The 19th Hole
Alright, got to go back out for the 2nd weekend in a row and for anybody who saw my last post I kept the beer to a minimum and the shoes on this time; to much better result. Stayed a bit closer to home and played at Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore, CA. Considering all the time they had without golfers, I was a bit disappointed with the conditions of the course. The greens were a little bumpy, the tee boxes were lopsided and tore up, and the sand traps were half weeds. But considering all that it took a mental breakdown on the last hole to keep myself from shooting under part. I stepped up to the 18th tee @ -1 and took a look at my GPS unit. It is a dogleg left par 5 and it looks like the green would be blocked out on the 2nd shot anyways, so I pulled a 3 wood to lay up off the tee...But my playing partners, whom I got randomly paired with and by now were just about fall down drunk somehow convinced me to pull the driver and try cutting the corner a bit and they assured me I would have an open look to the green. I'm sure you all see what is coming next right?!? Pull Hook OB. Re-tee with my 3 wood and par that ball leading to a Double Bogie on 18 for a 73 on the day. All in all a great day, just a lame way to finish. But this did give me 27/36 holes that I have played pretty decent (the other 9 being the drunk barefoot section that was not really golf on my part) so I went ahead and booked another round for tomorrow morning (with the wife's permission) to go and play a slightly longer course to see if the course was just playing easy or if I actually unlearned all my bad habits while stuck at home. Tomorrow's round will be at Coyote Creek Valley Course in San Jose. Always great to read about people beating their personal best or crossing the 100, 90, 80, or 70 barrier. Learned a hard lesson today. When my husband points and tells me "that's your ball" down in that fluffy grass, I better check instead of blindly trusting. So I hit the wrong ball resulting in a penalty that kept me from breaking 90 a second time. Popular Post mr.hicksta
Played The Golf Club of California today, which is a beast of a track. Course rating and slope are 74.0/139. It was nice to play a new course, but overall it was just 'meh' so I don't plan on going back. 91 (47/44, 90 ESC) - 1 birdie, 4 pars, 8 bogeys, 4 doubles and 1 quad. Yikes. FIR 4/14 (29%) - The course had some tight tee shots, which did not mix well with my unfortunate tendency to get wild off the tee. Ironically enough, I scored better on the back with 4 lost balls. Crazy. GIR 3/18 (17%) - Hard to get GIRs when you're not hitting full shots into greens due to wild tee shots! 28 putts with 9 one putts and 1 three putt. SG putting -1.950. My putting kept my score from being a lot higher, and I was pretty confident on the greens all day. By far the biggest positive on the round! This was a blind shot from 159. Easily the highlight of my round! The courses signature hole, a 188 yard par 3 with a bunker in the green! The beastly closing par 3! cksurfdude, No3PuttLaLa, Kenny B and 7 others 10 Quote LTDx Black 10.5º | UST LIN-Q M40X TSPX Blue 6F4 LTDx 3W 15º | UST LIN-Q M40X TSPX Blue 7F4 G425 3H 19º | UST Recoil Proto Hybrid 85F4 Z785 4-PW | UST Recoil 125 Proto F4 RTX ZipCore Tour Rack 50º Mid, 54º Mid, 60º Mid | UST Recoil Wedge Proto F4 ER5BV | BGT Stability Tour Tour B X

Popular Post tony@CIC
Spent the day in Cleveland with my son and DIL, got home just in time for my wife and I to grab the last tee time at 6:10 to play 9. My driver and wedges were on fire (at least for me). Ended up with a personal best of 41. When GHIN combined that with another 9 hole round I had booked (43). That gave me a combined score of 84! Popular Post edingc
