How'd you play?

Played a fun Par 3; most holes are from about 105 up to about 150 and are scaled down replicas of Par 3s from famous courses, eg. the 150 yd hole mimics Augusta #12.

It's good short game and approach shot practice plus on this day there was a strong and steady wind blowing left-to-right going out and then from right-to-left coming back. Only #1 was downwind and only #2 was into the wind .. and, those were two holes where I hit the middle of the green with the tee shot and made both two putts for pars.

#3 - the Augusta #12 - hit what would have been long-left in no wind only to have the ball end up short-right (hey but dry!). Left the chip up short and two putted ..bogey.

#4 similar tee shot and ball held its line but landed short and rolled back down a steep bank into a bunker. 2 chips to get on :( and 3 putts to get down :( .. triple.

Got back on track after that and made bogies or pars, plus one very unlikely birdie -- I played a second ball after watching the first tee shot get pushed hard downwind into a bunker; kept that second shot nice and low and straight on-line .. and .. directly into a smaller, deeper bunker on the other side! Well.. that second bunker shot somehow popped out, hit the fringe and rolled out and .. right into the cup! Plz don't ask me how.

(Ended with a Double on the first ball...)

Tee shot after that hole was 140 uphill with the wind from the left and played it long-left again and hit the front middle of the green (yea) .. but didn't putt it right so 3-putted (boo) .. bogey.

Last hole is like that TPC Stadium "Island Hole" .. with wind now from the right .. and tee shot was right on-line but fell inches short .. splash... Second tee looked like a copy of the first but caught the fringe this time. Left the chip up short again, and two putts .. so (ugh) triple.

But overall happy with the generally increasing quality and consistency of my tee shots and also with .. mostly .. keeping the ball in play in a strong crosswind.

:o   No 2 chips and no 3 putts.  Sounds like a lot of fun.  I wish we had a course like that.

Yes! That's one thing I wish I had around here as well. A quick par 3 course where I could knock out a round in an hour. Sounds like he played a nice one too.

You better practice that now that you're gonna be spending a lot more time there after those drive bombs.

Ha. Yes, Sir - I know the Rules, I just .. ummm .. occasionally choose to not comply with them ;-)

But yeah - real fun little course! Especially outside of Summer when there are way fewer people out on it; the place also has a decent practice range and an elaborate looking mini golf area, too.

Played Kiln Creek in Newport News Saturday and shot my best game in a few years.

83,  42 front and 41 back, came in to 18 only 3 over on the back, needed par for 39 and ended with a double.

But, all in all I was very happy. Just wish I could shoo this consistently.

Could only play 9 this morning Mallory Hill due to Doc appointment. Shot 41 on Amelia 9. Fareways and greens were awesome. I was kinda happy with the 41. Missed 2 putts should have made.

It sure is nice to play in nice weather and great conditions.[emoji106]

Played in a charity event today as a tune up for Isleworth and Nona later this week. Old Westbury is one of my favorite tracks on the island and unfortunately they aerated their greens last week. Drove it really well and holed two wedges for a bird on a Par 5 and an eagle to close the day out. -11 was one shy of winning and I lost the long drive by two feet since my ball plugged and rolled back three yards down a slope. Rolled the Scotty Studio Design 2 today for fun and it was like wearing old slippers. I had one 15 years ago that I got rid of and now I am not sure why I did that.

... Been a frustrating week or so with very high heat in the mid 90's which really makes the ball fly and always feels good on my back, but superintendents afraid they might lose greens and fairways have severely over watered courses. Greens are slow and shaggy and fairways have turned into wet, light rough.

... Finally played a course today with real greens again rolling true and while not exactly fast they certainly were not slow. Had 6 makable birdie putts and converted 4 of them. Add 2 bogies and a nice 70 after shooting over par my last several rounds, and on one of them losing a ball in the middle of the fairway that just got sucked under ground in the very wet conditions. My son almost shot in the 80's for the first time carding a 90. But he did hit a monster 345 yd drive on #16. The whole way home from the course he was recounting shots he should not have missed including two topped tee shots, two short putts and 1 chunked chip. He is finally a real golfer!    :)

Back from Hilton Head Island and was gaming my Bellum-Winmore putter so I shot a 40/40:80......no birdies BUT I did score an Eagle with a 60 yard Hole out on #10, using my Ben Hogan Ft Worth 57* wedge.

With the 80, I scored first place and some cash $72 plus $30 for the eagle. Drives and irons were smoking today.

38 for nine today. It was a tough course with narrow fairways and the greens had crazy slopes. Overall, happy with my round. Just couldn't make any putts. I am going to blame that on the aerated greens...

After a frustrating 38 on Monday's match, I came back today with a bogey free, two under 33, and this is the course our league championship is at: Bretton Woods.  I have been hitting the ball long and straight, uncharacteristically straight for me lately, and I love the new confidence it gives me.  I still struggled with making putts today, paring the first 7 holes, missing a few close ones for birdie.  Then on the 8th hole, I got up and down for birdie with an awesome flop shot from over the green and above the hole to 6 inches.  Then on the par three number nine, I rolled in a sweet 20 footer for birdie for a nice finish and a 2 under 33.

I have been going back and forth with this one opponent, a friend, all season.  In our first match against this school I beat him by one, in the second match he beat me by one, and today I beat him by two after we both parred the first 6 holes, then he doubled 7, and then we both birdied the last two including making matching 20 footers for birdie on nine which we both got a kick out of.
