Popular Post GolfSpy_APH
Been building off recent success playing a lot better golf. Last round was birdie on the first hole (near tap in putt) followed by back to back to back pars on a tricky par 4, long par 5 (that could have been a better birdie chance) and what I find a difficult par 3 (again missed a makeable birdie putt). I did bogey the following par 5, but had a poor tee shot and ended up making a good long 2 putt for bogey. 6 made another birdie followed by a good par and then to finish off the front 9 back to back bogeys. Bad second shot into the front hazard. Was caught a bit in between clubs and with wind in went with the longer one and chunked it... so dumb. Next one was a par 3 and made the green just didn't have a good enough lag putt and ran it over the edge on the par putt. However! Still only 1 over through 9. 10 was foolish and went long on the approach then just not close enough on the putt out of the first cut. Again silly mistake, but it happens. A good par, but should have been birdie on 11 with another bad lag putt. 12 was actually a good bogey. Left on the tee shot which made a longer somewhat blind shot in, put it in a deep greenside bunker from about 165ish and didn't quite make the up and down. So now I am at 3 over and my best ever score is 2 over through 18. A string of great par on 13,14,15 which are my 3 least liked holes on the course got me back on track before a bogey on 16 being 120 out again after my tee shot. Greenside bunker in a dog footprint and then 2 putt. Blahh...17 being my favourite hole I smashed a drive left semi and had to hack out, which was fine but came up short and ball sat down in a crap spot with a bad chip and again another quick bogey. So 18 time for redemption. The previous round I put in the water (islandish green par 3) and annoyed I reteed and stuck it to about 5 inches... well I might as well had just copy and pasted. Slight miss hit and went in the water, retee and put it to under a foot. Was a fun round and ended up 78. The game is really coming around and I think had I known a few yardages better many of those little mistakes could have been minimized. No arccos, no rangefinder I am going off of feel on all my distances and it certainly causes for what I would say is 6 lost shots at the very least. richk9holes
Played Pine Brook par 61. +3 on the front for 34 with 14 putts, back to back birdies #6-7. Finally put together the 9 holes no blowup I was trying for. The back 9 was tough. My miss all day was left, and the ones that were getting lucky in the left trees on the front turned into very unlucky on the back, including a drive left OB on #16. I was putting for my best score ever on #18 but just missed left edge from 6 ft. Ended up tying my best effort here with +12 for 73. I deserve the string of 4 straight 3 putts on #11-14. richk9holes
Better round today. Gambler Ridge par 71. Went out 1pm, skipped a single and a 4some along the way and finished in under 3 hours. 46° and impending rain contributed to pace, but I by no means rushed. Rain didn't come until hole 16 and happy to report it wasn't more than a drizzle. I got hit with a dozen drops of rain on 17-18 after feeling 1 on 16. First 8 holes I missed left 4 times and 5 or 6 right with the 16 shots I took between tee/approach. I scrambled like a madman to somehow be -2 net at that point with a drive in the middle of the 9th fairway. 8i left pin high, a chunked 52° and a 3 putt later I'm putting a double bogey in the 9th box and totalling my front 9. Grr. Shot the same score on the back 9 with fewer misses but worse putting. 84 is my best score ever here but I am disappointed I continue to find creative ways to play to my handicap. I lost strokes to experimenting with the chipper I'm carrying as the 14th club I don't need. I feel luck was a negative factor today as well. All this gives me encouragement I'm making progress and I feel confident this could be the course I break 80 one day. Note: on diet, those red grapes from WaWa were the best $3 I've spent in a long time. Popular Post CarlH
The group played a Shamble today, so the score is not one that I can post since I wasn't always playing my drive. In any case, I drove the ball well, my iron play was good, my putting was just a hair off--burning the edges constantly. Just wasn't seeing the line well, I guess, as the putts were good putts that just didn't go in. Anyway, had 3 bogeys and nary a birdie (despite many attempts) to shoot a 75 (again, not always using my tee shot). Due to the wet course conditions, we opted to play from the tees one forward of my usual, which left me with a lot more iron shots into the par 4 holes than woods/hybrids. I could get used to those tees! 2 of the 3 bogeys was due to my infamous wedge game, or lack thereof, the other was a poor putt from the fringe that left me with a 9 foot putt that I failed to convert. cnosil, rkj427, JerryB and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. Popular Post GolfSpy_APH
