Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
While the forum was down I just had to go play golf. I work from home on Fridays and every Friday is a half day. Normally I'm not a mid day player but the forum made me do it! I got to the course and the parking lot was packed. I mean not a spot left. Luckily someone was just pulling out so I was in. I looked at the clubs calendar and there was't an event scheduled. Took my clubs over to the carts and loaded up. The Pro said it was just packed for some reason. So my mind set was it was going to be a long day. 10 or so guys on the practice green, 10 or so on the driving range but nobody on the tee box. Shot right over and teed off. First hole is a slight dog leg right. Hit my drive down the fairway and once I got to my ball I noticed nobody was on the green. Made par and off I went. The golf gods were with me. I must have been between packs of golfers. I was a single and never caught up to anyone and never saw anyone behind me. Got done in my usual 2-1/4 hours. One bogey and one birdie for an ever par round. Fun round though. I got to try some alternate approaches on a few holes ( different clubs off the tee and slightly different targets). But my approaches to playing the holes from last season were still better. Thats what its all about these days. Trying something different to break up the monotony of a course I've been playing for 16 years. Popular Post azstu324
81 at Toka Sticks in Mesa from the tips. Everything was firing but the putter. Usually I try not to blame poor course conditions for poor play but today I'm pulling that card. 36 putts killed me and should have been closer to 30. The greens at Toka are small but not difficult if you mind the false fronts and edges. Today they seemed to be mostly rotted out with either sporadic patches of mud or uneven lengths all around the greens. It was absolutely impossible to gage any consistent pace. I literally watched a putt leave the putter face, hit the breaks and slow way down, and then speed up again on a flat surface. And to top it all off, they punched and re-seeded over a month ago so the greens should have been pristine. LAME SAUCE! I will say that I had an amazing swing breakthrough with my drive swing. The last few rounds I've been snap hooking about half of my drives. Very uncharacteristic for me but we all know how golf has it's demons that show up unannounced at any given moment. I found these 2 videos last night that just opened up world and both my irons and driver were in point thanks to mr.shortgame #2 and #3 just completely glued my swing back together and I was finding straight effortless bombs with that beautiful "holy $hit!" trajectory This is just good stuff. I've been starting most shots with my hands pressed too far forward on all of my shots which helps some with compression, but also can really cause some serious pull draws. This just helped neutralize my entire swing producing some nice high baby draws and even some controlled fades when needed. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, ejgaudette and 7 others 10 Quote PXG 0311 Gen 5 9°/ Fujikura MotoreX F1 6X F6 3 Wood 14* / Kuro Kage Silver 65X F8 6 wood 20* / Fujikura MotoreX F3 6S RADSpeed Hybrid 24* TS1 4-GW / FCM Precision 6.5 Rifle TSW Wedge - 56/12 EAS 1.0 / Grip master 2.0 MAXFLI Tour CG

Popular Post Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Got out for my usual nine. Been a couple weeks. Shot 53. From now on after listening to the Sweetspot podcast (scratch attitude) most recent episode I am only going post my best shots from my round and relive them. hole two and three. Hit two 271 yards bombs off the tee. Likely need one more round with that shaft (Tensei blue) but likely will beat out the Ventus for me. hole 4. Long par three hit my hybrid super solid but it hooked. Has me thinking more on a 7 w. Also later in the round realized that I should have pulled my 4i instead. More later. hole 6. After a tree ricochet I had 165 left to the green (par 5). To get to the green I needed to hit a draw to get around a branch. I also took extra club so I could clear a front bunker. Well I hit the purest 6i draw ever. So good it came in hot to the green and ended up in a puddle behind the 3rd tee. Sweet feeling. hole 7. Hit a really pure 8i that would have gone back of green. Uphill par 3 playing 156. My iron distance really shot up with my swing work. hole 8. Had a pitch of 60 yards. Hit it to about 12 ft. hole 9. After drive left me 205 to center. Pulled my 4i and hit the purest shot into a 10 mph wind. Ended up behind the front right of the green. This has me thinking about getting a 3 utility or a 7w and dumping my hybrid. Really I think maybe I just need more range time. also played the whole nine with one ball more progress putting distance control was good, just didn’t make the long putts which I’m fine with, I’m no pro. played with a group of guys that were all high school buddies (not with me but each other). Was a very fun time and I enjoyed the round even though I didn’t shoot low. CarlH
