How'd you play?

Got out for a short 9 again (this is seriously the only place to get a tee time around here without driving up to an hour each way) and tho no new scoring records were set, I am feeling good about my progress - finished +8 (Par 35) or as I like to look at it: "1-under bogey golf"  - while hitting a lotta solid golf shots .. way more than usual! .. including off the tee, but still managed at least one mistake per hole that yielded me mostly bogeys.

Hole #6 has kinda turned into my nemesis here - a dogleg left that leads to a small, well-sloped green raised on three sides and a bunker in front - and was kinda typical of my golfing that day. Hit a really solid tee shot that ended up actually drawing left a bit (huh!?!) .. and getting helped by the wind .. and plopped down right into the big wide fairway bunker on the inside corner of the dogleg. Had a pretty flat, clean lie so took a PW to lay up to a good position but .. totally duffed it. Still in the bunker hit again and this time got the ball out nicely to where I'd intended; left me about 40 yds straight in. Wedge shot on was good and landed really close to my spot and rolled to about 6-7 ft below the hole. Putt was on the intended line and the right speed, buuuut .. I mis-read the break and just missed on the low side...

Hit both greens on the short Par 3s (first about 140 uphill; other about 115) so happy with that, even tho on the first one the ball ended up rolling off the back edge of the green.

So overall...
2 pars
6 bogeys
1 double (that #6 hole)
- no penalties, but 1 x 2-chip (first hole) and 2 x 3-putts

Really have to work on distance control for those long first putts - first 3 putt I ran the first one waaay past the hole; second 3 putt left the first one waaay short on a bit of a left-to-right sideslope.

Played 9 today with a friend who is just getting started. I fired a 39 with four missed birdies. Had three bogies, should've had a couple of those birds though. It was miserably hot out there today!

1 better than last week for a 92...it's getting better but still a steaming pile. I had a good hole or two and then a complete mental break down, then another good hole. No idea what was going on, it was rough.

My round went OK, getting more comfortable chipping for sure, Driver was still all over the place, but I’m probably swinging too hard.  I FEEL like it’s getting better though.  And no double bogeys was nice!

Great job on the video, the editing looked slick and the quality was excellent. Looks like your short game was on fire from that Arccos data, that +4.8 putting stat really sticks out. Course looks beautiful!

Thanks! iMovie was pretty intuitive to use. I’m still playing around with all its features but I like it so far. I’ll be working on getting some more short game shots in there too.

The short game definitely bailed be me out yesterday!

Driver - Average, Irons - Poor, Approach - Good, Putting - Poor

Couldn't buy a putt this morning. I missed five putts inside of seven feet, and they weren't even close. Frustrating. Didn't strike my irons well (very thin today), but I was getting around the course well enough to shoot better than 44, the putting just killed me. Oh well, tomorrow is a new round!

Got a chance to try out the new driving iron and it feels very nice. Good results on the hole I purchased it for. 

Took a video on No. 5 today, which was not a pretty bogey. Leaked my drive out behind a tree on the right side, chipped out, chipped up for a legitimate par chance from less than 10 feet and just pushed the putt hard right. It's funny to watch myself on video because by this point I was pretty fed up with my putting, having missed a short putt on No. 2 and having three-putted from 12 feet after hitting the green in regulation on No. 3.

I really like the look of that course. Has a classic country club vibe with all those mature trees lining the fairways.

The swing is looking good and nice video! @B.Boston I've noticed a tendency of trees is they like to jump on your way, happens to me a lot. Nice recovery there @edingc having a legitimate shot at par from there is something to be proud of.

I love the looks of the trees but they sure are frustrating. They place a premium on driving accuracy, of which I don't have much at the moment.

The course dates back to the 1960s, and at one time was an actual country club. One of the buildings had the old spa and locker room up until recently when the owner converted them to extra storage. The clubhouse still is nearly 100 percent original - a huge wooden bar for drinks and tons of seating since it served a lot of food in its heyday. It was actually designed by a local designer who did a few of the bigger name courses in the area much later in his career.

The current owner bought it a few years ago and has been making a lot of improvements to the course since his purchase. While the trees look great, many were overgrown and choking out greens and tee boxes, so he has done a lot of work to remove and trim, and in my opinion there are still several trees that need to go. I mentioned last week drainage is also an issue, but it has been so much better this year with the additional drain tile laid over the winter. I told the owner Tuesday that it's in the best shape I've ever seen it in. And it is currently still a bargain at $32 for 18 and cart on the weekend (a rate that was actually just raised from $28 at the start of the season because of demand).

Played Thursday at Antler Creek in Falcon, CO, just to the east of Co Springs. Long a$$ course, over 8000yds from the tips. We played the blues which is 7000 yds. Really too long for me, should have insisted on the whites.

Woke up ready to go, felt good. By the time we reached the course my back tighten up and became tighter as the day went on. That was disappointing, I was looking forward to this round.

Due to limited mobility it became an arm swing day. Short, high slices off the tee. Or a dead pull left. I think I hit 3 fairways and about that many greens. The the long irons and woods had a workout, generally kept me in the game.

43 on the front and 48 on the back.

Shot of the day? 153 out and I thin one to 3.5 feet. And yes I do mean thin! Missed the putt as well :(

Wow that’s some awesome history then.  Glad to see the new owner is putting in the cash to make it better without destroying some of that history.  

I’m sorry... did you say $32 on the weekend? With a cart? For 18?  Can you send me the name of a realtor? I’m lucky if I can find a course asking for that for 9 holes on a weekend.  Although at my in-laws family cottage in Maine I can play the local track for about $30 which includes a beer, hotdog, and chips at the turn too. Haha

Got out for the first time since the disappointment of not being selected for the Cobra challenge. The hangover is real.

Hadn’t hit the sticks in a few weeks because I tweaked my back, and all I have to say is screw Cobra! I was absolutely mashing the ball today.

Great reminder that, while a lot of new clubs look wonderful and you really want them (boy do I still really want them), you’ve got to have a decent swing to make them work. Got some good work in today, swing felt great, no back pain, absolutely loved my woods today, golf life is good!
