Popular Post Kenny B
Well, my BIL from Seattle and my wife and I teed it up this morning. I've been cold the last several rounds since temps in the 40's and low 50's with 10-25mph winds. So today I decided to walk; I stay warmer walking than sitting in a cart, and I get to keep my hands in the cart mitts with a heater while walking. My hands never get cold!! However, I haven't walked 18 holes in 4 years. We've walked 9 holes several times this year, but I thought it was time to see how my legs/feet took all 18 holes. I birdied the par 4 #2 and the par 3 #4 with a bogey in-between on #3; one more bogey on #9 and I made the turn EVEN par. The wind picked up starting on #9 , and I had two more bogeys and an unlucky double on the drivable par 4 #14 on the back nine. My drive ended up in the worst possible spot by the bunker lip left of the green; couldn't get a decent stance; fell on my ass in the goose-poopy grass and took 3 more shots to get on the green then 2 putt. Tweaked my knee a little. 4 over par on the back nine so a round of 76. Missed shooting my age again my 2 months! After the last four rounds in the mid-high 80's, it was nice to see a 70's round again. Warm weather... please get here soon!!!! I may be doing more walking until it arrives. cksurfdude, ejgaudette, Syks7 and 10 others 9 4 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

It's a "never-ending" story. Popular Post Javs
Today was a mud 60’s day with a decent breeze. Hit 15 greens in regulation and made 4 birdies. Two of those I almost made 2 from the fairway with wedges. Bad news is there were 4 bogeys. Nice even par round, but walked away ver disappointed. Had 4 three putts and three more lip outs. I hate slow greens and the course today the greens were grainy and slow. The round that could have been…….. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, Bang60 and 7 others 10 Quote Play like a champion today! Popular Post sirchunksalot
I played nine holes today at Flagstone Golf Course. It was a cool day with a sustained 10 mph wind. I waited until about 2:30 to get out so the temps could get above 40. I shot +17 53. I started out with a quad, I had some issues with ground contact on everything but the driver and putter. I parred the next hole, hitting my tee shot right, chipping up and holing the putt. Altogether I had 2 pars, 2 quads, 4 doubles, and a bogey. Driver was decent, I only hit one terrible shot that was a pull hook on the 6th. The good new was, I didn't lose a ball this round and my misses were manageable. Irons and wedges still need some work, mostly with ground contact and I still had some old habits creeping in. I hit two shots of the day. The first was a putt from off the green on the 4th hole that I pulled and it dropped into the hole for par. That's for you @JohnSmalls. The other was my 3rd shot on the par 4 9th hole from 50 yards out. I hit a nice set GW to 8 feet. I missed the par putt by an inch and tapped in for bogey. My game is slowly getting there, there's still some work to do but it was nice seeing some progress. Popular Post Kenny B
After shooting a 76 yesterday walking 18, I wondered how I would play today... my 4th day in a row!! I decided to ride today, but my wife drives so I could walk whenever I wanted. Colder than yesterday but not much wind until the back nine. On the front nine I had 4 bogeys and one birdie after chunking my 3W 2nd shot on the par 5 #6 hole; followed by a great 9W shot over the pin; birdie putt was about 8 feet. 2 GIR. Score: +3 for a 40. I parred every hole on the back nine UNTIL the par 5 #18. Tugged my tee shot a little and caught the left fairway bunker; 7i out to the dogleg but in a deep grass bunker on a downslope. Punched down the fairway to where I had an awkward yardage between a hard 60º or easy 54º... should have chosen the hard 60º. Hit my 5th shot out of the bunker and missed the bogey putt by an inch!!! 8 GIR. Score +2 for a 37. Popular Post Grand Stranded
My event hot streak continued today in our Tuesday Members league. The temps never got above 45*(wtf?) and 20 mph winds, but I got through it, shot 83 with 3 doubles. That was good enough for low net in our A flight. The last 3 weeks I’ve finished 1st, 1st and 2nd. I finally feel like things are getting back to where I want them to be with my game after a horrible 5-6 month stretch of golf last year. The big difference has all been from 100 yards and in, as my wedge game has mysteriously returned from wherever the heck it went to. It’s amazing how having a little confidence in my short game has freed up my swing with my other clubs, and although my putting has never been my problem, I’m now giving myself much better, shorter looks at the hole and two putting for pars instead of bogeys. Popular Post richk9holes
Hit the local executive par 60. Went out about 5pm. Putting isn't where I want it to be 39 total. Course Handicap here is 7 so a 72 for +5 net is also not what I want. 20+ mph sustained wind for most of it means I didn't actually play too bad. Finished in 2 hours on the dot. Had 2 or 3 chunks from the tee box, not sure what's happening there. Hit the hybrids perfectly at their stated loft. Hit the driver well. Didn't use the 4w all day so it was like carrying 12 clubs. That felt weird I usually have so many options. Not a bad thing, just not normal for me to have a club designated to each yard range with no overlap for a "rescue" or "chipper" or the like. I will buy a 24° utility iron I think. Popular Post Syks7
Much better today not the greatest score but a big improvement over the last few months. 43/44 87 In rainy wet conditions (usually chunk city) at Hansen Dam. Only one double on the card today. #1. A guy let me go before him and I rushed my way down the fairway.could probably have been better if my putting was on, but 34 putts with no three putts is a win for me. Got up and down a few times had a pair of sandies and generally had a good day. I tried a couple things today, the first was to not attempt to hit into the green from beyond 190 yards. I hit whatever layup left me with a good distance I felt confident in. It was a test to see if I was better off playing for higher percentage shots. It worked reasonable well and it felt like I'd taken some pressure off of myself since I was playing for shots I knew I can hit. I don't recall missing the green with any of the post layup shots since many were easy 50 yard pitches. There may be something to this for me. If nothing else I very had to try to hit the green from a terrible position around the green. The second was to integrate the weight transfer/pressure feel from the balance plate I built into a real shot. Either I got really lucky or this is the feel I've been looking for. Crispy ball first contact all day -- even better is that it felt and sounded like I was covering and compressing the ball. Medium trajectory penetrating flight with enough spin to hold the green. It was twilight zone esque. If I'd had better face control I would have had a really good day. I filmed one swing (I got a weird feeling that I might have a chance to knock it in). Alas, it was not the best swing, and it did not go in. PS Enjoy the club twirl fail. Syks7
Two days, identical scores. Just 44/43 this time around at Encino. Not bad considering that I'm not sure they should have let anyone out on the course today with how wet it was. Even walking, it was tough not to do damage in a lot of areas -- and that's with roped off areas with 'new' water hazards. You had to know your carry numbers because there was zero rollout on the fairway and only minimal release on the greens. Contact was not quite as good as yesterday but two days in a row without chunking one is a big win for me this year. It could have been much, much better if I'd put on my big boy pants, realized the greens were criminally slow, and stopped leaving everything short. I had the line, but I never had the speed today. Same deal as yesterday I didn't let myself attack the hole from beyond 190. It resulted in a lot of good up and down opportunities, but there were several instances where I felt like I should have made the shot. The right way is definitely somewhere in the middle of bombs away and this. Next time out I'll let myself pull the long club when I feel confident about it.
