ChazBlack12
Played 18 early Friday morning. Had decent expectations but was coming off a 2 week vacation followed by a 3 day work trip.. anything could have happened... Driver was super consistent all day, 10 fairways hit, rusty short game after 1.5 months between rounds. Struggled to 4-over through 6 but made 5 birdies the rest of the way in for an even-par 72. 14 greens in reg, 30 putts and one giant 3-putt bogey which kept me from going -1 on the day. Also, didn't birdie a par-5 all day long which feels like leaving strokes on the course given 300+ off the tee... onto the next! JerryB
Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights again this morning. Owen's becoming pretty predictable: he started slow and finished strong. I kinda sorta did the same, just far worse. I had three doubles and two quads to start before finishing par double par bogey. Today was another overall misadventure. I can't do anything with my long clubs. Irons were bad. Full wedges were good but I suddenly had some chipping yips. Chunked just about every club at least once. Putting was better today compared to yesterday although I realized too late that I was opening the face slightly on my stroke. Frustrating day but still beats most alternatives!! cksurfdude, GolfSpy_KFT, MaxEntropy and 6 others 9 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter
Popular Post revkev
First league night last night - I enjoy this league because it is play it individual, play it down, put it out. We play the local muni which is in great shape for a muni but lots of divots and spotty lies in the rough, footprints in the sand, poor rake jobs, all must be handled as it lies. I played in this league for 13 years and then stopped when it went on hiatus during COVID. I didn't return but decided to go back because even though it's not at my club I like the people who play in the league, I love the format, It's cheap enough ($65 entry fee and $11 to walk nine) and I can walk unless the weather is threatening. I got an email about play beginning and was told that because of my age I would play the yellow (senior) tees. Honestly I could handle the white or regular men's tees at this course but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. My handicap is currently a 7 so I'm getting 4 strokes every 9 to start. I shot 37 which tied with 4 other guys for the low 9 of the evening - It should have been lower but I had a brain fart on 7 that led to double - should have hit driver into the widest part of the fairway but hit 3 wood because that's what I've always hit on that hole but from a set of tees or even two sets of tees back (when I was younger than 55 and a 1 or 0 in the league.) I hit 8 greens in regulation, 17 putts (sounds bad but when you are hitting greens you have longer first putts - no 3 putts - made a couple of nice second putts for par - the greens were painfully slow compared to what I'm used to.) 1 birdie, the stupid double and all the rest pars. The yellow tees left me with lots of short irons, way more than I used to have even when I moved from the black tees to the white at 55. On the one hand, I felt bad, on the other hand I heard the young guys saying they had about the same yardage into the green playing from the white tees that I had from the yellow (they no longer use the black for anyone.) I even had a moment on a par 5 where I had 211 which I think I could have reached but over a strand of trees, I believe that I wisely chose to hit 8 iron out to the right and then gap wedge to leave myself a 15 footer for birdie - I don't think I could hit it high enough to clear those trees 80 percen tof the time. It was really fun to get back into it - can't wait to play again next week. I will play this Sunday afternoon at my club which is way tougher - I'd say I'd have been fortunate to break 40 there had I played the same way. fixyurdivot
Mens league today. 40/43 which yielded a T7 for my flight. I stepped up to #18, par 5, with 35 strokes and proceeded to dunk my drive and then shot #4, resulting in the first snowman I've had in about 3 months . GaryF
