How'd you play?

Recommended Posts

We played 9 last night with another couple. Note: worked out in the morning, driving range in the afternoon then pickle=ball before the golf.

Started out great but lost steam around #7 so ended up with a 47.  Interesting my drives were spot on and getting the distance I've been looking for - perhaps the result of recent workout program?

Yeah I'm always nervous when I see guys from an adjacent hole looking for their lost ball near mine.

Got in another 18 at a local course yesterday, absolutely killer day for golf.

Ended up with an 89, 32 putts, 44% GIR, 73% FIR.

Back 9 I played hands down my best 9 ever, with a 40. Had a chip in to save bogey, tons of great shots and a few lucky bounces, but made a happy camper by the time we finished up and were eating dinner!

There is a 9 hole executive five minute from home that I grew up playing. Took dad out for a quick 9 after class and did some short game work. Short irons off the par 4s and missed par 3s on purpose to work on chipping.

All in all a decent ball striking day despite missing some yardages.

I've been out with a sprained wrist since Memorial Day in May. I did it on the last hole of a 3-day tournament with just 2 shots left to finish. It was excruciating and still hurts if I twist my hand or put weight on it. I've been gradually working toward being able to handle a full 18 holes again. I'm finally there - woohoo! I tape my wrist plus wear a little wrap brace for support and then swing away. Surprised and elated I shot my personal best this morning 92!

New goal - break 90. And do it while testing the new Wilson D7 irons.

Very nice!! Beware the wounded golfer.

What is it about wrists this year.  I'm still playing with a sore wrist.  I have no idea how I injured it.  I woke up one morning and it hurt.

I know about that! Sometimes I wear this wrap brace (loosely) at night so I don't sleep with my hand tucked up under my chin or pillow. It works.

You sure it's a shank and not just an open club face coming from the inside?

Now that I think about it, I didn't see any markings on the hosel. So is it because I am leaving the face open at impact, I should be rotating the face through out the chip, right?

Without seeing it, my guess is that you're getting the clubhead behind you and then when you come forward you're using your arms to follow through, leaving the clubface open.  The ball has no chance but to go right.

Played yesterday evening at a course I'm familiar with and shot 83. Played this morning at a brand new course in Kansas City and shot 100 😞. LOL.

Played Dub's Dread today and really enjoyed it. Despite snagging 3 birdies today, I only had maybe 2 pars and a lot of "others". I'd begun to forget just how tough it can be to learn a new course that looks so different from what you normally play. Hoping I'll get to go back there soon and right a few wrongs from today's round.

... I am going to be completely reckless and give you some advice without seeing your chipping stroke. To start with, make sure you have your weight on your front foot and keep it there. Keep the club head in front of you, almost like a straight line on the path you are chipping, and do not rotate the face. Pull with the back of the left hand thru impact keeping the face square. Keep the motion smooth and make no attempt to accelerate and "hit" the chip, just let the length of the stroke dictate distance.

...  Like most things in golf it is the feeling of what we are doing that is important. Feeling like you are keeping the shaft/club head in font of you and feeling like you are not rotating the face keeps everything simple. All that said. DO NOT try and force the face to remain square. It will rotate a little naturally. It will also move just a little inside but never behind you.

... Just be smart about your wrist Kenny. I had a torn labrum several years ago and decided to just play through the pain since there were only a few months left in the season. It turned into a frozen should on top of the torn labrum and set me back a year even with constant rehab. "Play through the pain" was doable when we played high school and college sports but once any number higher than a 1, 2 or 3 starts your age, prudence is the proper course of action. Seeing an Ortho is never a bad idea either.

Kenny you should listen to this guy. He may not be a doctor but he played one once and he slept in a Holiday Inn Express.

Someone has to say it!

Played Lincoln Park West from the Blue Tees - started off out of sync - 1 bogey, 1 birdie on the front but started hitting the ball much better on the back 5 birdies no bogeys. Feels good to turn it around like I did.

Appreciate the advise, gonna try it on Thursday
