Popular Post DoubleBogeyDad
Played in a corporate scramble today. Ended up shooting -9 which should've put us in the running. Had to leave before dinner and prizes so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out. Tee game just wasn't there, but my fairway woods were locked in. Hit a couple greens from 230 out and sunk a 35 footer for eagle. Wedge game was on and gave us a couple birdie putts inside 10 feet. All in all a good showing, and beats working any day. sirchunksalot, Ben Joest, fixyurdivot and 7 others 10 Quote Dr: Stealth 10.5° Woods: M4 - 3W 15°, 5W 18° 4i-PW: MacGregor MT86 OS 50.08F/54.10S/60.08M: Pu: Ketsch Counter Balance Ball: MTB Prime Pushcart: 4.0 Rangefinder: Bushnell Tour V6 Shift Other:

It's supposed to be 95+ tomorrow with a heat index of 105 and I'm going to the range for the first time in a while. I'll just be chipping, but a buddy invited me and I can't resist hitting balls for the first time in a long time. Good to hear you're finally getting back out! Confession time: I didn't make it out again today. Had to run to the store first, and the walk down the driveway was soul-sucking enough that I caved. Siamese Moose
I shot an 81 today (net -3, Sharon Woods GC, Cincinnati), which, prior to this week, I would have been happy with. But after shooting a 39 in my Monday league, and then tying my best ever at 73 on Wednesday, this felt like a disappointment. However, the main reason I'm posting this is I want to know what person thought it was a smart idea to use red, orange, and yellow for the pin position flags. I defy anybody but the most eagle eyed around to tell the difference between red and the orange hue they used from any distance at all. I'm thankful for rangefinders! cksurfdude, Ben Joest, Kenny B and 4 others 7 Quote Moose, my cat, is Siamese

Ain't that the truth? I had 7 birdies yesterday so swinging/playing really well. But on the 3rd hole I didn't "s" word but just glanced off the hosel squirting the ball a little right and under a tree for a bogie. Then on the 7th hole there is a steep cliff down the entire right side and a false front so short is a bogie or worse. Pin was back right so middle of the green was the play and I decided to take one more club and if I was long, I could still make par from the back fringe. Just an awful swing seemingly out of nowhere that I caught way out on the toe, losing distance and going right not even making the false front and it rolled all the way to the bottom of the ravine. Two par 3's and two terrible swings using the entire club face from hosel to toe, just not the middle. Popular Post cksurfdude
So finally good news to report: played unusually well last two rounds! Mostly Played 18 with a friend and on the Front 9 ended with a +8/43 (only one par 5) for my best score to date on the front. A good hole: #2 long par 4 - nailed the tee shot long and straight .. looking at a 180+ second with a nice sized green but trouble all around so I'm going for the uhhh smart golf layup (as I usually do on this hole for a "good" bogey) .. friend is like, nah ya gotta go for it .. pick up the 7W and go for it .. straightish but low but still carried the lip of the fronting bunker and ball bounced and rolled up the green towards the back right (flag middle back) .. easy two putt par. The bad hole: topped the tee shot, took a 7i to punch it out of the rough and down the wide fairway .. stoopit ball had other ideas and went to the right to visit the trees .. third shot, simple punch out back to fairway, right? .. ball had other ideas and wanted to stay along the right side under the trees .. fourth shot had an opening to the front left of the green with the flag middle front .. made an ok shot if a little low and ball bounced and rolled into the rough .. but did get up and down for a double. Back 9 started off well, too, even if an interesting mix of pars and doubles .. so was still only +4 thru the next 5 holes, but then .. but then .. the magic fairy pixie dust wore off and I added +10 on the last four holes... Still finished with a 93 (+22) so actually happy with that! -- Next day played the front 9 and .. not gonna speculate at this point if I'm working towards a new plateau, but .. played fairly solid golf combined with a really good short game for another +8/43! Although this time the double came on that #2 hole that I did so nicely on just the day before... Almost made a birdie on a short Par 4 and didn't even realize it until after I tapped in the second putt! BUT, Lady folks and Gentlemen - that is g.o.l.f. the crazy weird game we choose to immerse ourselves in!! Popular Post Byrnzee
Played American Dunes today in Grand Haven Michigan. Jack Nicklaus design that opened in 2021. Absolutely stunning course. Was in immaculate shape and the design was very fun to play. I was able to shoot my lowest round of the year with an 81 (40-41) with a few double bogeys and three putts. The driver wasn’t great today, but I made up for it with great ball striking with the irons and wedges. Overall I’m super proud of how I performed today. With a bit more consistency off the tee, I believe I could’ve broke 80 today. Popular Post Haro