BLUF: struggling with approach shots, annd scoring irons aren’t. My new Miz JPX923’s that I was fitted for are 3 weeks on order….told there was a 4-5 week back order. Im really looking forward to the new, lighter irons, and struggling with accuracy with my old/current set. On top of that, I was throwing (long toss) a football with grandson 10 days ago. Felt fine but woke up the next morning with what was diagnosed 4 years ago (last occurrence) as a displaced back rib (around T7). The rib head puts pressure on the nerve root, causes pain under the right shoulder blade. Pain wraps around to the front making it difficult to take a deep breath, cough or sneeze. As of a week ago today, I couldn’t swing a club. As of Sat, I took full light swings. Again on Sun but fuller swings. As of Monday, still some discomfort, but played 9. Iron accuracy is all over the place. Not extreme, but miss left, miss right, repeat. Drives were excellent. Played 18 today with minor discomfort. Drives were great with 14/14 FIRs. Irons - miss left, miss right. Mostly easy shots. Good news - I avg 34.4 putts, but today had 30. It was also 90* and we definitely felt the fatigue. Shot 87 that easily could have been 80. DoubleBogeyDad
Shot 41 in my 9-hole men's league tonight. Par 36, course handicap is 8, so that's playing a couple strokes above my head. Ended up winning my match 6-3. A bit of a roller coaster. Back to back doubles, including one from 50 yards out in 2 on a par 5. Reesedw
So I filled in and Played a League Round for my Grandsons team at a local 9 hole course. It is 2 man scramble format. It is more of a fun semi competitive league, a lot of beer drinking.. LOL anyhow we as a team struggle on 1st tee we warmed up and waited on the 1st tee almost 30 min. So we double the first hole, I know.. 2nd hole we bogey.. tough start.. then we reel off 4 straight Pars, ON 7 I uncork a monster drive and am 10" off the green on the drive, end up with birdie, and go Par, Bogey to finish 3 over 10 strokes clear of the other team.. had a great time grandson just played golf instead of trying to beat me, we tried to play as a team.. the kid hits it way higher and way farther then I do. and I can still send it.. Syks7
Did not play well today. Had to WD from a tourney. I tweaked my back last week, felt like it was fine then tweaked it again a couple days ago. It felt okay this morning, but a little sore, but I could bend and pick things up and twist so I decided to give it a go. Long story short, back swing was fine, but the moment I tried to load into my lead leg and come through was where the twinge started. The result was that my lower body would stop cold and I became all arms. I gutted through 9 with a kind of Scotty Scheffler slide (forcing the lead leg load) before I decided I was going to actually injure myself if I continued. The one bright spot was putting. Got up and down a couple times, 'saved' bogey from 25' and 17' respectively and didn't miss from 5 feet and in. 14 putts for the front with no three putts. knightsofnii
9 holes today, birdie 1, 2, 3, and 5. Had a few doubles inbetween, really up and down, walked away with a 2putt par for 39 my 3rd 39 and the first this season I hit more fairways and converted some of those to GIRs, had a 50ft birdie putt, and a holed chip from 3ft off with 30' of roll. Shot of the day? Not sure. A slightly mishit 85yd pitch to 2ft? A 200yd layup downhill with my 7i? The long putt, holed chip, and 2 or 3 drives that felt and went really well. Tugged a few PW shots. I pured one with it on hole 1 but a couple pulls got me in trouble. I may have shot under par if the PW behaved. Popular Post skraeling
Well… this course did not disappoint. Unfortunately the back 9 is under construction/reno so we got to play the front twice. first 9 though had a 47, second time a 49. So net 97 with rental clubs on a new course. I’ll take it. Hell of a rental set. These were absolutely phenomenal clubs. Putter was.. good, but I suck putting so it didn’t matter. Can’t beat this view though. I waved. Dunno if they waved back. scenic as heck. Greens were varied and challenging. modern jets are rather quiet. Popular Post GolfSpy_BEN
37/37 74 +3 This evening was easily my best round of the season. 9 pars, 6 bogies, and 3 birdies. I continue to drive the ball well and without the benefit of shot tracking I would guess I am averaging 280-285 total yards off the tee. I had a number of drives that exceeded 300 yards including a drive of 320 on the par 5 4th hole. This was my best putting round of the season as well. Including a 35 ft par putt on the par 4 2nd, a 40 ft birdie putt on the 7th, and 7 one-putts total. A 3-putt on the par 3 3rd was the only blemish. chisag, ZackS, sirchunksalot and 9 others 9 3 Quote WITB: D: TBD ??? 3w: Paradym 15° Hzrdus 6.0 3h: G430 19° Tour 2/Stiff 4u: T200 Utility Build 24° Hzrdus 6.0 5i: T200 25° Recoil 110 f4 6i-PW: Z 765 28°-46° N.S Pro 1050 gh S 50°: SM-8 54° & 58°: Glide Forged Pro P: Toulon Designs Atlanta Ball: Chrome Tour X Bag: Jones Trouper R stand bag "And so, we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past." - Fitzgerald ” The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.” - Frost "That you are here—that life exists and identity, That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse." - Whitman

