So I know this is the How Did You Play thread, so I'll get that out of the way first.  46 for 9 holes today.

But now the real reason, I'm posting here.  I put this in the T Series Iron thread, but in order for more to see it and hold me accountable, I'm putting it here as well!

So first round (9 holes) with the T300's of the year.  After geting the Mizuno Pro 223's early in the year, and the Wilson D9 Forged a few weeks ago, I gave each of those---well not a fair share, but a bit of a chacne.

With a couple important rounds coming up this week, I took the T300 back out today to get the feel for them.  I have just one question.

Why, Why, Why am i even messing around playing any other iron.  These were last fall when I got them, the best irons I have hit in many years, and they still were today after sitting in my office the better part of the last 5 months.

One thing I noticed today, that I probably knew before but had forgotten.   You know how those that love to play blades, say "They let you know exactly when you miss it'   Well these do too, but in a different way.

I hit a few near perfect shots today with a 9 iron and a couple 6 irons.  They sounded as good as any players club out there upon impact and felt just as good, and most importantly flew high and far.

Then Ihad a couple that at impact made a bit of a clack sound, something you'd expect form a big traditional SGI club.  And the resulting shot was definitely less distance that the soid ones.   Not really enough to get me in any serious trouble, but just came up maybe 10 yards or so short of thje green, or in once case barely on the fron fringe when it was a way back pin.

So you could tell via the sound they weren't hit pefectly and the resulting shot confirmed it.

So not near as harsh as feeling the sting all the way up your hands and arm when you mishit a blade or something in that category.

So I ask again, why would I even put any other irons in my bag

If you need a space to keep those 223's for safe keeping I know a golf bag they can sit in. 😉

Sounds like those T300's are just a perfect match for you Rob!

I needed @DaveP043 for a ruling on this one 🤣.  There were a few approach areas that had seen lots of deer, antelope, and elk this winter... natures fertilizer.

Since you asked, "animal waste" is one of the items listed in the Definition of Loose Impediment.  Rule 15.1 tells us that a Loose Impediment may be removed in any way you choose.  However, if your ball moves as a result of your removal of the Loose Impediment, you get 1 Penalty Stroke, and you must replace the ball on its original spot.

Edit to add, Model Local Rule F-12 may be enacted to allow a player to treat animal dung as GUR, which allow free relief.

Played pretty well yesterday (for me at least), shot an 80 despite 35 putts. Good thing I didn't let the first hole throw me, a par 5, on in 2 😀 and then proceeded to 4 putt*** 🤬 - the greens were WAY slower than I realized, took me a few holes to adapt. Hit 14 of 14 fairways, no lost balls, very rare for me.

Stupid game...(same time tomorrow?).

*** How to 4 putt (I honestly can’t remember my last 4 putt):

  1. Leave a 40 foot putt breaking uphill then downhill slider 10 feet short.
  2. Make sure not to leave it short again, hit it 6 feet past the cup (easy going downhill).
  3. Leave the uphill 6 footer a couple inches short (and right).
  4. Tap in for bogey…blame the putter.

Well, I managed to sneak in my first round of 2022 at Madison Meadows today.  It's been over two weeks since we got back from AZ, cold and snowing.  But today was partly sunny with a high of 48F and moderate winds 8-12 mph.  Blue jeans, thermal underwear, and pullovers was the attire.  There were patches of snow from the storm last week, but overall no problem.  I did have to lift several balls out of snow and fortunately missed flying into any of the large deep drifts as I'd have not likely found the ball.  Not another person on the course, so I played 2 ball... to include a new one that was not among those tested at the MGS Lab.

Holy heck does the game patina return quick.  I definitely felt rusty and it was a mixed bag of flush hits and clunkers. I ended up with a 42/44 and a 40/45.  I needed @DaveP043 for a ruling on this one 🤣.  There were a few approach areas that had seen lots of deer, antelope, and elk this winter... natures fertilizer.

My best hole of the day was #12 par 3 at 164, uphill, into the wind. I had it playing at 177. I hit my 5i and got both balls on the green.  I missed the short putt, but made the long one... go figure 😐. Fan Mountain is the peak above the pin.  The photo dosen't do a very good job showing it but its rock face catches snow in a manner that resembles a pleated fan.

Trying to keep myself in top form for the PNW Spy Meet-up in late June 👍.

I've got to say, you get to play in one of the most picturesque areas, imho. Those mountains are gorgeous in the background!