Feast or famine on the course today....shot 11 over with 5 double bogeys (1 birdie, 2 bogey, 10 pars). 2 of the doubles involved a penalty (Put on in the water on #4 and shanked a 9 iron OB on #10). Syks7
Good but weird day. 45/41 86. Naverage play with crazy ending. It was a crazy week with big deadlines. Dropped off two sets of plans to the building department at noon yesterday and decided that I wanted to play in spite of the heat (98) and the lack of sleep (2 hours). To make it even more interesting I decided to play the tips. Once again, it was very slow and the three I got paired with, were great guys, but uninterested keeping pace and we very quickly ended up almost 1.5 holes behind even with me trying to hustle them along by putting out quickly and moving to the next tee. . I played pretty well but my touch was off around the greens and on the greens. Couldn't manage to get any up and downs to drop and only had a single par on the front. I played better on the back and managed an early par with one silly three putt bogey. Around hole 14 we were almost 2.5 holes behind and I only had an hour until I needed to go pick up my daughter so I politely split off from the group and quickly played the next three (all pars). Pace of play is real. Getting to 18(par5) with 30 minutes to spare I figure no problem I'm good. There was a 4some on the tee that invited me to play 18 with them and mentioned that the group in front of them was glacially slow. I figure no big deal since I now have plenty of time to spare. We proceed to sit on the tee box for the next 10 minutes as they clear driving range. They weren't bad players either. All five of us hit and drive down and wait 5 more minutes for them to clear the approach area. (So slow that the group I bailed from reaches 16, putts out, and is walking into the 17th tee box.). We all got approach and are now sitting at 100 yards out waiting for them to putt putt. At this point I have personally seen them playing the hole for about 20-25 minutes and I am starting to encorach into the buffer time I left myself to get out of there and to my daughter's school in time. Finally, they finish putting out, spend an inordinately long period of time shaking hands, and chatting. I'm biting my tongue, but finally day something as one pair moseys back to their cart in front of the green and starts tallying their card. I believe I shouted "sometime today, clear the green.". Not great, but also not totally impolite. One of the guys loses his mind. Jumps out of the cart and starts chest thumping. It looks ridiculous. I'm in no mood to get into an argument or a fight so I just rive.over to my ball thinking the guy will call it a day and leave. Nope, I look up and he's still screaming at me and stomping down the fairway toward me. Ugh. I'm not concerned, I'm big, athletic and can handle myself, but I have zero intention of getting in a fist fight at 40 years old. . He's shouting something along the lines of "if you want to talk s, back it up". Meanwhile I haven't even got out of my cart because I don't want to escalate. He's now in my face screaming and trying to get me to do something. I'm calmly saying to him dude are you really getting this angry about me telling you to clear the green? That's not normal, and you should probably speak to someone about your anger issues. His buddy is sprinting down the fairway because even he didn't realize how nutso this guy was going to go. Finally he trys to push me. I'm sitting in the cart, firmly planted , and the push causes him to fall backwards. This seems to wake him up and he's now retreating with his buddy, still spitting mad and screaming, but finally calling it a day. His buddy shouts over his shoulder that I shouldn't have said anything. Maybe not, but what I said also shouldn't have caused that kind of response especially when I never also escalated. I profusely apologize to the 4 some, hit to 20 ft, brush a birdie putt by the edge, and hit the resulting gimme in for par. Weird day, I haven't been in a situation like that in 15-20 years. (Like college bouncer days long ago) and I never realized how said and pathetic the bluster looked until yesterday. Afterwards I felt genuinely bad for the guy that something so little could cause such a ballistic response. Not long at 6300 from the tips but 4 of the 5 the par 3's ranged from 190 to 230 and two par 5's were 560 plus so it didn't seem too short. Its mostly equal travel time for each of us and we will definitely play it again. The changes I have been working on with the putting are showing improvement. The old Anser is staying in the bag. I did adjust from cross handed on longer putts to conventional after about 7 holes as I could not get the feel for speed on those longer putts. Staring at my aim spot rather than the ball worked well for hitting my line all day. Popular Post null