JerryB
I'm back, baby!! Several of us decided to take the day off for golf today. Owen and I were joined by our friends Mark and Kevin to play Mill Creek in Geneva. Owen and Mark had never played it before; totally fun course with lots of forced carries and multi-tiered greens. Started a little rough but got my swing situated and played pretty well. Weakened my grip a little on my driver and started hitting them long and straight. Stood a little more upright on everything else and mostly hit them well, too. Putting was alright but once again I had a bunch lip out. The four of us are playing a charity scramble tomorrow and we're looking forward to it after the way we played today. Kevin shot in the low 100s but putted fantastic. Owen and Mark shot in the mid 80s and we're all around pretty solid. I’m good at lags, it’s just those inside of ten feet I seem so good at missing… ... Like everything in sports, a positive attitude is absolutely essential. That said, I get it and it's difficult to have confidence when nothing is going in the hole. However it is a catch 22 and the more you think you will miss will produce exactly those results BUT the more you think you will make it the better your chances are of sinking putts. The first step is learning to love putting. I hear so many say they hate putting and it reminds me of the saying that hating someone is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies. I would suggest keeping a putter and some balls in the car and when driving by a golf course with even 10 minutes to spare, go to the practice green and hit some putts with the thought that it will increase your confidence. You get to putt on different slopes with different speeds and missing a putt doesn't hurt your score while making some can boost your confidence and make putting more enjoyable instead of a chore. Right, and by the time you get there he is gone and nobody believes you Funny you mention ricochets. I hit a shot ... last season, long story short, guy in front of us were jacking around and I got fed up with it so I hit my drive, it ricocheted off the top of their cart, straight down the fairway giving me a wedge into a par 5. Sometimes ricochets work out for you. cksurfdude, GolfSpy_BEN and sirchunksalot 2 1 Quote Driver - Ping G400 9°, Project-X Evenflow Black 6.0S 65 gr. That’s interesting, that’s exactly what my buddies were saying. My self doubt was taking my brain over, and i was fulfilling my doubt. So from 15 on, I started claiming the hole had better watch out cuz I was gunna drill ya! then I actually saved par on 16 with a confident 15 foot bender that walked right in. Finished out unremarkably, but have decided to practice and EXPeCT putts to drop. It’s funny because a 6 year old putting has no fear at all about missing. Dweed
Not sure how I played. I made it thru 5 holes walking in 2 hours and decided the groups ahead were just too slow to wait any longer. 25 min per hole is just too long for me. I’m good at lags, it’s just those inside of ten feet I seem so good at missing… I guess I need to buy a good putting mat or something Putting seems to the part of the game that cycles from good to bad more so than others (at least in my experience). Could the reason be because it's the hardest part of the game? I mean we're generally happy with a 2 putt over 20 feet after having just hit two preceeding shots covering 350+ yards. Looking at it from a stroke to distance ratio, it's bonkers . cksurfdude, Dweed, Sluggo42 and 1 other 4 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Evnroll ER5v Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Currently Under Product Test)

JerryB
Owen and I were joined by our friends Mark and Kevin for the Golf Fore Kids charity scramble put together by the local park district at River Heights today. There were opportunities to purchase mulligans and putting string and the chance to tee off from 90 yards on the longest par five. Because of all that, the winning score was a five way tie with 48 with three others scoring 49. We played really well and shot 51. Really good team effort where everyone pitched in almost equally. Good times all around! cksurfdude, Kenny B, sirchunksalot and 5 others 8 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter
