He will be 90 next month and has been in COVID locked down for 7 months, so we haven't been able to visit. We could only sit with him outside for 45 minutes on Tuesday afternoon, then again on Wednesday afternoon for 45 minutes. They schedule visits for residents every hour, then clean the chairs for the next visit. So, Wednesday morning with nothing to do, we got the 1st tee time at 8:00am at Spring Hill GC in Albany, OR. This course used to be private but is now semi-private. For many years I have driven by the course wishing I could play it. A few holes front a highway that went to Albany from my mom and dad's house. This is a lovely course!! I think it was built in 1960 and has hosted the Oregon Open a few times. It's not a long course at 6500y from the tips; par 72, rating 71.7 and slope 129. I played the White tees at 5960y; 68.9/124. Never been on the course before; shot 42/37 = 79 with one birdie and NO doubles or worse!!. I was very happy with that score since I was in 5 bunkers that were very firm, wet sand; nothing like sand at my course. My wife shot a very decent 88, and had two good bunker shots as well.. Although the grass was very wet, there were no puddles. The course had been plugged and sanded recently, and there was a little sand on the greens, but they rolled quite nicely. If I lived in the area, I would join this club AND the price is very reasonable IMO. Some photos: The chipping green hadn't been mowed yet this morning!! Me on the 1st tee... Hole pics, can't remember which holes... Hole #9 looking at the clubhouse... YES, that's the clubhouse!! I was in a groove on the back nine. Here's something I can NOT do at my course... back up the ball on a green!! Normally, my ball lands on a green, maybe make a slight dent, then roll forward. Not here!! At my course this ball would have been next to the hole... but probably in the cup! The view afterwards, sitting on the patio having a couple beers. #18 green on the right; #9 green on the left, and out of the photo on the left you can watch people playing their 2nd shot all the way to the #1 green. That is a beautiful course, and that clubhouse...wow. I love that picture of the chipping green, whoever took it did a great job between the patterns on it and the sunlight filtering through the trees. I'm glad you were able to spend time with your dad after all that time of him being in lockdown. That's awesome!

Popular Post Jmikecpa 12,544
Played a tune up yesterday for a low handicap match today. Went out with a C swing at best yesterday and shot -3 with a clean card. Went out today feeling worse with my swing and shot -4 67 with one bogie. Today my partner and I shot -10 gross in the better ball and closed our match out in 14. Hoping to get one more round on this train tomorrow. Kenny B 24,022
I finally had a decent round at my course today although I still didn't drive the ball very well. I scrambled around for a +3/+3 round of 78. Chipping and putting were working better now that the greens have returned to their normal speed after aerating and sanding. One double on #11 and no birdies, but I had two sandy pars. 8 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Grand Stranded 1,428
One of those days you want to forget, My Saturday league played a game for the first time today, called Quota. Fun game that I would've enjoyed even more if I played worth a damn... For those of you not familiar with it, you subtract the number of strokes you get from 36. In my case that was 11 today which meant I needed to make 25 points to reach my quota. You go off your GROSS score on each hole, birdie 3 pts, par 2, bogey 1, double -1. It's a tough game, and I made it harder by really struggling again today with my irons. I'm dying to put my new PXG 0211's in the bag, but I thought it best to wait a couple more weeks as the next couple of Tuesdays we playoff for my Club Men's League Championship. The way I was hitting the old ones today though, maybe I should've used a right handed set. What makes it so confounding is all the other parts of my game are really sharp. I'm driving it well, my putting and wedge game are as good as can be for a player like me. I just can't hit a quality second shot. Between lost balls in water, trees, and even the rough(???), two unplayable plugged lies, it was a double bogey fest. Not sure what my actual score would've been, probably around 90-92. I only made 6 pars and a bunch of bogeys. I also picked up after double a bunch of times because of the format. ncwoz 1,590
Played my second round at a local course, hit the ball super solid (again!). My putting let me down a bit again today. Something about the greens just throws me off, cuz I was starting them on-line really well, just a lot of missed reads. Between a lot of missed putts, and 2 blow up holes, I felt like I played way better than the score suggested. Ended the round on a birdie though! 7 Quote Right Handed Driver (9°): Speedzone (HZRDUS Smoke Green 70g X-Stiff shaft) FW (15°): X2 Hot (Aldila Tour Green 75 Tx Stiff shaft) Hybrid (18°): Exotics EXS Pro (Evenflow Black 6.5) (2020 MGS Official Review here) Irons (PW-4) TS-1's (KBS $-Taper 120g Stiff shafts) Wedges (50° & 54°): TSW Forged (Dynamic Gold S300) Wedge (60°): Mack Daddy 2 Putter: ER2B (2019 MGS Official Review here) Ball: MTB-Black OR MAXFLI Tour

