Kenny B
On 4/8/2021 at 5:01 PM, Kenny B said: Oh so close...!!! Dang it!! Got a call yesterday from my buddy that plays on a different course in town; the one I sometimes sub for their game of Wolf. Their course was closed for the plugging and sanding that my course went through last week. They needed a fourth for their Wolf game today and it was going to be at MY course!!! I played on Sunday and shot 78 so I was feeling pretty good about my game, but I went to the range on Tuesday and I sucked at hitting anything. So what will show up today? The 3 other guys are all about the same skill level as I am; 2 of them have a lower HI index; one is a little higher. The temp was mid-50's and the wind was 15-20 with higher gusts. I only hit 8 of 13 fairways and 4 GIR, BUT I birdied three of those holes; #4, 14 and 17. I was +3 of the front nine and -1 on the back nine for my best score in a few years... 74, and one shot over my age!!! Hole #14 is a risk/reward par4 that is drivable for the big hitters. I usually lay up, but today with the wind I decided to try to drive it over a hazard and large sand trap; came up short but in the sand a foot from the elevated green, and 30 yards short of the pin. I hit my 54º wedge to 2 feet for a sandy birdie on a par 4!!! There were a couple of holes that could have been a lot better... like the par 5 #6 hole where I hit a tree and had a double sandy bogey. I could have shot my age!! In a month it would be good enough!! I rarely beat the two guys with a lower index, especially on their course, but on my course I have an advantage. They shot 78 and 79... the other guy shot 88. I sent and email about my round to my coach, Monte Scheinblum, who I spent 3 days with a couple of weeks ago. He posted it on his Instagram page!!! https://www.instagram.com/p/CNcxsL4Ma-B/ Attending a Monte clinic is a treat and well worth the investment in your golf game. cksurfdude, CarlH, MattF and 4 others 7 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Popular Post MrBandit
Well it was 100% tale of two 9. Playing first day of a 2 day Tournament. I hurt my back on Monday so it's a tough go this week. I can swing just enough without hurtling my back. Front was a struggle to find a decent swing. By the 8th hole was starting to find something decent.. After a disastrous front 9.. Grind out a 1under 35 on the back.. Which I missed 3 birdies opportunity from 10-12 feet that just missed New driver Tour Edge EXO pro.. Is legit.. Hit the ball further than with my G410 and it fought to stay straight even when I was trying to make a bad swing. What I take about this round was I didn't mail it in after the front 9 and battle on the harder 9. Popular Post tony@CIC
I planted some shrubs around our condo yesterday. Being retired and slightly tight in the wallet, I decided to use a trowel I had in the garage instead of buying a shovel. What does that have to do with how you played today? I didn't realize I had gotten a blister in the middle of my palm from the trowel - which made itself known when it broke on the first hole today. Popular Post CarlH
A horrendous day!! Well, the back 9 was. Shot a 38 on the front with a double bogey, ripped a drive on #10 down the middle and then disaster!!! Pulled my 6 iron to the left, leaving a tree blocking most of the green, so I went to punch out to the high side of the green, but hit the tree anyway. It bounced backwards, and my next shot went long over the green. Got down with a triple bogey 7. And that's not the worst that happened!!! Another double on @12 and another on 14 and again on 15 (15 was at least a lost ball...the other two were just bizarre ball striking). But on a reachable par 5 #16, it was even more hilarious! Nice drive to the middle of green with 175 yards to the pin and I almost miss the ball. It travels about 50 yards to the left, sort of behind a tree, but open to the green . Knock the next shot into the pond, take a drop and the next ball hits the bank and bounces into the pond again. Drop another ball and hit it long and then proceed to 4 putt the green! Wrote down an 11! (We had a medal game going on). You guessed it -- another double on 17! All of this is due to just insanely bad iron and wedge play. Well, remember that 38 on the front? How about a 56 on the back!!!! Adjusted 6 strokes and posted an 88 for my handicap score. OH EM GEE!!!! Glad none of you guys know me ... I'm really embarrassed by that back nine! Popular Post NRJyzr
