Rusty1885
Many things went wrong today before I even set foot on the tee box. The technician came 2 hours late, I had to move my tee time then when I got to the course I literally paid while the group I was paired up with were on the tee box teeing off. Too many distractions and I couldn't keep a quiet mind so I just played with what I had. I hit every shots straight which is a problem because I draw shots I aim 8-12 yards right and just my luck most pins (the one that matters) in the front nine were on the left side and I couldn't bring myself to aim at the pin. On the 5th I topped the drive for the first time this year dropped the ball(unplayable) and hit a great 5wd that hit "that one" branch and dropped straight down followed by another one on to the green missed the bogey putt. It was not horrible but I found myself wishing that it was better. I was playing with a decent foursome and we had a great time. Shot 42 in the front with birdies on 1st and 9th. Then I caught the wave on the 15th par 5, reach in 2, lipped out the eagle putt and made birdies the rest of the way in plus the birdie on the par 5 11th, for a 32. Strange but fun round lots of grinding. It felt like I shot in the 80s but somehow I was able to scramble some of the crucial holes. jaxbeachpackerfan
Don't you love symmetry?? Not. Friday, I shot a good front nine 39 and a not so good back nine 48. Yesterday, same course, same conditions, I shot a not so good front nine 48 and a good back nine 39. Same 87, but completely different rounds. Couldn't get anything going yesterday until my re tee on the long par 3 11th after hitting the first into the water (water juts in after the tee). Then, out of nowhere, I hit a great 4 iron to 10 feet from 195, then par, birdie, birdie, bogie, bogie, par and par. At least those last seven holes will keep me coming back! The consistent inconsistency continues! Played at The Palencia Club north of St Augustine yesterday (tournament at the Valley). Same 87, same variance between nines, though a slightly less extreme 46/41. At least I'm finishing better than I start the last couple of rounds. Back on the Valley Friday, probably the last day of golf for a bit since the noon hurricane track forecast still has the eye going right over us Monday afternoon! Supposed to play Oak Marsh on Amelia Island on Tuesday (of Big Break fame), but I'm guessing that won't happen! cksurfdude, Flipper554, yungkory and 1 other 4 Quote Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts. In my Ogio Ozone XX Cart Stand Bag:Ping G400 10.5 Deg Driver, stock Stiff shaftTM Rocketballz 19 Deg 5 Wood, stock Matrix Osik Stiff shaftTM Rocketballz Stage 2 21 Deg Tour 4 Hybrid, Rocketfuel 80h Stiff shaft Callaway Apex CF 16 Irons, 4-P, Stiff Shafts Scor 48 and 55 degree wedges. Rickp
Went out this morning with a lot of high hopes to shoot my age! Well, didn't happen, never does...1st tee started light rain and a dbl! Not happy. Continued on, so did the rain and 7th hole turned into downpour. I mean a freakin downpour. Entire course emptied into the restaurant at once because everyone has their own carts and rain was so hard nobody wanted to venture out. Restaurant made a fortune and we got rain checks. Win-win. Peaksy68
Second round of club championship, really early start at 7.08 in crisp 42F. Started well, 39 on the front 9, including a missed tap in. Was all going well until the 12th, barely drove it past the ladies tee, then bladed a lob wedge out of a divot. Lost ball, racked up a quad. Ended up with 85/79 with a quad and 2 doubles. Moved back a couple of spots in the rankings. Conditions were tough, no run and pins very tough. Best score of the day was 4 over by a guy off +1. Bizarrely, due to ESC, handicap came in from 5.4 to 5.3. cksurfdude and Rickp 2 Quote 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy
cksurfdude
A couple of 6s and a bunch of 7s .. which I'm pretty happy with as that was the combined count playing two balls on an 18-hole Par 3. Holes go 60 to 105, with most from 75 to 95; that 105 is more like a mini Par 4 as it goes about 80 then turns 90 degrees right - it's hard to cut the corner as it's a total blind shot over some tall trees and a lot of thick bushes (and poison ivy!). So it's great wedge practice and I hit many, many more greens this time than any prior trip to this course. There was a Double or two in there, too; most of my problems were putting on the slower than I'm used to greens .. so I was leaving a lot of putts short..... Some chips, too, where I missed the greens also left short .. didn't get as much roll as expected. What made it more "fun" was the wind .. steady 10-12 with gusts into the upper teens. But the interesting part is this layout meanders through the native .. and dense .. shrubs and pines so that each tee shot you had a different wind direction and speed. Even tho I understand what the wind "does" I didn't always adjust my shots well enough for it .. but hopefully I've learned a little more about playing in the wind. Really screwed up the last hole, which was 100 and fully exposed to the freshening breeze. Failed to keep both tee shots - now straight into the wind - low enough and they got pushed up, back and to the left. Made the same mistake on the ensuing chips and had to do them both again... So on in 3 on a Par 3 (yuck) and ended with a 5 and a 6 (for a combined 11 .. ouch). Oh well .. motivation for next time! Rickp and MaxEntropy 2 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... Fixing up a home recording studio and running around getting all the piece together. On Thursday, I had a very interesting round. I hit my drive long and straight as well as my fairway woods but my irons were not as crisps. I continued putting with my Tuttle putter. Distance control was great. The 3some I joined all played with the Scotty Camerons and after the 7th, one asked me what kind of putter did I use. I said Callaway, he said you mean Odyssey, nope, Callaway. jpcgolf
Hole in one! 115 yard par 3 with a little helping breeze. Pin was in the right hand section of the green tucked over a bunker. Anything over the green on the line of the flag bounces 30 yards down a hill. The greens were soft, and I knew I could spin one back. I don't like hitting full swing wedges, so I hit a really easy punch fade PW that was right on line, but when I hit it, I thought for sure it was going over the green and bouncing down that hill. Somehow, it landed a few feet from the back edge of the green, paused for a moment, then took off backwards down the slope, spinning back 40 feet into the hole! TSauer
I've never played in an event like that, but for some reason I literally laughed at this post. There have been times I wondered who peed in the greens keepers wheaties, so I can't imagine if they were intentionally putting pins in crazy places. Sent from my BLN-L24 using MyGolfSpy mobile app It was unreal the amount of backdoor putts that were made. Rolling the ball past the hole and waiting for it to come backwards to the hole was just crazy. Flipper554
Played in a "Greens Keeper Revenge" tourney today, and it made me question why I even play golf. The absolute toughest greens and pin locations. Just brutal. We play an ironman at the end of the year. Tees back as far as they go and pins as tough as they can find. It's fun when you know what you're getting into. The last course I played back east used to finish the year with a tombstone tournament, they give you a flag and when you run out of handicap strokes you plant you flag on that hole. Not many finish the full 18. Fun though. cksurfdude, jpcgolf, Rickp and 1 other 4 Quote Driver: Cobra F8 Tour length 3W: Cobra King F7 3/4 Wood 5W: Cobra King F7 5/6 Wood Hybrid 3/4: Cobra F7 20.5* Irons: 5 to PW Taylormade P790 A Wedge: 48* Vokey SM6 F grind S Wedge: 54* Vokey SM6 M grind L Wedge: 58* Vokey SM6 M grind Putter: Rife Two Bar Hybrid 35" P2 Aware Tour grip Ball: Taylormade TP 5X Bag: Hot Z Canadian flag 🇨🇦
