How'd you play?

First two-day major of the year for us.  50% of your handicap broken out into way too many flights (7 flights for 52 guys).  Ended up shooting 77-76 gross, which turned into 75-74 net and one shot out of a playoff for first.

First day was a constant scramble to save par on each hole.  Second day was fantastic except for a 4 hole stretch where my driver went completely off the rails.  Oh well, it was a good time out there.

... Good luck! I was gonna say you could live vicariously through the Cobra Challenge but with the 2nd pick in the draft you selected Trubisky instead of Mahomes, Bowie instead of Jordan, Bush instead of Verlander ... so maybe just watch some golf highlights on TV?

I. DID. NOT. CHOKE.

Yes, I'm quoting my post from Tuesday.

I played a new-to-me course this afternoon and shot a 40/37 = 77 (+6). Not that it really matters, they had everyone going off the back today, so the front was actually the better 9. MILESTONE ALERT - first time I've broken 80 ( @GolfSpy_APH, can I get that Broke 80 badge please?). I've had a few 80's and 81's.

I putted out of my mind on the second 9. I had 12 putts even with a 3-putt on the last hole. A chip in par helped and five 8-10 footers made for pars. I also made ~25 footer for birdie. Driver was mostly steady all day long. A couple bad swings but the holes I did it on were not terribly penal to do that.

Our area is in dire need of some rain and many of the mid-tier munis are really dry - mid-August bounces and rolls. It is really good for the ego, though, especially when I am hitting driver well. I had 4 drives that were in the 284 - 296 range. Most importantly, the last hole was great. I stood there knowing I could have a bit of a blow-up and still break 80, but there were still some nerves - my big miss is right and there was OB right. Focused on positive thoughts and piped it 285 up the hill to the right center of the fairway.

Tale of the tape, according to Arccos.

Today was opposite of yesterday when I couldn't hit my driver; all drives were decent today and irons were probably the best I've hit them for 18 holes.  I hit 14 GIR; might be a personal best!  Could not make any putts!?!  Shot 40/37 with a double on our easiest par 5... good tee shot; good 3W; chunked a PW; bladed a SW; and 3-putted!  WTF!!!   Still a +5 round of 77 and left my birdie putt one revolution short of shooting my age on #18.  🥴

Meh. My swing has left me. Still scoring OK at times, but outside of a couple solid 9s there has been nothing good to talk about. My driver, which had been phenomenal until recently, is now nothing but low and left. Irons, too.

My putter has been really pretty solid though, so trying to look on the bright side. But this has to be the worst swing funk I've ever been in.

Timing is just a little off.  Happens to me all the time.  All of a sudden... it's back.  No worries!

Played 9 holes at Clearbrook GC Par 35. Happy with the 41 I shot, finished bogey-double on 8-9 so could have been much better.

Round started with excellent ball striking +3 through 7 holes (-3 net), my contact drifted to the toe and I played the final 2 holes down the right side.

Coming in I said I wanted to avoid 3 putts ✔️ 15 putts made a 4' and a 15' from off the green to go with mostly adequate lags.

And avoid any score worse than 6 ✔️ Double on #9 was a 5 with a mucked SW. 6 on #3 was on the 450y handicap 1 par 5 hole. Birdied #4 260y par 4 driver-PW and the above mentioned putt from the fringe.

Also shot a personal best from the white tees on this 9 hole. Makes sense since previous 43 and 44 scores were accompanied by not checking one of the 2 objectives above.

Yep!  The pin was in front which is very difficult to get to; can't see the putting surface, but I know the green slopes away from the front to the middle, then slopes uphill to the back of the green.  Greens are very firm and if the ball lands on the green it releases to the back which leaves a downhill then uphill putt.  Landing short of the green doesn't guarantee a release onto the green.  I tried to get cute with my PW and chunked it, but the bladed SW really frosted me.  I can't remember the last time I bladed my SW.  Should have just fired to the middle of the green and take a 20 footer back up the slope.

