CarlH 4,559
Final round of the club championship wound up today. I struggled on the front 9 (we started on 10) playing the more difficult course and shooting +7. Front side much better and came in with a +2 on that 9 for an 81. I "think" I'll wind up taking 2nd low net for First Flight 65+ Division. Temps did not reach the 102 forecast, but they got close. We were much more humid than usual for this area and we had a 10 minute fairly hard rainfall during the round. 9 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9 degree Alta CB55 Stiff shaft Hybrids: M6 --- 3 (19 degrees), 4 (22 degrees), and 5 (25 degrees) Atmos shaft R Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW KBS Tour Graphite 70g shafts R Wedges: CBX-2 52*, 56*, 60* wedges. Started off today with birdie, par, par, birdie, par, par and hit 9 iron on every one of those holes LOL. 20 mph winds so rode it or hit some knockdown shots into it and clearly I would have been at a huge disadvantage without my 9 iron! fozcycle 11,654
38-38 76 today - Learning the D7’s and hit several really nice iron shots with them including 5 irons. juspoole 1,409
This past Friday started a nice stretch for me. I played Friday, Sunday and get to play again for work on Wednesday and Thursday! Friday I played the course right next door and played ok - didn't quite have it all working, but was able to still score fairly well. Ended up shooting 75. On Sunday, I played one of the nicer courses in the area and had one of the best tee to green performances I can remember. Putting was a bit off and I did not execute on many birdie chances that were inside 15 feet, however was able to shoot +1, 73 for the day. Had a great finish on the 18th. Pulled my lob wedge 3rd shot to bunker and only had about 8 feet of green to work with, landed it perfectly on fringe and rolled in for a bird on the par 5. 73 8/14 fairways 12/18 greens 31 putts The course Wednesday is a very brutal course off the tee so I may try to play many more hybrids from the tee to keep in play. Usually I end up shooting mid 80's there because of so many penalties. Should be fun regardless. Combination of bad luck and exhaustion. Driver was on fire and wedges were good. The 19th Hole 411
Went out to play this weekend at Carmel Valley Ranch Golf Course. It was suppose to be a getaway from the heat at my house, but alas, it was not to be. Started the round with temps around 95 with no wind...I don't like heat. Luckily a slight breezed kicked up around the 10th hole that made the back nine much more palatable and the scores proved it. I had a goal in mind to actually try and play this course "Smart" and not just bomb driver all day since this course is pretty relatively short. It started off fine until I dunked 2 balls in the water on the 4th hole en route to a !9!!!. Ouch. But followed that hole up with a great par save, then Birdie, Birdie. Had some confidence back so pulled driver on a hole that only needed hybrid off the tee. Stepped up to the tee which they had tucked on the far right side of the tee box with a tree looming right where I wanted to aim. Still I said "Nah, I can cut it around that...8 sec later my ball was landing inside some tennis courts (luckily nobody was playing on them due to the heat) and I re-teed up with my hybrid as I should have an pared the 2nd ball for a double bogey 6 giving my birdies right back..Grr.. After that I stuck to my plan and it worked out great. Went 2 under from that point on and finished the day with a 75. Was pretty happy I was able to stay in the game after the 9 and claw back to a decent round! Might have to try playing smarter more often! Here is a spreadsheet I was working on while playing (re-typed it after the round) so I can hone in on what needs work. 5 Quote Driver: M5 9.5* head set to 8* loft 3*open, weights set slightly lower Launch and fade bias 3 wood: M1 13.5* Head set open w/ Fade bias weights. twyatt700 459
Picked up a mint PXG Gen 2 0811X with an Accra shaft from 2nd swing, traded in my F8 and a few other club that were just sitting around and cost less than $100 out of my pocket! Been really happy with the performance and adjustability so far. Seemed to have picked up a few yards and the accuracy has been great! Mtbryant01 572
74 39/35 1 birdie / 14 pars / 1 bogey / 2 doubles I went out and played one of the shortest and easier courses around the area at Highlands Golf Course in downtown Bham. Par 70 with the back 9 at a par 34. The shortest par 5 was 465 and hole 1, playing as a par 4, was 270 down the hill to the flag. The only problem was that it was pouring down rain and stayed that way for 12 of the 18 holes. I was pretty happy that I only had 2 clubs go flying and 2 swings end with the club stuck in the ground. I had my driver going, at least with 3/4 swings, to prevent from it twisting in my hand or slipping out of my hand. 7 Quote G410 Plus, w/ X stiff 75 g Project X Evenflow Black shaft driver GT Tight Lies 3 & 5 wood SLDR AW - 4 iron S flex Rotex 2.0 RTX 588 56° Vokey SM7 08M 60° Newport 2.5 putter MTB X golf balls RH, Alabama
cksurfdude 7,923
My golf game is slooooowly improving but my mental game is s***. Wife and I played a short 9 and as soon as our playing partner commented, "Man these guys in front of us are slow! - this is taking a long time!" .. I seemed to totally lose my "golfing mind" and ability to focus on a shot. Could not reset and did not have as much fun out there as I really should have. Played 14 holes Sunday in the rain until I decided I really hate golf in the rain and put up a nice 73 today at Cape May National off the back tees. I put the Epic Flash Sub Zero back in the bag Saturday morning and was not aware of how many yards I was just leaving on the table. MaxEntropy 6,517
So close to a really good 9 last night, but a couple bad breaks and a mental lapse caused problems. I was +2 after 6 holes, with a double on a par 3. I missed the green right and the ball came to rest under a tree, so I had to punch, land in the rough and hope for a good bounce. It bounced too soft and trickled onto the green leaving about a 50' putt down hill, which I 3-putted. I finished the last 3 holes bogey, double, bogey for a +6 42. The second double was also a par 3. I didn't miss the green by much, but a downhill bounce away from the green left the ball nestled against a tree between 2 roots. A coupe sad efforts finally had me clear of the trees, but not yet on the green. I nearly chipped in for bogey. The mental lapse was dumb. After a nice drive, I had a partial gap wedge left, but I was so focused on how much of a swing to put on it, I did not do my usual final trigger move prior to starting my swing (that and I think I was set up too close to the ball) - hosel rocket that skipped off the cart path leaving me a third that was almost as long as the second from near the next tee. 4 Quote Driver: Tour B JGR 9.5* Recoil 460ES cut to 45" 3W: Tour B JGR 15* Recoil 460ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-PW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 AW: S5 52* SW: 588 LW: MD3 Putter: Stroke Lab Marxman Bag: Tour B Stand Bag Ball: Z-Star Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Tester Starting Driver Speed on PRGR Monitor: 102 mph Final Driver Speed (end of Level 2): 120 mph
