How'd you play?

@funkyjudge my last trip to that direction was Mountain View, loved that setup as well. I don't get many undulations like that around the flat area by the shore. I was inconsistent but managed in the 80s, 89 maybe.

If you are talking about Mountain View, a tornado took down about 20-30 trees there a couple years ago. Still, there are more than a few trees between holes 14 and 15 that I would love to see gone!

First outdoor 9 hole round (any round) since November 12th last day before closedown of last course open in WNY, March 22 had some great shots, a couple good holes and only 1 lost ball.  I could gloat that I shot below my age but a 60 for 9 holes isn't anything to cheer about, maybe I shouldn't even mention it 🤔

All kidding aside, rough start to 2023 but it was golf, it was fabulous to be on course, and joined 3 other kind hearted men for a most respectful and enjoyable round.  Game is definitely ON and destined for better rounds to come ⛳

202303223rdgreenCazGC.jpg.a57c9fd47d9361ee046cfda53da356b9.jpg

53F, slow greens, persistent westerly winds, complete overcast, will definitely take this over every day of the year before this so far.  Lots of tree damage on the course from the heavy snow storms that rolled through about every 3 weeks since Thanksgiving.

Any round of golf is a great round. I'm glad you were able to play your first of many rounds today and it sounds like you had a fun time on the course.

#15 my 235 yard drive was the best of the day, paid it off with 5h in to the middle and a lag for par. #13-16 was my best stretch, +1 on those 4, -2 net.

If you played both #13 and #14 well, that is a major accomplishment!  13 always seems to play longer than the posted yardage, and 14 is feast or famine for me (usually famine). That hole requires a draw with a fairway wood off the tee …. but not too much of a draw, and certainly not a pull or a hook into the woods. Any shot more than 175-180 yards down the middle will end up in the right rough or even worse down the hill toward the 2nd hole and will be totally blocked by the dense woods to the right of the fairway.

It’s true that holes 15 and 16 offer the opportunity to score well, and you need to take advantage of that opportunity because 17 can be absolutely brutal (another hole where everything rolls severely to the right side and usually into the trees.

Yup, #13 I took driver into a crosswind from 205yd. Ended up on the back fringe, almost made the 25' birdie. #14 driver 4w 7i all good strikes 7i to a sand trap, but a good out good lag for bogey. Par par on 15-16. 16 played at a perfect 7i for me that day.

I also got on the course about an hour after a heavy weight session...probably didn't help and likely explains the occasional shank I suffered from.

Good point on the weights. I usually find that lighter weights and more reps or swimming on golf days is better than a heavy session. Worse is a heavy leg day prior to playing..

Play like a champion today!

I know that when I work out heavier before a round it doesn’t help my golf game. I like to get in a good stretching and flexibility workout with some light work with my Indian clubs to loosen up the joints, plus a bit of core and glute work before a round, but I skip any medium to heavy weight workouts on a golf day.

The weather hasn't been great here in the UK so not been playing or practicing much 😞 Did get out for a round on Friday last week and played really well all things considered.

My wedge game was on fire and ended up with 3 birdies and a total of 11 over which is 3 under my playing HC.

Hopefully more of the same once I get going properly this season. Want to get to single figures (and stay there) so that I can enter the club champs later in the year...

entering the club championship is a good goal... good luck

OK then. Rain in the forecast. Went anyway. I mean, in the Phoenix area, 320 days of great golf weather a year so playing in the rain is bupkis if you want. Playing since 1981. I have had 3 albatross on par 5, to many eagles on par 4 and 5 to count made insurance money on 2 holes in one. My last goal in golf. Shoot my age. Yup, it happened today. I drink about once a quarter but I am sitting here drinking Drambuie out of my Viking mug. Oooo-rah. Sweet 70. 17 pars and a birdie. And before you say it, there were a couple of lucky shots but about time it swung my way. The rest was pretty golden. I've been swinging everyday out on my mat on the back porch and the swing is pretty damn good. CHEERS!
