Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Got out to the course this morning and I didn’t realize how foggy the course was going to be. So bad that the laser rangefinder was useless. It was the first time I had to manually figure out yardages as my GPS watch was at home. I was off a bit on the front 9 so there were a couple bogies mostly due to hitting approaches long. I had one birdie on the front. The fog burnt off by the time I started on the back 9 and it was mostly par golf except for this approach shot. For those unfamiliar with this situation the ball must rest in the bottom of the cup to be considered holed. The greens keeper did not insert the flag fully. I had to straighten the flag for the ball to fall. If I didn’t and picked it up then I would have had to place the ball on the lip and putt it. Knowing the rules helped save a stroke. Eagle instead of a birdie was a big help on the score card. With the bird on the front and eagle on the back it brought me back to even par for the round. Now ... walk 10 feet and back and do all those things I just described". They either couldn't even start or they walked very slowly and disjointedly. "That's what changing your swing is like. You can't think about walking and walk smoothly at the same time. Same is true for your golf swing. What usually happens with every golfer is sooner or later we begin to over do the change. This is one of the reasons Pro's have swing coaches to catch them before it become a problem. I love watching a Tour on the range and his coach moves his hands at address about 1/2" up or down. If left unchecked those hands might continue to creep over time. For us am's it is usually a pendulum effect where we go too far in one direction and then correct and over time go too far in the other direction. But when we are in-between, magic happens. Everything goes so fast with so many moving parts it is impossible to own the same swing day in and day out, but the player that institutes a change that stays with them is really priceless. Popular Post ParFore74x
Played at a course on Friday that I had never been to. One of the not-so-great rounds for me this year with a 49/49, 98. I really can’t even say what went wrong other than, everything. I was with two other guys and we were using carts which I rarely do. I was the solo cart and I think that I just never really relaxed. The course was really busy, tons of distractions. Fairways were tight and narrow so I was reluctant to pull driver on quite a few of them. 3 wood and 4 iron did a lot of the tee work which was ok but second shots were getting me into trouble more often than not. Oh well, onto the next round. GaryF
Played today and had the potential for a very good score. Very hot and humid, and including range warm up, I changed to my 4th glove on the 10 tee. Front 9: 6/7 FIRs and 4 GIRs. Mix of some very good shots and a few just misses. Shot 40 with 5 pars, 4 bogies - no doubles and no 3 putts, 2 one putts. The 2 one putts the result of very good approaches that just missed the green so GIRs we’re still better than my 39% avg. Back 9: tee #10 shot went about 75 yards, and driver head about 73 yards. Callaway Fusion Driver with a UST Recoil 450 ES F3, and the break happened in the middle of the adapter. Hoping and praying it can be repaired as 1) I love this driver (84% FIRs, avg carry of 215, 2250 spin with avg 94.2 SS; 2) I just replaced all of my other clubs with no intention of replacing the driver; 3) driving to MI one week from tomorrow (Mon) with plans to play. The nxt 2 holes I moved up one tee box and used my new 5w, then on #12, the lightning sirens sounded. If my shaft can’t be reused, any suggestions on a replacement? The one that broke is no longer available and UST no longer makes Recoils for woods. It’s 56g with mid-high launch. 5.7* torque. rkj427
@GaryF regarding the shaft, you may want to check out Callaway Pre Owned site and see if they may have one. If they do, and you get it, and then the other is repairable, you will have a spare and no worries if it would happen again. Just my thoughts............................ Popular Post FallenSaber
Overall, not my best 9 holes. Hitting from the tee box absolutely killed me. Even when I dropped from the driver to my usually trusty 3 wood, I couldn't seem to make good connection, except for 1 hole where I got decent connection and 214 yards out of it. What saved my round was my 5 iron. Before, I was maxing out at about 160/165 with it but today, I was knocking it 175-180. I feel like my iron game has improved a lot recently and I've consistently added 10-20 yards over my prior averages. My hybrids are confusing me because the ball just seems to die in the air. It was also a clouds and humid morning on the course. Popular Post Shapotomous
Played 13 tonight before running short on time. The course was crowded enough that jumping around to get in all 18 was not possible. I am glad to see the folks that own the course get the amount of play but it is cramping my late evening play! I hit it pretty well again with 3 birds, 2 bogeys and the rest pars. I practiced some more with the new to me cleveland 58* and i need a little more heel relief...i will head out to the grinder in a bit. I alao need to tidy up the lead tape on the 2h. I changed my putting stroke a little to slightly mimic brian harman. They were dissecting it on GC and showed his slight wrist hinge on the way back and the slight release at impact. I had been playing around with it in the backyard green since the Open and took it to the course tonight. I had much better speed control than i had in a while. I think i will game this stroke for a while and see how it plays long term. Popular Post cksurfdude
Wife and I played 18, riding, with two other long time friend couples she's been trying to arrange a game with for a while .. unfortunately the two other women have health issues and are unable to walk the course but it was nice to see them out there having fun! I didn't play that well overall but did play relatively umm .. steady .. is the word that comes to mind. Some mistakes, a few pars, but no horrible blow-up holes. Irons and wedges were consistent .. consistently weak, that is .. lotta chunks or thins .. very disappointing... OTOH after the first few holes the newly reshafted driver was .. mostly .. working nicely. Popular Post yungkory
Got out for my monthly round today. When we were checking in, the guy at the pro shop told us we were the last tee time (7:10am) because there was a tournament today. Said "hopefully you guys can finish in 4 hours" and I said that sounds great, I like a 4 hour round and we would finish before it gets really hot. 4-hr rounds at a public course on Oahu aren't common btw. What he didn't tell us is that if we don't finish, they're gonna tell us to head in and start the shotgun scramble. As we headed to the 15th tee box we were told they're closing the course, and our group, and the groups ahead of us on 16 and 17 are being asked to leave. My buddy emailed the GM because she wasn't there, but if they're not giving me a free round (I'll pay for cart) I'm never going back there again. Side note I was kinda playing pretty good. Had a 3' eagle putt that I converted, and another birdie which helped combat the two doubles I made. Probably would've broken 80 if I managed to make a par or two during the last three holes, which is always a good day for me since I'm not practicing or playing much these days. Peaksy68
Another up and down round. 9 over playing off 7, which seems to be what I do now. 2 over after 3 then played the next 6 holes in 1 under. Should have have been 1 less after flushing a 7 iron to 2 feet on the 8th hole. I missed the putt whilst thinking about finally winning the “golden shot” Thankfully I did and it was worth $164 which eased the pain of missing the putt somewhat. Another flushed 7 iron cost me after a wrong yardage meant I flew the green. Putted well, short game was pretty solid. Finished the round by lipping out bunker shot. Probably my best shot of the day, ball was plugged in the face. Popped up beautifully and looked in until the last 6 inches. Tap in for par wasn’t what I was expecting as I walked in to the bunker.
