Popular Post CarlH 8,629
I haven't been talking much about my game lately. Frankly, I was growing weary of talking about my poor play and I'm sure you guys were tired of hearing my whining Made a bit of a turn today and a little bit of the old me showed up. On the front 9, I was 2 over going into #9 when I hit a poor drive into the fairway trap, a poor shot out, and then 3 putt for a double bogey and a 40 on the front. On the back, I'm 1 under thru the first 6 holes (including the tough Lost Tres Diablos) when I come up short on the par 3, blade a wedge into the back trap, barely get out and two putt for yet another double. Close the back out with a 38 and card a 78 for the round. On the par 3 #4 playing at 163 yards, we had 3 out of 3 birdies for the team (playing low 2 net). The pic below shows the 3 balls -- I was the last to hit and got inside both of them. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut 8,749
Had a great time playing yesterday with @BIG STU at his home course. We didnt keep score and we didn't play our best but had a fun time. I got to see some of Stu's vintage clubs make their way in and out of the bag and I did manage to show Stu what my new driver can do. The weather behaved this time and we got all 18 in. Great to get out with a fellow Spy. It was also nice to have a course tour guide to tell me where to hit, which holes to club up on and such. The course had great layout but did need a little TLC. But value for the money was killer. It helps to know people who know people. The course owners took care of us. Stu decided that walking the course with his Motocaddy would not be in the cards in his future and since I did show a lot of interest during testing he decided to give it to me with the cart bag as well. That was totally out of the blue and shows that kind of guy he is. I was pretty floored with his generosity and he didn't want anything in return. He just wanted a fellow spy to use it. So I might be late to the testing party for this item but be sure that I will either do my review in the comments or unofficial review area. Popular Post cksurfdude 11,425
Before I did something stoopit to myself the other day that will put me out of action for a little while (so this is the last long, boring story for a while ) .. I did get to play a few holes with my wife and friends in the annual community outing where they live. None of us are great golfers so we just decided to play our own informal scramble .. use the best tee shot, best 2nd, best approach. My contributions to the team effort reflected my typical golf round - either awful, brilliant or almost... For example... First tee shot = awful. Low, left into the trees. Not playable. Fortunately one of the ladies put us into a great spot for our 2nd shot! Second tee shot = brilliant. Par 3 about 160ish uphill to an elevated green, can't see the putting surface, pin front-right with a very deep bunker in front. Hit it high and straight and onto the front right part of the green. Then.. we all missed the birdie putt..! Third tee shot = awful. Low, left and short. My second shot was good but an almost as the other guy's was in a better position so we used his. My short approach ended up being the best .. online to the pin, but maybe 20+ feet short so another almost. Fourth tee shot = brilliant. Left the driver in the bag and took the old Bertha Mini and smashed it out there into the dogleg, left-middle of the fairway. My second was another almost - nice trajectory, great distance, just a leettle to the right of the green and into a tough spot to try to get up and down from.... Fifth tee shot = almost. Low, left but it was downhill so got some extra rollout. Other guy's was on the right side of the fairway and again in a much better position for our second. My second = awful (boy it's good to be playing a team scramble when you're not having a great golfing day!). My approach .. another Par 5 .. from the right rough was another almost .. the right distance but pulled left of the pin and ended just off the green. See? A little bit of everything in every golf round But then... I turned back to look at my alignment and swing path; I was standing on a mound facing uphill towards the green and where the ball had been was a little below my feet. Then... something in my left hip *popped*... So I spent the rest of the round driving the cart and drinking a few Buds!! 3 12 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... ..Callaway Big Bertha B21 driver (Recoil ES 450/F3) ..Callaway Bertha Mini 1.5 (UST ProForce V2-HL 5/F3) ..PXG 0211 3H (PX Cypher 50/5.0) ..Callaway Big Bertha 5H (Recoil ZT9/F3) ..PXG 0211 6i-GW (Mitsubishi MMT 60/A) ..Cleveland CBX2 54 and CBX 60 (Rotex graphite) ..EvnRoll ER5 or MLA XDream (..Edel EAS 4.0 on the bench) ..all in a Datrek bag on an MGI Zip Navigator electric cart. Popular Post Alf. S 1,168
Golf this week Turned 61 this year and have intentionally lost a lot of weight down for 213lbs to 175lbs not sure if either have contributed to me struggling with distance also had a bad case of the shanks so changed my grip on Wednesday Thursday Lost 3&2 in the Over 60s 1st Round Matchplay, played OK, no shanks but giving up 5 strokes in 6 holes on 11 to 16, with my opponent birdying his non-stroking 15th did for me, but got HIO. Friday Lost 5&4 in the Club Foursomes. Again no shanks from me but my partner off 3 did! Neither of us played well in windy squally conditions. Neither did our opponents but they did enough. Saturday Medal at club shot 78, out in 2 over. Struggled to get down on the back 9 but game improving. Enough to get a 0.2 cut to 6 dead on. Sunday playing my 1st round of Golf In Scotland Tour at Downfield near Dundee. Struggled all the way round, at 6800yds and with me struggling with distance I couldn't get anywhere near the long par 4s in regulation. Came in with 24 points, 159th out of 170. Only one shank but pretty destructive, put me in ankle length rough behind a tree for at NR at 15 Tuesday was the 1st round of Golf in Scotland over 