- 38/45 = 83 (+11) - 7/15 FIR - 5/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 31 Putts (2 3-putts , 9 2-putts, 7 1-putts) - 2:45 Round Time This goes down as one of my better rounds ever, and probably my best ball striking round of my life. I struck the ball extremely well on the front with most every club and really only had one or two awful shots. Went to the course with a few new swing thoughts and they really helped. Back nine didn't go as well, still struck the ball well, but got a little hooky and had two shots sail OB left that hurt my score. I started to get tired near the end again, and ended up shanking an approach on No. 16 and topping a drive on No. 18. Remove those two penalties and wasted shots and I had a legitimate chance to break 80. Driver still isn't good at all, but the irons are coming along nicely now. My balance is all out of whack with the driver, and I need to figure out how to not end up with my weight falling forward in my downswing. It's causing all my drives to be off the heel, the good ones being OK cuts or baby fades and the awful ones being low-left spinners. No idea how far my new irons go. 3 times I hit wrong club equaling 3 bogeys. 2 long and 1 short. It was blowing 15+ though. Pretty tough to play in with clubs 2 days old. yungkory, cnosil, Rickp and 9 others 12 Quote Stealth 2+ 9 (Diamana PD 60 S 45") Stealth 2+ 15 (Diamana PD 70 S 43") G425 19 (Raijin 2.0 85x) G425 22 (Raijin 2.0 85x) ZX7 5-9 (KBS C Taper S) Vokey SM9 45 10 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 49 08 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 55 08 M (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 59 04 T (KBS 610) Spider GT Splitback 34" ProV1 #23 Twitter @THEZIPR23 "One thing Golf has taught me, is that my muscles have no memory." GolfSpy BOS
- 38/45 = 83 (+11) - 7/15 FIR - 5/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 31 Putts (2 3-putts , 9 2-putts, 7 1-putts) - 2:45 Round Time This goes down as one of my better round ever, and probably my best ball striking round of my life. 7 one putts! Nice! Was that due to chipping it close? Or did you drain a few long ones?I also tend to favor the heel on drives but have learned to set up favoring the toe at address and firing away. I even spent a few rounds living in the “high-toe” zone last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Largely due to chipping it close. I've gone to using the Maltby PTM GW around the green if I don't need to clear anything and have some green to work with and I've been getting pretty good with it. I am starting to hit more greens than I used to, but I'm still working on getting reasonable length birdie putts. I'm really bummed because the ball I lost on No. 12 (150-ish par 3) I struck really well but I lost it in the sun. Didn't see it drop or hear it drop. Had I been playing with someone I'm sure we would have found it, but I had to assume it went OB left because I looked for about three minutes and didn't find anything around the green. Ended up taking a drop - kind of set the back nine off in a bad mood. I've been setting up off the toe as well, was actually considering going the opposite route and trying some closer to the heel to promote me staying in my posture and not lunging as much. On 18, after the top (which was off low heel), I was basically on my tip-toes. Not going to hit many good shots with weight distribution like that. Also, planning on bringing a water bottle and maybe some snacks for my next round. By 14-15 walking starts to take a toll on me. yungkory, MattF, cksurfdude and 2 others 5 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. The other thing I tried which seemed to help it to focus on the inside corner of the ball and try to hit there. It also helps my *power fade* on occasion. That’s good stuff with the GW! I’ve been working on doing some moreBump and run style shots versus just grabbing my lob wedge when I’m greenside. I’ve had a few real good results and few ones where it’s obviously a work in progress. fozcycle
Anything specific in the back that was screwing you up or just knee and heat? That sounds like a good game. We have I think 11 going up to NH in a few weeks and need some good games to play (not everyone can do 36 full holes a day)Not that I can think of. The week before I had an 81 & 82. Popular Post Jmikecpa
Righted the ship today with a 74 while shooting even par on the front. Didn’t roll the ball great again on the greens so need to put in some work this week to get that sorted. Happy overall with the way I hit it tee to green and just need to work on the short game a bit. Popular Post Rickp
Played early 9 in a slight steady drizzle. Not enough to stop play but just enough to be miserable.Birdie 1st hole so knew I was in trouble, always turns bad after an opening bird.Finished 4 damp over with a downpour for the ride home, swell. Can’t complain we really need the rain.
