Popular Post Kenny B
My wife called the clubhouse this morning to see if they were going to open today. It was 32º with a few snow flurries! They said there was a 99% chance they wouldn't open. 3 hours later my wife said they would be open at 11:40... wanna go? It was 36º. Well, I guess we are 1%'ers!! We got to the parking lot and there were 3 cars there; the head pro, asst pro, and the 92 year old former pro were BS'ing in the pro shop. No carts were being let out, so we had to walk. Had the entire course to ourselves. We got everything loaded up and it started to rain. Me: Are you sure you want to do this? Wife: I don't think the heavy stuff is going to come down for quite awhile. So off we went to play the front nine. My wife birdies the 1st hole with a chip-in. Shoots 43 (+6). I shoot 46; lots of mishits. I hate cold and rain. rkj427, cksurfdude, cnosil and 10 others 9 2 2 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Popular Post Syks7
Mixture of good and bad today. 40/44 84 gross, 10 pars, 4 doubles, 4 bogies, 34 putts, and partridge and a pear tree. Good: My putting was much better than the 34 would imply. Zero three putts. Zero misses inside 6 feet. Good lines and speed all day. Just not quite good enough to drop. It appears that the speed training is working. If nothing else I'm learning to swing fast consistently. For a 55 degree, windy, drizzly day I hit one out to 289, another to 285, a pair out to 270, and a 260 yard drive straight into the teeth of a 1.5 club wind that I think would have been my longest of the day. 243 average for the day. (Distances thanks to my new watch). The four doubles were odd. It felt like I'd never swung a club before on all 4 of them. Just couldn't get it together -- starting with trouble off the tee. I'd get to the green in 4 and two putt. Had fun though, something I've been focusing a lot more on. I'm either going to breakthrough at some point or I've arrived at my Peter Principle. Popular Post CarlH
Today was one of those days where I hit the ball decently but just couldn't score. I was in 7 bunkers and went 0 for 7 getting the ball up and down. Putting wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. You know...good putts that don't go in the hole for whatever reason. Shot an 86 on a fairly cool day. I think the high during the round was low 50s. Not too many groups for the shotgun today, as it was still about 40 degrees when we teed off. Popular Post CarlH
Disappointing round today with an 83. Burned a lot of edges with the putter. One hole, I was even Kevin Na-ing it walking it into the hole, only to groan when it burned the edge AGAIN!!! Was cold and windy out today and ball wasn't traveling far, at all. On the bright side, the team did well enough to win our money back plus some. Game was 3 best gross ball (foursome). Tough format, but the teams were fairly evenly matched with A,B,C, D players. Played with the new Titleist 348 Prototype ball today. Hit some good shots, hit some not so good. Ball holds the greens aggressively with spin! Popular Post Grand Stranded
I played surprisingly well Saturday. 3 bad holes due to 2 bad swings and a lapse in concentration on a 1.5’ putt I missed were the only real miscues in what was an encouraging day otherwise. I chunked a tee shot on a par 3 into the water on #4, but then re-teed instead of dropping in front of the hazard (because I’m stubborn). I hit it to 10’ but missed the putt, took a 5. Then, after striping my new 5 hybrid all day, I tempted fate by telling my cart mate what a great move it was getting one. The very next hole I dead shanked it into water, (I didn’t think it was possible to shank a 5 hybrid, but I was able to figure out how very quickly) and had to make a 10 footer for a triple(). Then the brain cramp on 17 where I missed the 18” tap in, which ended up costing me $20. I shot a 84 net 71 and collected $50 when all was said and done. I lost a tiebreaker for 2nd and missed 1st place in net by a shot. That’s golf though… it evens out. We always look back and harp on the miscues, rather than think about the “saves” and the good shots. So, it wasn’t perfect, but after not touching a club for 2 weeks, I can’t complain. I needed the break. My mental outlook was so much better, and I enjoyed the round, rather than enduring it. That’s what was happening with me for quite a while. I wasn’t having a good time out there. This game is a challenge, but it’s also supposed to be fun.. For a while there it wasn’t. Ben_Howell34
Shot a 45/41 86 at Bent Brook. Not a great round but have definitely been worse. Weather was wet and cool and it definitely affected ball flight and distance, so I probably played a little better. Short game was great, approaches were not generally speaking. Probably hit 5-6 shots fat, almost all of them with my 52* or 56* wedge, which makes it even worse. Popular Post Grand Stranded
Backed up Saturday’s nice round with another one today. I didn’t really do anything exceptional, nor did I place in the money, but I shot a very solid 86 on what was a very long tough course (at least for me) at 6300 yards. I’m hoping to get two more in on Saturday and Tuesday before I head up north for Christmas. I probably won’t get to play again until after my daughter has her twins. She’s due around the 10th of February, but supposedly twins come early? I’m really excited about finally becoming a grandparent, and starting out right away with both a boy and a girl is going to be great. I can’t wait! I wish it would warm up here; I've been off for over a week, but not self-imposed! Actually, my wife and I are starting to get on each other's nerves... she needs to get back on the course!! My wife has no interest in golf lucky me lol EasyPutter, Grand Stranded and cksurfdude 1 2 Quote I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

My wife grew up in a golf family as well. He dad was scratch and club champion at multiple country clubs. Her mom played, but it was a social thing for her. Her 5 older brothers and an older sister all played, and she was on her H.S. golf team. She didn't play for many years after she moved here, but she decided to go play with her girlfriend one day at the course I played. I joined them. This was early 2000's and she was still playing 1960's Powerbilt blades and persimmon woods. She was putting with her grandfather's hickory-shafted putter. Several years later I proposed on the 1st tee of that course and we got married on the 1st tee (by a jazz musician) a year later. She is much more competitive than I am and plays more days a week than I do. When we travel, I always have a playing partner!!