Played team scrabble. Got in with -12 and thought that was good was Not enough good for top5. Winning team -17 I was driving the ball well. Made some good iron shots. The other fellows in my group were strong putters and chippers we complimented each other well My ball flight has really changed a lot since the start of the season I’m primarily a drawer of the ball. Lost ability to fade My fade is basically a straight shot and when I try baby cut I can’t it turns to a slice. The good thing is that I don’t hook the ball and have reasonably good right to left control and not afraid of the hook and can hook on command How ever I just cannot hit a control fade anymore. My basic iron fade is really a hold off pull shot that "cuts" If I come down more steep than I can cut the ball more If I hit up on the ball I can somewhat control the ball by extending my arms and letting my forearms roll after ball contact To fade the ball I hold off the rolling effects of my forearm Edited August 26 by Haro just have thought about "controlled slice" BallsLeon, ejgaudette, JerryB and 7 others
rkj427
Played Friday afternoon after we were slammed with heavy rainfall earlier in the week. A lot of courses were closed due to flooding, this one was open, and for the most part the whole course could have been considered "casual water" even in the driest parts. A lot of standing water, pools and large puddles, so it played as all carry and no roll at all. Paired up with another twosome of late 30 to early 40 year old men, and had a fun time. The front 9 for me was "scrambling" as I did not hit a lot of green in regulation, but the short game saved me for score, as I only had 13 putts on the front. The back 9 was better as far as greens in regulation, and also led to more 2 putt pars, so 16 putts on the back. Posted a few pictures, and I did have a natural birdie, net eagle on the number 2 handicap hole. A par 5 where I hit 3 wood from the tee, utility wood from the fairway, and a wedge from about 100 yards and made the putt. Next round for me is Sunday at a different course, so hopefully the ground dries out a bit before then. fixyurdivot
38/38 today on Cimarron. Game was solid all around and I, hopefully , busted the lid off the birdie drought with 3 today . I almost had an eagle on #14 par 5. Drive found the fairway trap but I hit a great second shot with the TM Gapr 3 ( fwiw, I've found that club to be quite useful on long sand shots). My approach one hopped, hit the pin and was 6 inches away. We had three foursomes and played 2 net/18 with carryovers (basically skins). We won one of the carryovers, each getting back $9 of our $10. Byrnzee
Played two rounds today in northern Michigan. First round was at Crooked Tree Golf Club. Weather was supposed to be mid 70s and sunny, but ended up being rainy and low 60s. Driver really wasn’t cooperating on this course. Ended up spraying balls everywhere and losing more than I care to admit. This course was extremely punishing if you couldn’t hit your driver somewhat straight. Ended up shooting a 90, which is pretty disappointing given the 81 I shot yesterday. After a lunch break we played Belvedere Golf Club in the afternoon. I really loved this course. It had an old-school country club vibe and a great course layout. Apparently this is the course Tom Watson played on growing up during the summer. The weather also turned around and was beautiful all afternoon. I was able to figure out the driver this round, which was a great change from the morning. Ball striking was decent, but putting is where I really struggled. I lipped out SEVEN putts on this course. I’ve never wanted to snap my putter in half more. When all was said and done, I was able to scramble for an 83, despite putting woes and a double on 18. Can’t be too disappointed when I’m knocking on the door of 70s twice within two days. Playing one more course tomorrow morning to wrap up this Michigan golf trip. Ben Joest
Made the trip over to Indianapolis today to play in my extended family’s annual golf outing, with my nephew and brothers-in-law. Over the years, this outing has been played at a handful of courses, but this year it was at Gray Eagle in Fishers. Nothing too fancy, but it was a nice course and set up well for a scramble. We finished 4 under, and given that the lowest handicap among the 3 is a generous 20, it was a hard fought 4 under for your boy. The TSR 3 continues to be money well spent, as my long for the day was a respectable 311 yards. The blades were solid, but not spectacular and I absolutely cannot wait for the new irons to arrive. Due to the fact it was a scramble and not a handicap round, I was alternating between the Versa Double Wide and the new Scotty. I really like them both, so there is a putter battle brewing, as I need to pick one to finish the season with. RichL85
One of those rounds today. I felt like I played badly, but at the end of the day, putting saved my round. Only 29 putts compared to my usual 34-36, so I managed to finish up with an 85, tying my previous best. Made everything within 6 feet and had a few 20+ footers that just barely missed falling in. If I didn't hook every single drive today I should have had a much better round, but that was the weird struggle today. Goes to show that if I can tie my previous best without being able to get off the tee, in theory, I should have potential to shoot some lower scores. Hopefully one of these days I can turn this potential into reality. Maybe my driver was just mad at me for trying out the Gen 6 yesterday, felt the need to punish me for looking at another club.