Shot a great 74 yesterday. Took the 50 and 54 out of the bag and put the 52 in and didn’t miss a beat. Had two penalty strokes, off the tee. One from a pull hook and one from a bomb that landed in the idle of the fairway and bounces so hard because of the lack of rain and bounced through the fairway and into a hazard. Putting was special. Had 4 birdies but could have had more. Birdied the 10th and then here are the scores and putt distances I made on the next four holes: 11- 1 inch, Par 12- 1 foot, Par 13- 3 inches, Par 14- 8 inches, Par Had looks a birdie all day today an my putter was so good, but man it could have been a personal best day. Excited to get the ChipR in play Sluggo42, CarlH, JerryB and 7 others
Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
I had a special round today. No bogies and two birdies for a 69. What made it really special were two things. The first is, I parred hole #2. Its just a bear of a hole. 200 yards to the dog leg. Then you are left with anywhere from 160 yards to 200 up a large hill playing 3 clubs longer. Its also guarded by two large bunkers and the green slopes from back to front. The second was, somehow I got between the guy mowing the greens and the guy rolling the greens. The guy mowing leaves the flag out for the guy rolling. So for 4 holes I had no flag to shoot for. I aimed for green center and hoped for the best. Of course not one flag was near the center. But I parred them all. This just shows that flag hunting isn't always the best choice when the flag is tucked in tight locations. My second putts were all less than a foot. Now for the dreaded yard work! ParFore74x
Another pretty good round for me today. I can definitely get use to this!! 44/47 for another 91. Putting hurt me today with 1 three putt and 36 total putts. Wasn’t getting into too much trouble off the tee and short irons were playing really well for the most part. Doubles on 17 & 18 were frustrating but that’s golf. Popular Post fixyurdivot
I had a chance to play Riverside and Highlands GC's in Pocatello, ID yesterday afternoon and this morning on my return trip from AZ. What a pair of fantastic, old style, parkland courses that are beautifully maintained and great tests. I walked both and they served well at stretching out my legs from the long drive. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend playing these courses. The single I played with at Riverside was doing the blue/white combo. I didn't even look at the yardage before signing up for that... 6495 yards . I managed a 41/44. To be honest, I was starting to feel a bit gassed from holes 14 on in, and forgot to grab another water at the turn. Standing up from marking my ball on #18, I started feeling dizzy. I had thought about playing a second time, but no way... walking anyway. That is too much length for me anymore - too many holes just out of reach with a solid drive and second shot. This early morning, I played Highlands and went solo. I chose the white tee and even this was on the long side at 6372. I played a Z-Star vs. a PV1. The PV1 started with B2B birdies; though one was the ugly version that involved a gutted iron that left me an 8' putt. I had two other birdies though the round and was (unbeknownst to me at the time) playing cam phasers in synch golf . Okay, not that good, but good for me . The PV1 finished with a 37/39 and the Z-Star a 40/42. I had a handful of mid iron shots that were all over the flag like white on rice. I also rolled some great putts that helped make up for the handful of holes that were just out of reach in regulation. All-in-all, a solid ball striking and level of play considering my last round was with @GrumpyGolfat Timberstone a couple weeks ago. Riverside GC Highlands GC Sounds like two good rounds on a couple of gorgeous courses. That bridge in the background on Riverside is beautiful. DiscipleofPenick
Went back out to my old home course early this morning for a 76. Had 2 birdies and some great up and downs to save par. 2 penalties on the back cost me some shots but I found the ball both times so didn't lose any. 2 notes on balls, I played the Maxfli Tour it's a really good ball, very comparable to my Z-Star. And I'm done with X balls I've tried just about all of them and not one works in the short game the way I like to play. chisag, MattF, RichL85 and 5 others 8 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star

Parred the first 6 holes and the last 6 holes, but I guess I decided to nap the middle 6 holes where I was +7... 79. I don't get it. It's time to experiment by taking a 4 min power nap on the 7th & 13th tees. cksurfdude, fixyurdivot, ejgaudette and 6 others 4 5 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition!