My finish on #9 today was similar hole played 180y to the back, 163y to a front location. I hit 5i toe side and wound up with the ol' chip-over-bunker scenario I decided future encounters with this shot will be approached with a focus on staring at the back of the ball, Jedi mind trick myself to not see the blasted trap.

Every day I practice at the course I always hit a dozen balls over the practice bunker.  Actually, I'm not sure why I do it other than I enjoy the challenge because I never have that shot on my course.  I'm actually pretty good at it, and maybe it will come in handy at some other course.

I find for me I will unlock something with my driver swing that feels good, but then I'll start to incorporate that into short iron shots and vice versa. A huge part of it is the "present in the moment" concept in the sense of understanding the athletic task at hand and unlocking the muscle memory for that specific task, with a touch of intuition and a sprinkle of luck. It's a simple recipe. It just ain't easy to cook up.

Yes, yes it does.

It would be fantastic if somehow I made a leap and could consistently shoot in the high 70's or low 80's, but I understand the statistics. I've been at or below my handicap for three weeks now - a serious blow-up round is likely right around the corner. I'm mostly just hoping I can minimize the damage when it comes.

Played at Twin Bridges Golf Club in Gadsden, Alabama yesterday with my nephew to cross another state off his list in our new journey to play in all 50 states. Had an absolute blast and he played some of his most consistent golf yet. I played decently and can't say enough about the course. The staff was exceptional and the course was fun. Pictured is the signature hole, a 180 yard par 3 that was down hill and over water. Hit a 9 iron pin high to about 8 feet but lipped the birdie putt out. Definitely a course I'd like to get out to again, it seemed very scoreable and with a round under my belt I could see myself shooting close to even or better.

I think it's awesome you got out and played in a different state with your nephew and it's cool y'all have a goal of playing all 50. I'm glad the two of you had a good time today.

Played a couple times since I last posted. Game isn't in perfect shape yet, but limiting disaster holes to about 1 per round. Was part of a winning scramble in a small, hackers only type outing last time out. Was nice to see a bunch of circles on the scorecard, even if it was a team event. Hoping to get out this week, maybe after squeezing in another lesson.

Played Stony Creek Metropark Golf Course and was paired up with a couple of men, who also worked in the auto industry. They knew a friend of mine who used to work with me but recently retired, and one was a neighbor of another friend of mine from our car club. Overall a very enjoyable day, picture perfect weather, a little breezy, and it was great to make a couple new friends.

Course was in good shape, although the speed of the greens on the back 9 were much slower than usual, and quite a big difference from the green speed on the front 9.

Longest drive was "wind aided" and on a par 5 that I hit a 4 iron from 199 yards over the back of the green in 2. Made par on that hole, although I have never been over the back in 2 before.

Indoor simulator 1 round at Quail Hollow 6400 yd is asking a lot from my long game, but I managed ok. 47-40 for +15 I was +9 through 4 and actually played really well from 5 through 17 before a freak double bogey on #18 where I chipped through the green from 28y and it rolled OB.

Update to this, Standings are posted I'm not sure if the scores updated automatically or more scores will be manually input, but it feels good to see my name on "the podium" so to speak

I went out for 9 last night to see if i had enough game to play in the league this week after sitting out last week.  I was 6 over after 7 holes before deciding i was not doing my back any good.  I think another week or two on the DL and having a sub that can play to their handicap is best for the team.

IMG_8591.jpg.91806c196ea4ce09c7fc3548ea1bdddf.jpgOver the last 2 weekends I played at Beaver Creek CC a few times because half of the course is still closed to bunker renovations. They've only got 9 holes open so I was able to get a few laps around those. Never ended up keeping score because I was just playing for fun with my family but I have noticed 2 things about my game right now.

1) I've got a pretty good streak of ball striking going on right now. I can't seem to hit the ball poorly.

2) With that superb ball striking, I can't aim to save my life. I may end up taking alignment sticks out on the course if it's empty enough to get some good alignment practice in.
