certificate for golf next year so essentially gave me back my green fee to use again after the no-outdoor-golf months are past. The improvements this year with new footbridges improving access across their many creeks, places where brush used to be now resembling idyllic gardens, better cart paths and terraced tee boxes, indeed I will be back next year and not just to use their gift as more than ever it is a peaceful place I golf to find. cksurfdude, Bang60, Rickp and 5 others 8 Quote Derek Verified Hack, ~21 handicap Golf for exercise and peace of mind. |> Big Dogs: First Strike Rattlesnake (10), TeelessTM (13), Tommy Armour TA1 3h (19), Ginty Trouble Club (29) |> Blades: First StrikeTM DeliveranceTM 4(23) 5(26) 6(29) 7(33) 8(37) 9(41) P(45) |> Wedges: Worx (55) Lovett (59) |> Flatstick: L.A.B.