Played today in an event for my course's Men's Club. It was a two man best ball, partners drawn at random. Had an interesting day. Made two birdies on the front nine. Followed those with three doubles in the next five holes. Developed a clue after, missed a couple chances, made a birdie on the lone par 5 on the back, limped in with a couple bogeys in last three holes for a 77. Three birds, three doubles. Smooth and consistent! The nice extra... these events have skins pots as an option, both gross and net. Decide to get in both. Turns out, I had the only birdie on that back side par 5. Its the #4 handicap hole, so I got a stroke. And no one with a 22+ hdcp got a par on it. One sixth the gross skins pot, one quarter of the net skins pot. Popular Post ejgaudette
First one off this morning and played in a tidy 2.5 hours walking. Went 39/40 for a 79 on my usual course. Started off really well with only a dumb club selection on the second hole resulting in my lone bogey in the first right holes. Then doubled the ninth and had to hold on to close under 80. Driver started off nice on the first nine but got erratic on the second. Also this course has about 5 tee shots where driver is not an option and really have to use a hybrid and I hit one of them good. The rest not so much, though funny the two par threes on the front were long with pins in the back shelf of both and hit perfect hybrids and pared both. Overall a good round. Played my shot patterns and distances right which led to way more greens then I normally hit, just no scrambling (admittedly my weakest skill). Just need to keep the focus and in the moment thinking I had on the first 8 holes or so. Finally, distance control was excellent on lag buts with the Cleveland HB SOFT 11s, might be something too that face tech. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
I was the first one off this morning. Struggled keeping my drive in play for the first time in a long time. But not bad just off the fairways. Second shots were just ok. Some hit some misses on the approach shots to the green, which put a lot of pressure on the short game. Luckily it was spot on. Any shots from 100 yards and in I put less than 10 feet from the pin and made all the putts. Still pulled off a very respectable 71 even though it felt much worse. Two birdies off-set the two bogies. Got done just before the wind picked up. Popular Post ncwoz
Got out early enough Friday to sneak in 18 before it got dark. New to me course, and starting off it was probably 15-20mph winds with gusts even higher. It was also the first round I was really trying to get Arccos working, and I was having all sorts of problems the first 9. Had me a little flustered the first few holes, so after 3 I decided to just scrap it and play. By the time I started the back I tried again and it worked much better. The wind also died down, which was nice. My putting was great and short game felt pretty solid, but I was really shaky off the tee. A few spots was just being unfamiliar with the course, but I put myself in a lot of tough spots for good approaches. Did feel like I settled in to the back 9 well, and even with 2 easily avoidable doubles I scored pretty well. 41:41; 82 (+10, net +1) FIR: 1/13 GIR: 3/18 Putts: 28 Really happy with the round, it was a good mix of really solid shots and some spots I know I can still improve. I did end up getting Arccos to cooperate on the back 9, and manually filled in the front 9. I was curious to see Arccos' analysis about my round relative to what I felt. My handicap breakdown was: Driving - 11, Approach - 18, Short Game - 15, Putting - +5. I'm surprised my driving number wasn't worse than approach, but not sure if maybe that's just where I ended up with some of my shots. I had a good chunk of drives that weren't hugely offline, but I was blocked from the green by trees. Anyways, happy with the round and excited for some more Arccos analysis of my game! Hoping it can work a little smoother going forward as well. edingc, MattF, Kenny B and 7 others 10 Quote Right Handed Driver: 9° Speedzone (HZRDUS Smoke Green 70g X-Stiff shaft) 2 Hybrid: 18° Exotics EXS Pro (Evenflow Black 6.5) (2020 MGS Official Review here) 3/Driving Iron: 18° UiHi Iron (MMT Utility TX 105g shaft) Irons: 4-GW T100 irons (Nippon Modus 120 X-Stiff shafts) (2021 MGS Official Review here) Wedges: 54° & 58° TSW Forged (Dynamic Gold S300) Putter: ER2B (2019 MGS Official Review here) Ball: MAXFLI Tour X Bag: Hoofer Lite WITB thread here