Greens are 12 days past plugged so putting was not good. Made 1 18 footer on 9 for birdie, other 3 birds were inside of 4 feet, and missed 2 more inside of 5. Pretty solid overall. dlow206 5,652
Played like crap on the front 9, especially the first few holes. Lost like 4 balls on the front 9, not good. On the last few holes of the front 9, and then on the back 9, i turned it around and found my swing. I now have a good idea of the feel I need to feel to make a good swing. On the back 9, made a 24 foot putt and almost made a 50 foot putt (3 inches short). Back 9 score was 48, but should have been lower, had a blowup hole with an 8. 8 Quote Follow my golf journey to break into the 80s Current tester for the Titleist TSi Driver Spring 2020 MGS Tester for the Fujikura Motore X Shaft Updated 12/27/2020 Driver: TSi 2 - Graphite Design AD-XC 6S Hybrids: SIM Max 3H, 4H - Matrix Ozik 85S Irons: ZX5 5 - PW - Nippon Modus 120 S Wedges: CBX 2 54, CBX Full Face 58 - KBS Hi-Rev S Putter: ER2
Golfspy_CG2 25,298
Played in a local FB group outing yesterday. The good first, I hit 13/14 fairways. But shot 97 Card filled with bogeys and DB Too many penalty strokes—on par 3’s and a couple par 4 approaches, that killed the round. Wedge play and putting kept it in double digits The new T100s/T200, I hit them OK, but they felt very good! ncwoz 1,590
Managed to get out for a second 18 today while the weather's still decent! 83 (+11, net -4), 6/14 FIR, 9/18 GIR (PB), 36 putts Another day of all around really good ball striking! I lost one driver OB, and one bad pulled iron shot that careened off the cart path into the water, other than that it was a super clean round. My putting again held me back just a bit though. I lipped out a TON of putts, but I was hitting my lines really well again so at least that's a positive. Just gotta get some better reads and I think I could have been 5 or 6 strokes even lower honestly. Even so, I tied my PB on this course! Had some really nice lags too. I've also been waaaay better with my long irons, which has been a game changer. Probably the first time I've ever hit two par 5 greens in 2 shots in one round. If my wife and I didn't have plans I'd be tempted to go out and play another round Great day, especially with the surprisingly nice weather! 8 Quote Right Handed Driver (9°): Speedzone (HZRDUS Smoke Green 70g X-Stiff shaft) FW (15°): X2 Hot (Aldila Tour Green 75 Tx Stiff shaft) Hybrid (18°): Exotics EXS Pro (Evenflow Black 6.5) (2020 MGS Official Review here) Irons (PW-4) TS-1's (KBS $-Taper 120g Stiff shafts) Wedges (50° & 54°): TSW Forged (Dynamic Gold S300) Wedge (60°): Mack Daddy 2 Putter: ER2B (2019 MGS Official Review here) Ball: MTB-Black OR MAXFLI Tour
Popular Post cnosil 15,527
Beautiful weather and good golf. 10 Fairways, 12 Greens, 34 Putts. 41/35:76. Hit the ball really well today and was able to keep my swing under control all day. Couple of irons were pull hooks, but generally the ball was going on a good line. Still a few struggles with the short game, 0 up and downs on the 6 missed greens. Shot of the day was 10th hole, ball was at the bottom of bermuda rough, ball was below my feet, 148 to middle of green, 155 to pin. Perfect contact; when I got to the green, I thought the ball had rolled off the green because I didn't see the ball. goaliedad30 52
Didn't play today, but played yesterday. Two-man scramble, net event. Requirement for 6 tee shots from each player. We finished even par gross. On my own ball ... I was even! My poor partner had such a difficult day. Longest putt he made was 2 feet. All over the course. I didn't even get to hit a tee shot on 18 ... we HAD to use his, whevever it went. Maybe the best shot he hit all day ... 230, down the middle. My 6-iron layup and a 9-iron to 18" made for a nice closing birdie. I truly felt bad for him ... he was so frustrated, and couldn't find anything. At least net we were T-4 in our flight ....
Popular Post MattF 9,887
Played very poorly yesterday for a 93. Had no idea with the driver until the last 3 holes which I finished +1. Learned quite a bit about my set up from those last three holes that I'll take with me when I play on Friday. I was paired up with a father and son. The boy plays for my local high school team and was playing a practice round for a tournament at the club today. That kid can hit the ball a mile. He was hitting 3 wood off the tee from the blues (I play the whites) and on my best straightest drive was longer by 20+ yards. 12 Quote In the bag: Driver: TSi2 Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 6.0 Fairway: 939X 15° Project X Even Flow Blue 6.0 Hybrid: TBA Irons: D7 Forged 4-GW Project X Catalyst 80 6.0 Wedge: Smartsole S Putter Tracy Bag: Alpha Convoy 514 Balls: MTB-X or Black Cart: CaddyLite ONE Ver. 8 God Bless America, God save the Queen, God defend New Zealand and thank Christ for Australia!
