ButchE
had a Veterans Golf Assoc. tourney scheduled for yesterday, temps at 9Am were in the upper 20s with 10-15 mph winds. It didn't get above the frost line until afternoon., not sure they even played it. That's not golf weather, that's deer hunting stuff right there. Would the course even allow their greens to be trampled at those temps? sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, Rickp and 1 other 1

Popular Post Limping Lefty
Had a really surprisingly great round (for me) that has me doubting everything I've read about club fitting and new technology. Card below but.....I was a round at my old home club while back in Ireland for a weekend game with my brothers. I was playing with a set of clubs that was very assorted. My irons were a set of DCI 990s I left at home a few years ago, from 2003 ish. My driver was a Taylor made burner in 9.5 that I'd bought on ebay about 8 years ago. The putter was my nephews, pulled out of his bag that I had time for roughly 15 mins of pootling around the putting green with. I had my best ball sriking day of the last few YEARS. I was shaping my irons more or less as desired, and while I missed a few putts early on, I holed a bunch of clutch putts coming in to finish 4 over gross..... Super happy with the day, less happy to have pointless spent about 2-3k on fitted Irons, woods and putter over the last 3 years!!!! sirchunksalot, MattF, Kenny B and 8 others 11 Quote Titleist TSi2 Driver + 3w, Evenflow white Titleist 3 Hybrid 23 deg Irons Titleist 5-PW, T200 Wedges Vokey 46/52/58 Current WHS 10.6, lowest 6.5, low round 71 GR

Great round. regarding you comments on fitting; clubs cannot be measured by a single shot, round, or possibly even season depending on how many rounds you play a year. Having the right clubs in your hands will potentially lower your scoring floor and ceiling. It’s also possible that those clubs were pretty well fit for you. I was very happy with the fittings at the time, but since then I've also worked on my speed and I think my swingspeed is now back to what it was when I used to play a lot more (and was younger!), so its reasonably likely my flex profile etc will have changed since.... The shafts in the old set were all pretty stiff or certainly stiffer than i was more recently fitted for, so I may go for a tweak with my guy. cnosil, cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and 4 others 7 Quote Titleist TSi2 Driver + 3w, Evenflow white Titleist 3 Hybrid 23 deg Irons Titleist 5-PW, T200 Wedges Vokey 46/52/58 Current WHS 10.6, lowest 6.5, low round 71 GR
Beakbryce
Played my local course, which we play 3 times a week. Played a scramble with my wife and another couple. I live outside Phoenix and get most people would like to play all year around, which we do. Everyone thinks Phoenix area courses are always hard and fast. However, we usually play in the morning, and the course is usually soaked and fairly soft. Yesterday, we played in the afternoon. My drives were a good 25 yards longer. We shot 4 under. richk9holes
Played Hanover GC for the 1st time. 35 min from my house, Happy to report I found another nice affordable option with a design that suits my game. Riding for $21 was great. 3 w/2 who booked together meant I got my own cart. Pace was moderate at 4 hours on the dot for the round, 11:30 to 3:30. Left plenty of time to assess everything, perhaps overanalyze in places and practice putting on a few green where we saw a backup at the tee ahead of us. 41-43 for +13 84 is good for a 1st time course. Clean front 9 I'm very pleased with. Had to scramble and putt well for that number. How I finished w/ 84 leads me to think I can add this to the "potential break 80" list. 3x 3 putt on the back after none on the front. Last coming on #18 when I hit perfect driver into wind, tested water 180 to clear unsuccessful on the 2nd shot w 4w (big dumb cajones), dropped hit 4th shot short. You'd think I'd account for the wind at that point. Then 3 putt for 8 to finish with 84. Blue skies and sunshine 95% of the time. It was so dry and the courses were hard and fast but the rest of the course looked like a dusty spaghetti western. This year it is lush and green everywhere and even the "dormant" rough isn't dormant, it's green-ish. But I hear ya about the rain. My last 2 Mays in Chicago were the wettest in history and I probably played 10 rounds max in those 2 months. Popular Post Triple_Putt
First real round of the year. Shot a 95 where I was hoping for a 90. Oh well. A lot of stupid mistakes and triple putts where I felt I could have done better but was rushing myself in the moment. Only 1 birdie on the day, 15th hole Par 4 landed it here off the tee… then proceeded to 2 putt it in. Felt like my driver was the only thing working well for me today, putting was terrible and my iron choices were either wayyy long or short. Plenty more to improve on now that we are seeing temps in the 60’s briefly in the afternoons for the foreseeable future! Hoping to come back and play the other 18 holes here at Lyman’s next Tuesday Edited March 21, 2023 by Triple_Putt JerryB, EasyPutter, sirchunksalot and 9 others 12 Quote Super Burner 2.0 10.5* Fly-Z hybrid SMS 4-GW i3 5 Wood SM7 56*,60*, SM8 52* Versa 1 putter 2023 Tested: Edel SMS Irons
Popular Post MaxEntropy
It's always fun to be able to start participating in this thread again.... League started tonight. Even though I haven't touched a club in about 4 months, everything was pretty good. 3 pars, 5 bogies, and an eagle for a +3 (38). The eagle came on a par 5 with a temp tee box that only shaved about 20-30 yards off the length, but more importantly, it allowed me to cut the corner of the dogleg a bit. I didn't intend to, but that's what happened. Stuck a 6 iron from about 165 to 4 feet and buried the putt. Driver was good. Irons were solid contact but I pushed a few wide. Short game was ok given the early season greens. richk9holes
Happy with the way I played at Mercer Oaks East. First time playing here, avoided any trouble from the tee and that helped. Only blowup hole was a par 3 triple on #12, tee to sand to still in sand to long putt to bad lag. I made it 11 holes with 4 pars, 7 bogeys and not many putts made outside 3'. After the triple I focused big time, hit 4 of 5 fairways and the 170yd par 3 #16 gir. Finished the final 6 holes at +1, with a couple 10-15 ft putts dropping, including a 15' to finish the day at 43-40 for 83, 35 putts, 11 of 14 FW hit, only 7 gir which means my 52° and 56° were on all day. Another what might've been round, lots of positives to take away. The tee shot on #12 was 4 yards from being on the green, but went straight and drifted left with the wind. A 6 there could've easily been 3 if I didn't aim at the left side but rather targeted the front of the green. Popular Post Grand Stranded
Way too much good news in here, let me spoil the mood. As @MattWillGolf will surely attest, it was another really cold day down here. A frost delay in the middle of March? Ugh. After winning 3x and taking 2nd the last 4 weeks in my Tuesday members league, I birdied 2 of the first 6 holes on the Love Course in Barefoot. I actually thought to myself “my days of struggling on a golf course are over!” Hah! Not so fast, Johnny boy. The wheels came off on the back 9 and I closed my round with a triple bogey 7 on 17 followed by a “I’m picking up, give me a 10 after dunking my second ball in the water on 18. At that point, it didn’t matter whether I finished or not. I crawled in with my tail between my legs, finishing with a 93. After a few scotches in the clubhouse, I was numb enough to not care. I’ll chalk today up to one of those days we have that keeps us humble. On a happier note, I never thought I’d successfully replace my Yes! Tracy putter, but a few months ago I bought a Cameron 5.5… this thing is amazing. I love it.