It sounds like you had a pretty good day on the course, I always enjoy the days where I'm the only one out there as there's just something very peaceful about it.

I'm curious about this new ball that wasn't involved in the MGS test. From the looks of it, I would assume it was one that might be a contender in the Hard Rock Challenge. Who knows, it might be the perfect winter ball and could be soft as a marshmallow in that balmy 48 degree weather. Either way, it looks like it would stop on a dime on the greens...if it made it that far.

I'm glad you had a fun day on the course, Bill.

Walked 9 in windy conditions to see if I could keep up with the ball striking I had a couple days ago. Hit 6/7 FIR, no 3 putts, and nothing worse than a bogey. Finished +2. Very satisfied especially after tge lousy inconsistent golf Ive played the last 2 to 3 years.

I pulled my 5w and added a 2h and put a new shaft in my driver.

Son bought me a box of the new Tour Response Stripe balls so we hit River Heights before work yesterday.  Forgot my Shot Scope watch and I'm a little bummed about it because I was absolutely striping my short hybrid, further than I anticipated.  We played match play again and wound up tied after nine before we had to leave.  I actually had a few pars and no hole felt absolutely terrible, so not a bad round.  Picked up a couple putters from the thrift stores in town (I'm developing a bit of a problem, ha!) and used one for the first time.  Little more weight in the head and it felt good.  "Only" two 3 putts.

For our anniversary my wife and I went to Walla Walla Washington to play Wine Valley GC.  Wine Valley has been a US Open local qualifying course and hosted the 2021 Northwest Open.  We usually play here once or twice a year.

Last night it rained hard and the course was a little wet; not bad, but some puddles in bunkers (which you really don't want to be in anyway).  It was partly cloudy and 50º with wind 10-15mph... nothing to stop the wind on this course!!!

I shot 84 which is really good for me on this course... 42/42 that included doubles on #8 and #9.  Serious slopes on the greens and greens are very quick downslope and not so much upslope, so difficult to read the break.  It also was very difficult to tell where the green ended and where the fringe and fairway started.  I could putt from 25yards off the green and it was like putting on the greens at my home course!!  Surprisingly, it was very easy for me to pitch ball off these very tight lies with my 60º/12º bounce wedge.  The honey bees were out in force with the alfalfa fields nearby.  I had a bee on every ball when I arrived at it in the fairway.  My wife got stung on #7... yeah that probably caused my doubles on 8 and 9! 😂

Some pics for you to ponder...

Friday Bacon Boyz 9, 62*, partly cloudy & 12-14 mph wind.
Played OK not great 2 birdies but lost a ball I hit Dow the middle of the fareway????  It was directly into the sun but did not seem to be in trouble.  Dropped a ball took a penalty so that was a double. Ended up +3 the Dbl kinda bothered me.
Breakfast was awesome!!!!  Kinda funny since all of us with wives were at dinner last night at local Longhorn Restaurant for a “Boyz” 80th birthday!!  Around 30 people quite the crowd!!!

Played my second Spark Golf round. Played with 2 really nice guys who were very supportive.  I played better than my first round, but still > 60, so I have a lot of work to do. Hit a bucket nice and easy before the round and was feeling good about it.  1st drive on opening hole, hard hook over the cart path, down a hill, onto white tee box of next hole. I could have just teed off from there for the next. 🙄  It took a couple of holes to regain my composure.  I did hit GIR in 1 on a par 3 but 3 putted. I had 2 bogeys but all others were double or higher.  Unfortunately, that was the highlight of my round.

Our Men's Club have a 2-day Chapman and the course also has a Washington State Athletic Assn tournament in the afternoon, so we had to go out at 6:50am.  My wife and I were paired with two nice guys that could hit the ball well... some of the time!  OK, maybe it was just once in awhile. 😂  Since they were playing from the Blue tees, I decided to play there even though I now prefer the White (senior) tees now.  One guy didn't get his ball to the White tees 4 times; the other maybe twice.

I shot 41/41 for a very decent 82 with a birdie on the par 4 #3 hole which was the hardest hole on the scorecard until the WSGA re-rated the course last fall.  I managed to take the par 4 #16 hole off where I took a double after a drive down the middle to 150y.  From there I took 5 more shots to get in the hole without being in a penalty area, bunker, or even rough... What a dork!!  One of the guys did make me feel good on the par 3 #17 tee box; he asked: "What are you... one over?"  🤣  🤣

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
