I'm glad that a lot of people seem to feel that way. What made the experience even better is that we were moving super slow so we just joined a few other people and they were happy to let him tee off with us and wait for him to putt.

Exec 9 wit the Boyz, a blast as usual.  Focus mostly was PXG 0311XF driver and a new Tour Edge 5 hybrid.  I only had 2 par 4’s to try the PXG driver and it was all good, about same distance as old driver but had a nice feel and baby fade.   The Tour Edge 5h was a surprise, felt really nice, straight and a bit more height than the Cally Steelhead 5h.  The Cally has been a great hybrid but it’s starting to look a bit ragged.  
Not playing until Monday and limited with some Doc appointments next week.

Played ok today at Cream Ridge GC. Very inconsistent. 43 on the front was not legit. I gave myself the 3rd putt on #8 after my 2nd rolled 4 ft past. Also, Birdie on par 5 #9 I cheated, flubbed a 4w from a bad lie and decided I was going to give myself a mulligan and sit it up on a tuft for some winter rules action. 215yd to within 15ft on the 2nd try. 2 putted and put a birdie on the card, but we know the truth. The back 9 I fell apart. 3 balls OB from the tee, 2 others behind trees. The 48 I carded on the back was legitimate. I tried to cheat on 1 hole, but hit a 2nd drive OB and just played my first from behind trees.

Update: on further inspection, I'm suffering from high expectations. I rarely put a clean 9 holes together at the courses I play often, so I shouldn't expect to go out on this course for the first time in 6 months and be aces. I was playing with 3 guys who were all members and play there often, silly to compare myself to them but I did it the whole round.

The 1st hole I drove into trees, lay up with a 4w but went across the fairway behind another tree. Had to lay up again. Short with an AW, on in 5 2 putted for double bogey. Right from the start, bad targeting had me out of my game.

I settled in and played #4-11 at +2 (-5 net) although as stated above I cheated to birdie #9. That's what I should take away as a positive. I did play well for that 8 hole stretch. +17 on the other 10 holes we'll pretend someone else played.

What a great day for golf!!  Well, except for the 4.5 hour round because it was the Men's Club Opening 2-person scramble tournament in front of us.  The sun was out and after a 1.5 hour frost delay, it warmed up to 63º by the time we finished.  For once I played a round and didn't feel chilled.

Made 3 bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at 40.  Had one bogey and one birdie on the back nine to shoot an EVEN par 35 and a total of 75.  Shot my age again!  

I felt pretty good about today's score because the pins were tucked in some tough spots for the tournament.  It was my best ball striking round, maybe ever!!  Hit 12 GIR but only 9 fairways, which is low for me.  However, the fairways missed were only just off and lies were decent.  My only problem was that while I was on the greens in regulation, I had very long putts; except for the lone birdie...just not really makable.

Pretty poor from me today. My usual score on this 9 hole course is a 39 or 40, so a 44 and 45 aren’t great. My driver was, for once, working well, but my putting was bad. “Only” 6 3 putts, but some of the 2s should have been single putts too. Not doing my regular 10 minutes a day on my putting matt for the last couple of weeks has finally caught up with me. Lesson learned!

Starting to find my game or maybe just getting used to the new course. Still coming up a little short but I’m working on it. Chipping was very good leaving me with very reasonable putts. I was able to make two birdies, two bogies, and the rest were pars. It was nice to shoot even par. First solid round of the year.

Got to shoot the breeze with the golf pro after my round and showed him pictures of the progress on the golf green. He offered up top dressing whenever I need it and also said they just got a new cup setting tool and said I can have one of the old ones. Boy this keeps getting better. He said he was also a licensed chemical sprayer and would come over and spray whatever product my green needs. Such nice people in my new area.

Sounds like you've gotten into your groove, good round! I can imagine the lower altitude is affecting your yardages just a smidge. 

It's cold that your pro offered you a cup setting tool, it's nice to hear you've got some good people in your new area.

Chilly and windy to start but overall I felt like I hit the ball pretty well; better than the score reflects.  Distance is way down; I guess due to the cold temps...high today was 45 and before we started my fingers were pretty cold.    Short game wasn't great and when I hit the green I seemed to be in a really bad spot which resulted in 5 3-putts.

Not a good day today.  The weather turned; cloudy, breezy and temps about 10º colder than yesterday.  My hands never really got warm.  Shot 41/39 for a difficult 80.  Spent the day scrambling around the course saving some pars and… not!  It didn’t help that the round took 4 hours and 20 minutes; our foursome waiting on nearly every shot.  

Want spring to get here with warm temps soon!!!

had a Veterans Golf Assoc. tourney scheduled for yesterday, temps at 9Am were in the upper 20s with 10-15 mph winds. It didn't get above the frost line until afternoon., not sure they even played it. That's not golf weather, that's deer hunting stuff right there. Would the course even allow their greens to be trampled at those temps?

Courses near me don’t allow people on the course until after the frost is gone.

Had a really surprisingly great round (for me) that has me doubting everything I've read about club fitting and new technology.

Card below but.....I was a round at my old home club while back in Ireland for a weekend game with my brothers.  I was playing with a set of clubs that was very assorted.  My irons were a set of DCI 990s I left at home a few years ago, from 2003 ish.  My driver was a Taylor made burner in 9.5 that I'd bought on ebay about 8 years ago.  The putter was my nephews, pulled out of his bag that I had time for roughly 15 mins of pootling around the putting green with.  

I had my best ball sriking day of the last few YEARS.   I was shaping my irons more or less as desired, and while I missed a few putts early on, I holed a bunch of clutch putts coming in to finish 4 over gross.....

Super happy with the day, less happy to have pointless spent about 2-3k on fitted Irons, woods and putter over the last 3 years!!!!

regarding you comments on fitting; clubs cannot be measured by a single shot, round, or possibly even season depending on how many rounds you play a year.   Having the right clubs in your hands will potentially lower your scoring floor and ceiling.  It’s also possible that those clubs were pretty well fit for you.   The results of Fittings are a difficult thing to assess.

Yup I know, I'm being a little tounge in cheek on it.  I was very happy with the fittings at the time, but since then I've also worked on my speed and I think my swingspeed is now back to what it was when I used to play a lot more (and was younger!), so its reasonably likely my flex profile etc will have changed since.... The shafts in the old set were all pretty stiff or certainly stiffer than i was more recently fitted for, so I may go for a tweak with my guy.

Played my local course, which we play 3 times a week. Played a scramble with my wife and another couple. I live outside Phoenix and get most people would like to play all year around, which we do. Everyone thinks Phoenix area courses are always hard and fast. However, we usually play in the morning, and the course is usually soaked and fairly soft. Yesterday, we played in the afternoon. My drives were a good 25 yards longer. We shot 4 under. Fun times. 4+ hour round though. We are used to 3+30 rounds.

... What is your home course? This year has been the wettest/coldest most locals can remember so even the courses that are usually hard and fast in winter are playing much softer this year.

I played sawgrass a week after the 2021 tourney. What a joy. It helped that they cut the rough so the first cut wasn’t too bad. My caddie Kenny was spot on. No gps needed. It was a real treat. Yes I parted the 17th. 
going back in July this year. Nice that they also have military discounts. 
also played Beth page black. Another treat with a caddy 3 days after their bar keys tourney a few years  ago. No didn’t play from the black. Did play one up from them though. As we did at sawgrass.

You've got the top 2 of my bucket list!!!! I'm jealous- but at the same time I'm happy for you to be able to experience those great courses