50s Tour at Ratho Park. James Braid course that off the yellows play 5400. Was playing with a nice couple from Edinburgh and had a really good day. Scored respectfully with my driving letting me down 31 points with 2 blobs, a wayward drive at 2 for a double and a thinned wedge at 10 for a NR. Just a bounce game today, then last of this month's ties (4BB) to play tomorrow evening. The owners and staff at our course are amazing people and they would have treated you and Tim the same way had you not been with or even known me. Yeah I love the place more for the people and atmosphere but I love the course layout. It is nice when you can play a course and not only know the staff and members but residents along the course as well. On the Motocaddy I felt I had not properly gave it a good test even though I tried. It did help me tremendously on my back rehab. Giving it to Tom will put it from one extreme to the other. What I did here was just part of my make up. I have only done 3 tests simply because newer stuff does not appeal to me and I do not want to take away from someone that would actually use the equipment. Of the 3 tests I have done I kept the Precision Pro Range finder and still use it today. The Renegar wedges I stored for a while and then gave them to a guy I know. I am glad Tom will use and further test the Motocaddy. He says he needs to lose 5 lbs but I can not see where but I will defer that to him. 11 9 Quote Driver ---- Honma G1_X Stock tuned Honma R shaft---- 3 wood TM V-Steel Aldila 65G R Flex 15*--- 7 Wood TM V-Steel UST Pro Force 65 R flex 21*---- 9 wood TM V-Steel stock MAS Stiff shaft 24*--- Irons 4 thru 9 Mac Muirfield TT black label R-- PW M-85 Macgregor 48* S-400 Sensicore --- SW Vokey SM-4 51* stock shaft--- LW Vokey SM 5 L grind 58* stock shaft--- Putter -- Original Reuter Bulls Eye Standard---. Would agree with you in that idea of form, I gave up a pull cart for a push cart because of the imbalance on my spine while walking. I even let my push cart run when it is downhill and not going to end up in trouble to walk upright with less strain on the back... sounds like a good investment for those of us with mobility issues even if they are minor. 6 Quote Verified Hack, 23 handicap Golfing for exercise and peace of mind. |> Big Dogs: First StrikeTM Rattlesnake (10.5), Ginty Trouble Club (29) |> Blades: First StrikeTM DeliveranceTM 3(20) 4(23) 5(26) 6(29) 7(33) 8(37) 9(41) P(45) |> Wedges: Worx (55) |> Flatsticks: L.A.B. Popular Post MattWillGolf 2,663
My round started with such promise. A tap in par on the first hole. The round descended into the depths of hell from there. The only fairway found with the driver today was on the first hole. Oh wait. I did find the 4th fairway off the tee but I was playing the 5th hole. My slice returned. My iron play was improved from my last round. I’m making better contact and fewer shots hit thin. I’m absolutely hitting my 4 iron pure. Putting was generally good. Only one 3 putt on the 9 holes and two one putts. My chipping was spotty. I was in greenside bunkers three times and was able to get out to makable range but two putted all three times. 11 2 Quote Ping CB-P226 Hoofer Cart Bag Ping G400 Max 10.5° w/Ping Alta CB PXG 0341 3 wood 15° w/Project X Even Flow Blue Ping G30 19° 3 Hybrid w/Ping TFC 419H Ping G25 4 - UW w/Ping CFS Callaway Mack Daddy CB 54°/14° w/KBS 105 Hi-Rev 2.0 Callaway MD3 58°/9° W Grind w/True Temper Dynamic Gold Evnroll ER11v 34” Evnroll ER11v Official Review Snell MTB-Black or Maxfli Tour Mileseey PF210 Laser Rangefinder Shot Scope Pro LX+ Tester Clicgear 3.5+

Popular Post MDGolfHacker 8,735
I had high hopes going into my league round yesterday afternoon. I thought I worked out most of the kinks after my Hindenburg-esque round last week but there were still some ghosts that showed up. The good news is the long and mid irons are working again and the distance control was spot on for them; enough to potentially get me a closest to the pin on the first par 3 I played. The driver was working for the most part. Not sure what happened towards the end of the round but I hit some really low tee shots (still in the short grass so a great miss!) I really counted 2 lost strokes that were due to the wrong club selection, 2 strokes due to poor wedge distance control (came up short forcing some long putts) and 2 putts that, well, I shouldn't of missed. Putting was decent with some long putts that snuggled up next to the cup. The half way decent round may put me in the running for some points and move me up from my current 28th place in the standings. So now I'm looking forward again to golfing next week! And with my new bag tag from the club. Congrats on the HIO. What a spectacular view and hole to accomplish that on! 10 hours ago, BIG STU said: The pleasure was all mine. Guys that driver is a weapon in his hands and so is his 3 wood. @BIG STUI told you last week privately, but I'll say it here for the forum. You Sir, are a good egg, as honest and sincere as they come. Passing on the motocaddy to Tom is just an incredible gesture. And also, you did the review more than proud, you may not have walked a lot of rounds with it, but your stories on using it at and around the practice facility provided a diffeent and often hilarious take. Love the time you were messing with it from up by the shop while it was on the range and the guys couldn't figure out what was happening...ha It doesn't need to be said, but I will. You are a true ambassador of the not just the site here but the game, and a good reminder for those of us that didn't take it up way back in the days of the way clubs used to be. Dont' get me wrong, I love the modern technology, but thinking back to some of those small headed persimmon drivers I palyed, brings both a smaile and nightmares to mind..ha Well Done Big Stu! 5 9 Quote TSi1 Aldila Ascent 40G shaft TSi2 18 FW with GD AD IZ 6 Shaft TSi1 20 and 23 degree hybrids Aldila Ascent Shafts R T300 5-P Tensei R flex shaft 1/4 long SM8 48F/54/58 D Grinds Tyne 4 ProV1X Play number
