Of course I hadn't ever thought about the differences in certain regions until recently. I saw a post by Pete Pappas on Twitter and the grass in Ohio is already green. This is what we get.. I get exited to play and when I turn into the course I see the brown grass it just gets me a little depressed. Its also a little tough to play off of. Everything in the fairway is a tight lie. 8 Quote Driver, TSi1 10* Stiff Flex 3 Wood, SLDR HL 17* R Flex 5 Wood, SLDR 19* R Flex 7 Wood, F6 22.5* R Flex 939x 5 hybrid Irons, 699 Pro's S Flex (6 - AW) JB Wedge 56* Wedge, CBX 60* Putter, Marksman Fang 35"
Popular Post Shapotomous
I got out for the first 18 of the year today....on mostly brown grass. I had 10 pars, 4 doubles and 4 bogeys. The greens are still real bumpy and slow, lots of bare spots. They are supposed to aerate them and sand / seed them next week. I hope they fill in this spring. 10 Quote Modern Bag: 849 Pro 9*, Accra Tour Z M5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 15*, & 23* Hybrids; JPX 900 Forged 5 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Raw 50*, Nippon Tour 120 X; SM9 54* / 10* / S, Wedge Flex ; Tour Action 57*, PX LZ 6.5; Ancient Anser or Heppler Fetch (depends on the week); Ball - MTB-Black; Bag - H2NO Shot Scope H4, MG600 Rangefinder Classic Bag: Driver - Persimmon; 3w - Speed Slot; 5w - Tour Block; 3 - pw - Dynapower; sw - Ram Tom Watson; putter - bullseye standard or flange. The fairways go dormant after first frost and then start to turn green again after there are no more frost mornings. Should start turning green in about two to three weeks. The greens are a different grass as well. They are green all year. I love playing on dormant bermuda; better than when it's green actually. The turf in the fairway was like hitting off a bristle brush; the ball sat up so nice. Good for a beginner 20 some years ago!! fozcycle
Today was a cold (50’s) kinda day. A bogey kinda day, except for my one Birdie on the Par 5 #8 hole. Popular Post Kenny B
What an interesting couple of rounds this weekend here at home. On Friday my wife and I drove down to Albany Oregon to spring my dad out of rehab after he fell on Christmas Day, cracking his pelvis and 2 vertebrae in his neck. We moved him up here so he could be close to us. We left at 5am, drove 290 miles, picked up dad, then drove 290 miles home. Got here about 4pm. Then we had a 7:38am tee time on Saturday. It was cold and windy; 44º with winds 15-30 mph. I shot 44/40; didn't have a double bogey or worse!! I had 4 putts longer than 6 feet that I made to save bogey, otherwise my score could have been a lot worse. Today was a little warmer and the wind was only 10-15 mph. Still not very good on the front nine; shot 43 with one double. However, I started hitting some better shots on the back nine; had birdies on #11 and #14 and shot 36... so a round of 79. This is my first sub-80 round this year. The way I've been playing lately, I was beginning to think I didn't have any more rounds in the 70's in me!! 12 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

revkev
A few days late but on Wednesday I got out and shot a best ever score of 85! Didn't really do anything incredible, just played pretty solid golf and was able to scramble when I did get in trouble. No birdies, but only one triple, two doubles, and a bunch of pars and bogeys. Putting is normally my strongest part but had been miserable recently (one round with three 4-putts) but felt good again. Chipping was solid and left myself with some short ones which led to 5 holes with 1 putt or less and 31 total putts for the round. Previous best was 87 and going to par 5 18th at 79 really wanted to get 85. Don't think I hit a shot more than 100 yards on that hole but got up and down for bogey. Now I just need to get in enough work with driver so I can hit that off the tee instead of 3-wood every time!Good for you!Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy 2 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 10.5 Aldila Ascent Red R flex Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Wilson D7 forged 5-GW - Mamiya recoil 460 R flex SCOR 52, 56 Ping Glide 3.0 Ping Eye 2 grind 58.8 L.A.B. Popular Post NRJyzr
Had quite the interesting round yesterday. First round of the year at "my course," which opened for the season the day before. Shot an 86, which I'm actually quite pleased with. Why, you ask? Or even if you don't ask, LOL.... we had steady 25mph winds yesterday, gusting higher. I saw a 43mph gust was recorded in the Twin Cities. So yeah. An 86 is quite lovely. The wind was from the south. An interesting aspect of this course is that there are more holes playing from north to south than from south to north. Adding to that, my friend and I both seemed to never get much benefit from the tailwind shots. Into the wind, it was 3 to 4 clubs but downwind, we didn't even get a full single club assistance. Wind was such that it knocked the shots down instead of pushing them. Oh well. Overall, a good time, but I think I'd be fine forgoing conditions like that for a couple months. Popular Post cksurfdude
More good news to report... Got in the second 9-hole round of this season on an incredible Spring-like day - so, yeah, *everyone* was out and the round was kinda slow .. our start time was pushed back like 20 minutes - but I was hitting the ball pretty well so it was all good! Two firsts for me: 1. missed a green long on the fly (8i and GPS watch said 154 to back edge .. slightly downhill and downwind); 2. drove a green (4W from just over 200 and ball rolled onto the front). Also hit or nearly hit most other greens; iron and wedge play are really starting to show good improvement. Of course, all this wonderfulness had to be counter-balanced by something - had trouble matching up line + speed while putting... Felt like most of my strokes made were on my intended line but burned a bunch of edges; had one total mis-read on a birdie chance where the ball rolled in the total opposite direction when it got near the cup (made the par save .. whew!). 3-putted a few times, too - which I kinda "expect" on this course with its very sloped and contoured (aka treacherous, deceiving, conniving) greens. But offset that with a few decent lag putts up and over some of those maniacal slopes Oh, PS: My lovely wife / golfing partner .. who claims she's not competitive yet beat me soundly in our on-going putting contest = fewer putts per round .. won the right to buy happy hour! 11 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... ..PXG Gen5 0811XF (PX EvenFlow Riptide CB 50/5.0 or Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue 45/A) ..Callaway Bertha Mini 1.5 (UST ProForce V2-HL 5/F3) ..Callaway Rogue ST Max OS 4H (PX Cypher Black 50/5.0) ..Callaway Big Bertha 5H (Recoil ZT9 460/F3) ..PXG 0211 6i-GW (Mitsubishi MMT 60/A) ..Cleveland CBX2 54 and CBX 60 (Rotex graphite) ..EvnRoll ER5 or MLA XDream (..Edel EAS 4.0 on the bench) ..all in a Datrek bag on an MGI Zip Navigator electric cart. That's what we're all about. Its not as heavy as I thought it would be with the battery. I guy at my club had an older competitor model and it took two people to get it out of the trunk. It used a car type battery. Technology, got to love it. Still pretty pricey at roughly $1500 though. I would also need the down hill automatic braking feature.
