How'd you play?

82 yesterday 41-41. Very rough front 9 spraying the ball everywhere, didn't hit the same shot twice in a row, missing every possible way, even 2 s***KS at least the front 9 of my home course is pretty open so I got away with it. Spraying the ball like that usually leads to 45+ on the back.

Caught my pro at the turn. He checked my setup And said everything looked great. Reminded me to take my time and commit. So I hit the ball much better on the back save 1 shot so 41 is a much better score. Need to build on this for Sun & Mom rounds.

That’s way up there.  I think the highest point around me is 82’.   Love the scenery in your photo.

That's almost subterranean.  There isn't a course I play here in MT below 4600 ft.  Crazy as it sounds, I really don't see a huge difference in distances playing here or in Yuma.

I agree with the "commit" part.  Those "tweener" shots/yardages often get me in trouble as I've been using the "grab the longer club" approach recently, trying to reduce the tendency to come up short, and then try and throttle/finesse it a bit. This is particularly problematic on mid/long irons.

Yea I was struggling with just a full iron from the fairway. Standing there with an 8i and having no idea where is going is not me. And it would be different if everything was a pull or a fade, just play that shot for the day, but it was every which way.

On the tweeters I'm in the other school. Take less club and hit it harder. Or just avoid that yardage all together. Like I hate 130 which is between my PW and 50.

Playing the local mini where my daughter lives in Illinois. It's a nice track, actually has hills, unusual for this part of the country 😂

Think they need their slope/rating revised, this is a much tougher track than the courses I play at home. Narrow fairways, thick rough, hard greens. Managed a 77 today, 80 yesterday. Can't get a birdie to fall.

Fun either way.

Played at Timberline today which is a course in the metro Birmingham area. Shot 82 42/40 (par 71), which for me is pretty solid. Had two birdies but also had two triples, which if those two triples are just bogeys that’s a 78. Not complaining though as I got to play golf on the company dime. Still having issues with driver control, but hit some great drives as well.

Los Altos - ABQ, NM  44/39-83 ECS 82

I really had a feeling that this was going to be the day that I would break 80…I guess I was wrong. A double and an ugly quad stopped the break 80 quest. I spent my pre-round strictly on the putting green, but I still didn’t feel 100% on the greens even though the putt numbers were ok…(7x 1-putt, 1x 3-putt) 17/13-30 total putts.
Sandy save on #1

Putting debacle on #4

Nice drive and 2nd on par-5 #8(last pic)

Horrific on #10…I actually hit that circled tree on my 2nd shot

Nice drive on #11…wrong fairway

Great drive on #14…squander because I was in hard pan for my approach and didn’t want to scuff up my new irons, so I used way too much club (an old Ping 6-iron (currently being used as a 5-iron)).

#16-18 was the best 3-hole stretch of my lengthy golfing career…3 straight birdies. Tap-in away from chipping in for eagle on #16. Long putt on #17 just barely dropping in for birdie. I usually never use driver on #18 because of that middle of fairway bunker being in play, but I took my chances today, and it paid off.

Memories!!  I used to play Los Altos a lot.  Just outside KAFB, and a very good friend of mine was a member.  We played a lot of NM/ABQ courses, but probably played this one the most.  I was in hardpan frequently, being a 16 handicap.

Yeah, it’s the closets muni to my house, so I’m usually using their range and playing there when I need to get a quick round in. Definitely the easiest track to walk in ABQ.

Club Championship Qualifier today.

Ended at -2 which sees me into the play offs which is all I aimed for. Left a lot of shots out there with defensive play but I must say the course is looking and rolling incredible.

Onto the match play where I can really kick in. Let’s see how the handicap bandits handle the pressure and scratch games.

First round since last Sunday and played with my new toy; Garmin S62 golf watch.  I think I'm going to like it, but it was distracting.  I haven't worn a watch of any kind for 20 years.  I also didn't know how to change screens.  I fiddled with it for awhile, then just gave up and used the F/C/B yardages.  The yardages are spot on with my 12 year old Golf Buddy Tour which I still use and like.  However, it's old; the battery barely lasts 18 holes, and I can't update the firmware or courses because they don't support the Tour model anymore.  Shame.

I shot 85 with no birdies, 3 doubles and three 3-putts, which I almost never do; also had a 360º lip out!!  I did have a 30-yard sand save for par, so happy with that.  The greens were the fastest I've seen this year.  I like them this fast, but I wasn't used to them.  I think they are getting the greens ready for a Memorial Day tournament on Monday.

I also found out today that my WIFE signed us up to play in it... couples better ball.  I hope I play better than I did today.  Even though I've had worse scores this year, it felt like my worst round this year.

Day one of the Pairs tournament.  I'm playing with a friend's wife, so there's no divorce situations arising as a result of couple's golf 😄  Anyway, today was a best ball format.  I shot 82 with 3 double bogeys (lost 3 balls which is a rarity...I normally retire a ball before losing it).  Overall, I was very pleased with my ball striking today (the 3 bad holes not withstanding!).  No birdies today.  Next 2 days is Chapman format, so that's going to be interesting 🙂

Got out on Friday at a local course I have always enjoyed, a true muni that is always in good shape. Plus the rounds are very affordable. Really struggled with the driver all day getting the face and delivering the loft all wrong. This course is more tree lined than most so led to more punch outs.

Still managed to scramble around for a decent score and had a nice birdie on one of the holes where I managed a decent drive. It was also a bit of an adjustment going to a course with real greens with break as my usual course is a bit flat.

Ended up going 40/40 but could have been much better. There is always next time.

The rest of the round settled into what has become a disturbing pattern recently. I played very well through the front 9 (41) but then fell apart on the back (51). I don’t know why this keeps happening.... am I getting tired? Losing focus? Probably a combination of the two.

Have you considered playing the front 9 twice?
