Jmikecpa
After a morning with my daughter at her school and two hours of playing kickball with my son at his school after that I decided to go play. Had no hope for a good round and went out and shot 73 with one under on the front and two over on the back. For the heck of it I threw the Spider in the bag and it is a solid putter. Something to be said about not having any alignment aids on the putter. Really made me focus on the line of the putt a lot more and went around in 29 putts with zero three jacks. cksurfdude
Hit the range to work a bit more with my new irons then went out onto the 9 hole Par 3 there .. which is no pitch & putt .. each hole is a scaled down version of a championship course Par 3. So there are some hazards and visual distractions, and a few holes have a bit of elevation change. For example, #9 is a loose copy of the infamous #17 Island Green at The Player's; this one plays from about 100 to 125 depending where they set the tees. Also the whole green here is pretty flat. #4 - that I seem to almost always majorly screw up - is based on a hole at the National GC in Southampton, NY. It plays uphill to a blind green with a deep bunker in front and tree branches intruding down the right side past the tee box, ie. covering the bail-out side. Anyway, tee shots were inconsistent .. either pretty good or pretty bad .. but chipping and putting is definitely - though incrementally - improving. I was pretty much starting all my putts on my line .. which I'm happy with .. tho could not get a lot of them to drop .. but then my distance control was generally solid so I ended up with a lot of short clean-up putts. Chipping was mostly solid, though more of the ones I had I put a bit past my target .. but still generally on-line .. so happy with that. Biggest weakness still bunkers... Hit three(!) of them (was playing two balls as no one else was around me at the time) and over-cooked the first two 'outs' .. they went across the green; the third was a pretty nasty lie - under the lip at the bottom of a steep and high slope and .. at the bottom of a small, deep depression! (Yeah very few people rake after on this course.) But .. and I'm kinda happy about this one, too .. I leaned forward, picked the club up steeply and chopped down on it, hard, and .. pop! It came out and up and over the top of the slope and settled in the rough just short of the green. Kenny B 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... Golfspy_CG2
A day late in posting this, but I had a pretty good round (for me) of 45 in the Wednesday night league. As everyone always say's it could have been really good, I left a 42 out there with 3 tough 3 putts, that said I only had 15 putts for 9 holes. Overall hit the ball well and the short game was very sharp as I almost holed out two chip shots. Since I moved to a more upscale muni with lots of bunkers, I have had more practice. And yes, they don't rake the sand at my course very well either!! However, some days I do really well and get up-and-down, other days I can't get out. I think it corresponds to how my full swing tempo is that day. Poor swing days = poor bunker days which is a bad combination. Kenny B
I've been doing yard work all week, and my arms, hands, shoulders and ribs are sore. I haven't played since Sunday which was a complete disaster. So tonight after my wife got off work we played nine holes. The wind was 20mph all day, but died down to 10mph when we teed off. I could barely hit the ball, and my short game really sucked. The shot of the night wasn't mine; my wife holed out for eagle on the par 4 #2 from 70 yards into the wind. The shot was half-blind; she could see the flag, but not the green so she didn't see it go in. As we approached the green, my ball was the only one on the green. She said where's mine? I said it's in the hole because it was on a very good line. Her first eagle on this course. I was just trying to find a swing that I cannily this weekend when we play with anther couple. By the 9th hole, my swing didn't hurt quite so much. cksurfdude and MattF 2 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

cksurfdude
You practice bunker shots in the garage?? Yeah, I don't belong to a club and practice bunkers on muni courses are few and far away....(the nearest one is really shallow and firm; you basically just chip out of it) This gadget is supposed to train you to hit just under "the ball" .. ie. simulate scooping out sand + ball .. and you can hit it off a mat into a net. GeekingGolf
I played terribly from tee to green couldn't hit a fairway to save my life. Took my medicine every time. Wedge play was good in those situations. Just switched over to new driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and hybrid so apparently they don't agree with me. Only hit 50% of fairways and 28% of the greens. Relied heavily on chipping and putting. I think switching the Callaway Chrome soft helped me around the greens. Shot an 83 scrambling around. Was not a particularly fun round. Jmikecpa
Got out early this morning to beat the rain and shot 39-35 for 74. Starting to come around with my game but still need to work on my short game a bit. Dropped a few stupid shots around the greens that could have turned 74 into 70 very easily. Second round with the Spider and it is not going anywhere anytime soon. Putted really well again and the highlight was the 20 footer I rolled in for eagle on the 351 yard par 4 15th. Pro told me it was the first eagle on that hole in several years. Needless to say very pleased with how my game is shaping up now that I am playing a bit more. Kor.A.Door
Well, I hit the ball today, a lot for me, 86 times in fact. No broken or thrown clubs, had a stretch of holes where I was not releasing the club, so I hit a bunch of flares to the left, so deep in the woods I don't think that the deep woods off would have helped, but I came back with some good drives that last 4 holes which helped a lot. Kenny B
I've been playing poorly of late. However, today I started to see a glimmer of hope of better rounds in the future. My 84 would have been much better if I didn't have 3 doubles, and I don't mean scotch. 1st double: Had a downhill/sidehill lie in the rough after a poor drive. Couldn't get it over a bunker; followed by a poor bunker shot, poor chip and 2-putt. 2nd double: Poor tee shot on a 215y par 3; decent 2nd shot onto the green, followed by a 3-putt. 3rd double: Another par 3 playing 170, hit my tee shot into the bunker; 2nd shot got out but the ball hit a rake handle and popped back into the bunker. 3rd shot out and 2-putt. My short game wasn't my best, but other than that one 3-putt, I did putt pretty well. In all cases the doubles could have been eliminated with better tee shots, and I would have broken 80. I'm starting to feel a little better about my game.
