Popular Post Syks7
Played a tough course on vacation. Absolutely decimated my score on 17 and 18 double then triple... Ocean Course Hokuala. 44/45. 134 slope. Amazingly, I did not lose a ball until 18. Then I lost two to the water then 1 putted for a 7. Nastiest finishing hole I think I've played. 430 with a 100 yard water carry to a peninsula green. I pulled my second shot left, bounced off the cart path on the narrow peninsula neck into the water. Now hitting 4. Back over the peninsula neck with a 25 yard water carry. Duffed it. Now hitting 6. Stuffed that to 19 ft and made the resulting putt for 7. Too bad. If I'd kept it to bogey on the last 2 it would have still been a 12 differential at 86! Still though pretty reasonable for a set of rental clubs on a tough site unseen course. I also gave zero balls to the ocean and jungle so there's a positive there. I wish I'd had my putter though. I can honestly say I think it might have saved me 4 strokes. My hatred of Odyssey putter inserts continues. Popular Post Kenny B
Yeah... cooler!! 46º at tee time. We started off #10, which is the easy of the two nines IMHO; much flatter and par 35. After a bogey on #10 I parred the rest of the nine for a 36. Making the turn to #1 it warmed up and layers came off. I managed a par on #1 and birdie on #2, then came a couple of bogeys and a couple of doubles for a 42 on this par 37 nine. So a round of 78 I had my best day in a very long time getting up and down to save pars; some poor drives and bad approach shots left me in not-very-nice spots. My 60º wedge was on fire, sticking shots to within a foot or two time after time. It was actually fun, and I had to laugh!! ejgaudette, Grand Stranded, RichL85 and 10 others 11 2 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
Popular Post Grand Stranded
I’ve been going back and forth between the Cleveland Halo irons and a set of PXG XP irons for months. I had a set of the XP’s, sold them and bought the Halos. I was very happy with them, but when PXG dropped their prices recently, I bought another set. They’re both really good irons, but also very different. The PXG’s are almost a club longer, but the Halos are like a cheat code. Today I played the Halos for the first time since the XP’s arrived, and I broke 80 (77) for the first time in weeks. It made me realize how good they are for my game. As much as I enjoy the XPs, playing one set well is hard enough for me, trying to play well with two seems like an unnecessary challenge, so the PXG’s are going back for a full refund. My bag is almost set now… depending on where I’m playing I can use either the G425 Max 5W or the Halo Hy-wood in between my 3W and 4H. The only spot I really need to decide on is driver. I really like my G425 Max, but I’m going to give the Rogue ST a try, and see how that works out. Popular Post GaryF
Most paradoxical round ever. Haven’t played in 2 weeks, but did hit the range yesterday. 18 mph winds, 50 deg, but unpredictable gusts all day. Hit the best drives, 5w (demo club), 7 w (borrowed wife’s with senior shaft) EVER. On one par 4, I play as a par 5, have never driven closer than 25 yards to the 150 marker, on the tee side. Perfect test for the 5w? Um, no, drive 15 yards past the 150 (crosswind) fir 265 drive. Hit second shot onto the green, then off back side. Was routinely hitting 245. So many second approach shots with 2/3 wedge swings but I couldn’t judge with the wind and most were short. All of us had putts roll off the green at least once. I have studied swings and my swing xtensively and have discovered a lot of clues. Was staying really centered, and maintained moderate tempo. At peak of extension, have extended enough to let the club drop (ultra relaxed wrists) parallel to ground which gives longer swing arc and greater speed. Most importantly, convinced the 5w and 7w will improve my game by 2-3 strokes. EasyPutter
Played great yesterday afternoon, for 2 holes. Was lightly raining when arriving at the course, 1st hole was downwind and everything went straight with a slight fade. 1-putt bogie from a missed chip. 2nd hole into the wind played well again everything working right but rain had picked up as did the wind approaching the green. Overshot the approach and chipped on with another 1-putt through standing water for bogie, +2 for two holes played. Cups were topped ball washers at this point and the rain was heavy so went to shelter under the clubhouse awning to wait for it to go off with another course regular whose umbrella was broken by the wind while he putted out the 1st hole. Rain was torrential at times and wind was gusting, called it a day after there was no letup in the downpour for a half hour. Bang60
Played 9 even par and best 9 holes for quite some time, handicap is 23.9 hoping I'm on the way back with a birdie on the 258metre par 4. The 5th hole 150ish metres is my nemesis hole, it's a elevated green of 5-6 metres and a real Bugger to stay on top as it's alittle narrow and alittle oval . I hate it lol... CarlH
Shotgun start today and I start on #10. Fire a 38 on the front 9. Striking the ball pretty well. Bogeyed 3 of the 4 first holes on the back 9 (the par was on the hardest hole!), then settled down and parred the next 3, miss a short putt for par on #8 for another bogey. Hit a huge drive (for me) on the closing hole, center of the fairway, leaving 155 yards to the pin, fan my iron and it leaks wide into the green side bunker, leaving me a fair amount to carry with not a lot of green to work with. Ball doesn't quite get to the green and I putt from the fringe, hits something and veers high. I have a makable putt downhill to close out, but miss the putt and end the round with my only double bogey for the day. Card a disappointing 80, given how well I felt I was striking the ball. Team won some money, so it's all good. EasyPutter
Used to be consecutive days on the course were sunny and warm, now it is rainy and cold. Today started with getting the push cart out and umbrella up and then getting the golf bag out and loaded, etc. The course was deserted and I had the only vehicle in the parking lot. Perfect time for solitary golf. The first hole was downwind but a mix of rain with sleet or hail helped to drop the ball into a water filled cup for a double. 2nd green was a little wet but the putt still dropped into the cup in one. The rain was relentless again down the 1st fairway with sleet or small hail mixing in at the 1st green turning back to rain on the 2nd tee. Once again great shots in the rain playing with insulated gloves with grip surfaces on the palm and fingers. The 3rd tee shot was a low 8i across the creek that bounded up onto the green for a 6ft lag putt and tap-in. The rain actually went off heading over to the 4th tee and this started the string of singles through the 8th hole. The colors are finally beginning to peak locally as the proximity to Lake Erie actually delays things with the heat it holds in the autumn and the cold it holds in the spring. Finished the 9th hole in renewed driving rain and gusting winds with a double for a 46 +10 or a net 33 at -3 and 1.4 Putts per Hole. sirchunksalot, MattF, Rickp and 6 others 9 Quote Derek Verified Hack, ~25 handicap Golf for exercise and peace of mind. |> Big Dogs: First StrikeTM Rattlesnake (10.5), Tommy Armour TA1 3h (19), Ginty Trouble Club (29) |> Blades: First StrikeTM DeliveranceTM 3(20) 4(23) 5(26) 6(29) 7(33) 8(37) 9(41) P(45) |> Wedges: Worx (55) Lovett (59) |> Flatstick: L.A.B. Popular Post chisag
... Pretty much starting the "I Hate You" season in Phoenix. I was a live in Chicago and AZ hater for many years so I get it. I would like to complain about the over seeded fairways that are shaggy and slow, but the greens are rolling nice and the temps were 86* with 25% humidity. That humidity will start dropping and get to the single digits by next month. Back to the round, I moved up a tee box because of the shaggy fairways so my approach shots were pretty normal distances and I played all the par 3's from the normal tees since fairway roll isn't involved. ...
