richk9holes
Played Hanover GC for the 1st time. 35 min from my house, Happy to report I found another nice affordable option with a design that suits my game. Riding for $21 was great. 3 w/2 who booked together meant I got my own cart. Pace was moderate at 4 hours on the dot for the round, 11:30 to 3:30. Left plenty of time to assess everything, perhaps overanalyze in places and practice putting on a few green where we saw a backup at the tee ahead of us. 41-43 for +13 84 is good for a 1st time course. Clean front 9 I'm very pleased with. Had to scramble and putt well for that number. How I finished w/ 84 leads me to think I can add this to the "potential break 80" list. 3x 3 putt on the back after none on the front. Last coming on #18 when I hit perfect driver into wind, tested water 180 to clear unsuccessful on the 2nd shot w 4w (big dumb cajones), dropped hit 4th shot short. You'd think I'd account for the wind at that point. Then 3 putt for 8 to finish with 84. I know how the better players feel on their "what might have been" rounds. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, ejgaudette and 6 others 9 Quote Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks '23 Forum Tester: Elixir Golf Ball WITB:TS2 10.5° @ 11.25° Tensei blue AV 55 R graph•917f2 15° @ 16.5° Diamana blue x5ct dialed 70 R graph•Stealth 22° Ventus red 6 (non-velo) R graph• 699u 2i 17° tgi 70 R graph•24° Tour v 90 black pvd R steel•699 6i-PW Tour 110 black pvd R steel• SM8 50°/08° @ 52°/10° SM8 stock steel• Jaws Full Toe 56°/12° DG Spinner TI steel • c series DW 2.0 slant neck stock steel•Phantom 2 gps•Tour v3 rangefinder•Elixir golf ball•
Popular Post MattWillGolf
On a buddies trip to Myrtle Beach. My first round of golf since November. The driver was a slice-o-palooza. I made the switch to my 3 wood and started finding fairways. We play the West Course at Myrtle Beach National. The greens were fast and the flags were on some nasty slopes. If you were above the hole, putting was treacherous. Oh and it was 42 degrees at tee time. Popular Post Javs
Today was 49 degrees and we had a steady 15 mph wind with gust to 25. Needless to say it was challenging. However, layered up and manned up ready to play our Monday money game. Hit it solid all day. However, had 5 bogeys. The good part was it was offset by 4 birdies. Shot a 1 over 73. Bad part my partner didn’t hold up his end and we lost today. Shooting 1 over and loosing stings! MattF, richk9holes, Kenny B and 8 others 8 3 Quote Play like a champion today! I mean, in the Phoenix area, 320 days of great golf weather a year so playing in the rain is bupkis if you want. Playing since 1981. Blue skies and sunshine 95% of the time. It was so dry and the courses were hard and fast but the rest of the course looked like a dusty spaghetti western. This year it is lush and green everywhere and even the "dormant" rough isn't dormant, it's green-ish. But I hear ya about the rain. My last 2 Mays in Chicago were the wettest in history and I probably played 10 rounds max in those 2 months. They couldn't cut the rough and a ball 2" off the fairway had to be stepped on to find out so lots of good drives turned into lost ball so I really shouldn't complain about a little rain every now and then that is helping the reservoirs and aquifers in a desert. cksurfdude, ejgaudette, sirchunksalot and 1 other 4 Quote Cobra 50th Anniversary Member Special Challenge/Testing Bag (Link Here) Driver: Stealth2 HD 10.5* ... May was always a wet month but 2018 - 2020 was insane. "For the third year in a row, Chicago has set a new record for wettest May, notching 8.3 inches of precipitation to date, with nearly two weeks left in the month to pad the lead over the former record of 8.25 inches in 2019, which, in turn, toppled the record of 8.21 inches set in 2018". cksurfdude and sirchunksalot 2 Quote Cobra 50th Anniversary Member Special Challenge/Testing Bag (Link Here) Driver: Stealth2 HD 10.5* ... Popular Post Triple_Putt
First real round of the year. Shot a 95 where I was hoping for a 90. Oh well. A lot of stupid mistakes and triple putts where I felt I could have done better but was rushing myself in the moment. Only 1 birdie on the day, 15th hole Par 4 landed it here off the tee… then proceeded to 2 putt it in. Felt like my driver was the only thing working well for me today, putting was terrible and my iron choices were either wayyy long or short. Plenty more to improve on now that we are seeing temps in the 60’s briefly in the afternoons for the foreseeable future! Popular Post MaxEntropy
It's always fun to be able to start participating in this thread again.... League started tonight. Even though I haven't touched a club in about 4 months, everything was pretty good. 3 pars, 5 bogies, and an eagle for a +3 (38). The eagle came on a par 5 with a temp tee box that only shaved about 20-30 yards off the length, but more importantly, it allowed me to cut the corner of the dogleg a bit. I didn't intend to, but that's what happened. Stuck a 6 iron from about 165 to 4 feet and buried the putt. Driver was good. Irons were solid contact but I pushed a few wide. richk9holes
Happy with the way I played at Mercer Oaks East. First time playing here, avoided any trouble from the tee and that helped. Only blowup hole was a par 3 triple on #12, tee to sand to still in sand to long putt to bad lag. I made it 11 holes with 4 pars, 7 bogeys and not many putts made outside 3'. After the triple I focused big time, hit 4 of 5 fairways and the 170yd par 3 #16 gir. Finished the final 6 holes at +1, with a couple 10-15 ft putts dropping, including a 15' to finish the day at 43-40 for 83, 35 putts, 11 of 14 FW hit, only 7 gir which means my 52° and 56° were on all day. Another what might've been round, lots of positives to take away. The tee shot on #12 was 4 yards from being on the green, but went straight and drifted left with the wind. A 6 there could've easily been 3 if I didn't aim at the left side but rather targeted the front of the green. Popular Post Grand Stranded
Way too much good news in here, let me spoil the mood. As @MattWillGolf will surely attest, it was another really cold day down here. A frost delay in the middle of March? Ugh. After winning 3x and taking 2nd the last 4 weeks in my Tuesday members league, I birdied 2 of the first 6 holes on the Love Course in Barefoot. I actually thought to myself “my days of struggling on a golf course are over!” Hah! Not so fast, Johnny boy. The wheels came off on the back 9 and I closed my round with a triple bogey 7 on 17 followed by a “I’m picking up, give me a 10 after dunking my second ball in the water on 18. At that point, it didn’t matter whether I finished or not. I crawled in with my tail between my legs, finishing with a 93. After a few scotches in the clubhouse, I was numb enough to not care. I’ll chalk today up to one of those days we have that keeps us humble. On a happier note, I never thought I’d successfully replace my Yes! Tracy putter, but a few months ago I bought a Cameron 5.5… this thing is amazing. I love it. (Wait… I didn’t just jinx myself again, did I?)
