Popular Post CarlH
Played 18 with my regular group, then played another 9 with my wife and another couple .... 41/40/38. (Front 9, Back 9, Front 9). The group played a very odd game today.....3 man teams playing 2 best net, with a caveat -- if all 3 players made net par or better, you could carry one over to a later hole. Carryovers were also cumulative. We built up 2 carryovers, but had to use both of them on #7. Used another carryover we'd earned on # 17 and ended up with 2 carryovers. Problem was, we were making net pars and not enough net birdies to shoot -4 on the front and -2 on the back (-6 for the total) and didn't place on any of the bets. My team's scores were my 81, then an 88 (10 handicapper) and a 95 (17 handicapper) from my partners. The course is still fairly wet, but we were off the cart path for the first time in a long time, and the wind was a 1-1&1/2 club effect most of the day. Anyone know why the wind always seems to be in your face regardless of which direction the hole faces? If you played both #13 and #14 well, that is a major accomplishment! 13 always seems to play longer than the posted yardage, and 14 is feast or famine for me (usually famine). That hole requires a draw with a fairway wood off the tee …. but not too much of a draw, and certainly not a pull or a hook into the woods. Any shot more than 175-180 yards down the middle will end up in the right rough or even worse down the hill toward the 2nd hole and will be totally blocked by the dense woods to the right of the fairway. It’s true that holes 15 and 16 offer the opportunity to score well, and you need to take advantage of that opportunity because 17 can be absolutely brutal (another hole where everything rolls severely to the right side and usually into the trees. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and richk9holes 3 Quote Driver: Callaway Paradym X, 10.5* with HZRDUS Black Gen 4 6.0 shaft 3/4-Wood: Tour Edge Exotics C722, 15.75* loft, 42.5” long, Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 82-S Hybrids: Callaway Paradym X, 18* with HZRDUS Red 80 6.0; Sub 70 939X 4-hyb. Popular Post Jim Shaw
played today, 1st. day this week as the grandkids are off for spring break so I have been spending some time with them, anyway, I went to my coach on sunday and today I got to work on "emulating David Duval's swing and Annika Sorenstam's swing" and quit "flipping" my hands through the shot. I would say I was 30% successful which I am fine with, I hit a lot of shots thin but in the correct direction so managed to get up and down quite a bit, sunk some great putts, missed some as well, but ended up with a two over 74. I know that when I work out heavier before a round it doesn’t help my golf game. I like to get in a good stretching and flexibility workout with some light work with my Indian clubs to loosen up the joints, plus a bit of core and glute work before a round, but I skip any medium to heavy weight workouts on a golf day. sirchunksalot, Jim Shaw and cksurfdude 3 Quote Driver: Callaway Paradym X, 10.5* with HZRDUS Black Gen 4 6.0 shaft 3/4-Wood: Tour Edge Exotics C722, 15.75* loft, 42.5” long, Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 82-S Hybrids: Callaway Paradym X, 18* with HZRDUS Red 80 6.0; Sub 70 939X 4-hyb. Popular Post GaryF
I have written about some of my recent struggles the past month in the ‘practice’ thread. Been a lengthy slump covering the gamut - drives, irons and putting. Wedges have been good and my 58*/8* growing into a savior. Fir a long time, my driver has been my strength before it went on a hiatus. I’m streaky with irons and could never articulate what I’m doing right when they were good, or what I’m doing wrong, when they are bad. Putting - just need to get some coaching - I avg 34.5 putts/round. Recently have had a lot of range sessions, convinced of some mechanical issues that I’m working on with specific fixes. I played a couple times last week and at times felt I’m making progress, but a ways to go. I spent Sun, Mon, and yesterday back at the range, sticking to my plan and feeling things are starting to work. Played 18 today - sunny skies, soft breeze, high 60s. Shot 41/40 for an 81. Drives were solid with 10/13 FIRs. Only 6 GIRs but that is misleading with 7 other approaches that were just off the green or maybe up to 5 yards off. I had 5 up/downs (4 with my 58*). 9 pars and 1 birdie. Irons significantly improved. Putting is improving - 13 putts on the front, 18 on the back for a total of 31 whereas my avg is 34.5.Had several missed 4-5 footers. But feeling really good about today.
