Played better today and all was pretty good.

still missed 3-4 makable birdie putts within 10 feet- I’m just not a good putter, and I really need to get serious about improving that aspect. I’m good at lags, it’s just those inside of ten feet I seem so good at missing…

I guess I need to buy a good putting mat or something

... Like everything in sports, a positive attitude is absolutely essential. That said, I get it and it's difficult to have confidence when nothing is going in the hole. However it is a catch 22 and the more you think you will miss will produce exactly those results BUT the more you think you will make it the better your chances are of sinking putts. The first step is learning to love putting. I hear so many say they hate putting and it reminds me of the saying that hating someone is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies. I would suggest keeping a putter and some balls in the car and when driving by a golf course with even 10 minutes to spare, go to the practice green and hit some putts with the thought that it will increase your confidence. You get to putt on different slopes with different speeds and missing a putt doesn't hurt your score while making some can boost your confidence and make putting more enjoyable instead of a chore.

Funny you mention ricochets.  I hit a shot ... last season, long story short, guy in front of us were jacking around and I got fed up with it so I hit my drive, it ricocheted off the top of their cart, straight down the fairway giving me a wedge into a par 5.  Sometimes ricochets work out for you.

That’s interesting, that’s exactly what my buddies were saying. My self doubt was taking my brain over, and i was fulfilling my doubt. So from 15 on, I started claiming the hole had better watch out cuz I was gunna drill ya!

then I actually saved par on 16 with a confident 15 foot bender that walked right in. Finished out unremarkably, but have decided to practice and EXPeCT putts to drop. It’s funny because a 6 year old putting has no fear at all about missing.

Not sure how I played. I made it thru 5 holes walking in 2 hours and decided the groups ahead were just too slow to wait any longer. 25 min per hole is just too long for me.

Putting seems to the part of the game that cycles from good to bad more so than others (at least in my experience).  Could the reason be because it's the hardest part of the game?  I mean we're generally happy with a 2 putt over 20 feet after having just hit two preceeding shots covering 350+ yards.  Looking at it from a stroke to distance ratio, it's bonkers .

Owen and I were joined by our friends Mark and Kevin for the Golf Fore Kids charity scramble put together by the local park district at River Heights today.  There were opportunities to purchase mulligans and putting string and the chance to tee off from 90 yards on the longest par five.

Because of all that, the winning score was a five way tie with 48 with three others scoring 49.  We played really well and shot 51.  Really good team effort where everyone pitched in almost equally.  Good times all around!

I started playing again early last year after a long break, and it took so long to find a rhythm and putting stroke that worked for me, but having a putting mat really genuinely helped with that. I just kept putting over and over and trying various things with my hand position and how I gripped the putter til I just hit a point that my hands were comfortable and steady, and I had a smooth, repeatable stroke that felt consistent. From there I just practiced that stroke daily, so now on a course I don't even think about it, I just line up and putt.

Got out after working a little more than 1/2 day, and the weather was blue skies, sunshine, and about a 15-20 mph breeze.

Had to start on the back 9, as they had leagues scheduled for the front, and I would be able to be in the clear of them by the time I made the turn.

Was paired up with a couple other men, younger than myself, and SWMBO did come along to ride and see the sights.

Highlight of my round was a birdie on my first hole, number 10. A 365-yard par 4 where I hit driver, PW to 15 feet right of the flag and drained the putt.

Left a few other birdie putts on the edge or just by the hole without the ball taking the break I played for.

Had another consistent 40 - 40 for an 80 total, with 13 of 18 fairways, but only 9 of 18 greens.

Most shots that missed the green were too long, not by much but a lot of them were in-between club yardages for me, and I felt more comfortable taking the longer club and making what I thought would have been an easier swing.

Still, this is my 5th full round in Michigan before the end of June, which puts me way ahead of the limited time I was able to play last year.

More information to come later but set a PB today with a 99. Shot a 46 on the front and that included a 9 on one Par 5, and almost blew it on the final three holes. Opportunities to play much better but still managed to break 100!

42/38 at Desert Springs this morning - with four 3 putts .  I did make several good one putts to help offset those but was grousing at myself for letting another sub80 round escape. Three foursomes today playing 6/6/6, 2 net odd, 3 net even and extra points if everyone on the team makes a natural par or better.  With the various handicaps, that can be fun trying to keep track off.  We only managed getting the extra point on one hole of the four we had no kicks.  These guys definitely come up with some interesting games. We all won our $10 back, so that was better than we thought. Really nice day with temps about 8 degrees cooler than average.

Pretty happy with my round overall this morning while I am continuing on my quest to get myself consistently below 90. Today went fairly well with a 43/46 for an 89. Bogeys on holes 1-7 had me telling myself that keeping the doubles off the card is the important part. All it takes is one par with all those bogeys to get below 90. Ended up with pars on 8 & 9 to give myself a little cushion before the turn and then back to bogeys for 10-13.

Got into a touch of trouble on 14 with a tee shot that went a bit right and slightly behind a tree. I thought that I was clear of the branches with my second shot but I caught one that sent my ball back to the ground. Poor strike on the third left me short of the green and I finished the hole with a chip and two putt for a double bogey. Bogeys on 15 & 16 followed by another double on 17. That meant that I had to par 18 to stay below 90. Decent drive followed by a pitching wedge from 125 yds left me with about 25' to the hole. I was able to make the two putt to save the 89 which made the whole round good in my eyes.

My oh My!!  What a round of golf today!!  My wife and I were joined by 2 regulars at the club since we didn't have a foursome.  Tee time was 7:02 and it was chilly and breezy; 60º.  I had a light vest in my car that I put on and wore it all day.  So the tale of the tape??

Front nine:  45, not bad when you consider I had TWO triple bogeys.  I did birdie the par 5 #9...  the #1 handicap hole.
Back nine:   37, started with bogeys on #10 and #11 and finished with a bogey on #18, but birdied #14.  I missed makable birdie putts on #12, #13, #15.

So finished with a 82, and I was thinking what it could have been without the blowup holes.

Played 8 holes of bogey golf with a triple tucked in there. Tee game was solid, but some bad turf interaction taking deep divots on approach shots. 

Wedge play was above average putting slightly below average. Not much luck all day. 46 on the par 35 is worse than my best effort by a whole stroke per hole.