Yesterday went out in some iffy conditions. Weather was about 7 or 8 degrees and wind was consistent 40kmh with gusts over double. Either way with not knowing how many days I get a chance to go out I went for and thought at worst play 9 and head in. Hoping the weather and threat of rain would keep most people away would also allow for a quicker round. Well I was right about the last part. 4 booked, only 1 other showed up. A 14 hdcp from Germany who just moved to the area for work. Seemed around my age and we hit the course running. The wind was brutal, so difficult and made for such a challenging round. However through 4 holes I was only 2 over and really wasn't playing poorly. Club selection was tough! Fast forward a bit and it started to skys opened up with rain and after 13 holes my playing partner called it a day. Understandably, he was starting to struggle more and clearly wasn't having much fun. I did notice his bag and he was fully kitted out in Ping which made me smile. His G30 driver brought back fond memories and man he hit the balls straight. He also had the i525 irons which I have had a half eye on and couldn't help but hear a pretty clear click on strikes which surprised me. It was his first time on the course and he played pretty well as I tried to give him as much course knowledge as possible to make the experience better. Unfortunately the bunkers were super wet and made them borderline unplayable, which he found himself in more than a few times. So after 13 when he left I was 9 over. No birdies and playing well, but the winds caught me out so many times. I took a 6 iron which for me is a 160 meter carry from 120 and ended up short. Was just that kinda day. About 1 hole after he left the skies cleared and it was still stupid stupid windy, but was dry and managed to play out the rest of the round by myself in just over 2.5 hours shooting a 42 on the front and 42 on the back for an 84. Honestly given the weather seemed liked so much more. It is truly amazing how much better scores are when you are not loosing balls or shots off the tee. Truly world breaking. I have this awesome cut with the driver that I can aim right down the left side of the fairway and if it stays straight great thats where I am or if it falls back left I am right in the middle. It is taking some adjustment in terms of mindset having played a draw forever, but I am starting to see the course a lot better and the confidence is trending in the right direction. richk9holes
Mr. Hyde had fun most of the afternoon at Howell Park. Took many photos for those curious of conditions after a morning rain at one of the least draining courses around. I have copious notes which I will add later, along with a score which I'm scared to add up. How many digits 2 or 3? Ah, at least I got to walk the full 18 and hit something 100mph a few times which I could never do either driving around in my Camry. richk9holes
Teaser: I'm going to put notes on the above post. Get ready resident amateur and actual psychology students and professionals, this will be good. The sheer amount of things I wrote on the scorecard is a thing of wonder in itself. The long winded explanations of each bullet point could fill a book or dissertation at the least. I will try my best to fall short of the TL:DR cliff. Added: Bullet Point Thoughts ▪︎Forced this whole endeavor. Day 3 in a row of playing, wet and windy ish, late in the day before I went out. ▪︎Tree Shock Response. The first time you test a treeline and clip it you will instinctively miss all shots involving trees there on. ▪︎Lost the Vice Pro I found yesterday. It was a good ball, will miss. ▪︎Putter is too heavy, I will change the grip. Tour Traxion 2.0 superstroke. ▪︎I will leave the chipper out of my setup. I'm not accurate enough to play anything with an insert. ▪︎I want a 5i now. I'm hitting my 6i better and want to see if I can smoothly gap 5i-AW. ▪︎3 putt No Matter What. Multiple times I obsessed over some putts hitting the same miss 3 times in a row and not following through from 3-5 ft. ▪︎The ^ point leads to: Luck Adjustment Handicap Index. This is a real thing. Today mine was set at "+cursed" Notes under hole #4 read 3H left p.h., bad SW, good SW, bad lag, g.g. D.H. ▪︎Pace was 4 hours + all my fault. I was the worst of 4 golfers on the course. 7s take longer than 3s and 4s, as it turns out. ▪︎Pace was not helped by the 100 notes I scribbled around the scorecard. Neither was scoring, I'm confident to say. ▪︎4 ! Putted. #18 for my 2nd 7. I found out later the 2 ft putt I pushed was for 99. I was lagging from 60ft. In the dark, in my defense. Javs
Ok today was a nice hot day, but the wind was blowing! First tee hooked the tee shot had to take a drop and made bogey. Bounced back on number 2 with a birdie. Number 3 drive it 296 and then just miss hitting the par 5 in two. Left myself in a bad spot and took four to get in for bogey. Number 4 birdie. See how this round is going…. Then a bunch of pars. Birdie the par 5 7th hole. Bogey number 8 and par nine. Even on the front. Drive it 310 on the par 5 tenth down wind. Jump all over an eight iron to hit it 200 to the back of the green straight down wind. Lip out for Eagle and tap in birdie. A bunch of pars. Then on a tricky par 4 with a creek across the fairway I choose to lay up. Unfortunately, I nutted the hybrid 240 into the creek. Drop, loose focus and make a double. Follow that up with a bogey. Then a birdie on 17. Finally, the par 5 final hole which is one of my favorite holes. Rip a drive through the dogleg. Have 235 left and drill a hybrid onto the green. Another lip out eagle for easy birdie. Not a bad day! Wearing the SQAIRZ shoes! Edited March 13, 2023 by Javs cksurfdude, JerryB, berkeleybob and 5 others 8 Quote Play like a champion today!
