MrBandit
New swing changes are coming along nicely, I need to work on my tempo am still a little quick with my lower body, creating a bit of an over draw. BUT, i have started to hit more GIR which has been my weakest stat, which normally I have overcome that with my short game.(hence I practice chipping and putting 3 times a week) And for the first time, I have had 2 back to back rounds in the 70s, which is also a positive. Maybe by next year this changes will be more natural and I don't have to think about positions and turns. Popular Post MH15
Played my first ever scramble, had 4 guys with varying levels of play trying to shoot as low as possible. Team was myself and one other (unofficial handicaps) at about 16 strokes, 2 others with around 11. Played the tips at 6500 yds and 71.3/124 Par 72. We shot a 68 with the following stats: 5 FW; I personally think this was one of the parts that needed the most improvement. We had quite a few instances of guys trying to be heroes and hit the 300 yd drive down the middle. It maybe happened once! (We did decide to take a few shots closer to the pin in the rough over some fairway layups though) 14 GIR; We maybe put 4 of these within 8 feet. That could be generous though. Led to a lot of 2 putting. 29 Putts; We only 1-putted for the 4 birdies - no bogeys or 3 putts which was nice. Overall, I really liked the challenge. We aimed to get to 6 under par, but fell just short. Personally, I hit 2 of the 4 birdie putts, one of which was about a 12 footer. I was first to putt on most holes as I was able to give everyone the line as the weakest putter. The other chance more than likely would've been drained by a teammate, but I guess we'll never know! I also really enjoyed the scramble because it put a lot into perspective; I got to see how this group of 4 (that I play with almost every weekend) reacts to the same shots, which I found to be even more fun. Excited to mix this into our normal cadence of weekend golf! cksurfdude, BallsLeon, Dibb and 8 others 11 Quote D : Cobra LTDx Max FW : Stealth 3 Fairway + Big Bertha #7 Hybrid (lol, I know) Irons : Too Old (Cobra AMP Cell 4-GW) Wedges : Need Some Recs! Popular Post Dibb
Played a local Muni around me this last Saturday. Shot an absurdly high score at 96 (haven't shot in the 90's in a while), but really didn't feel that way mentally. I would say it was one of my better mental rounds, even though I wouldn't consider myself an angry person on the course, more so just serious. After reading another forum and taking in what was being said, I was able to smile more and just enjoy the game regardless of score. I focused on just trying to shape the ball going into greens or off the tee (which I've never really been able to do with a driver) even it wasn't the right shot to hit. It was fun being able to just have fun and not take it so seriously. This next weekend, I hope to really focus in and take that same mentality and execute shots when I need too. fixyurdivot
41/40 at Desert Springs. Up until about 2 months ago I would have been quite happy with that score... funny how quickly our standards can change . Three 3 putts, several left pulls on approaches, mediocre short pitch DTP, and several missed birdie chances contributed. But, I did hit one of the best 4i approaches I can recall. 181 yards on a rope leaving me 12 feet for birdie... that I missed. I'm also seeing improvement in my 3w strikes and ball flight. Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I were joined by another couple kids from work, Timmy and Evan, and we played Bliss Creek yesterday near Aurora. Awesome course! Definitely vaults to near the top of our list. Nice halfway house at the turn, course was well-maintained, and challenging. Not the place to just bombs away with the driver. Need to hit your spots, and the greens were very small. Probably wasn't the best place to take our friends who just took up golf this year, lol. But despite a couple of rough patches, they played well enough, both had a couple of really good shots, and had a good time. After a couple of double bogeys to start, I went on a tear, going +1 over the next six holes, including a birdie on five, and actually driving through the green on the par four seventh. Heat started getting to me a bit with another couple of doubles, then a 3 putt bogey on a par 3. Got another birdie on 13 before a triple on 14, then bogeys the rest of the way. Owen also had a rough first two holes before settling in, getting par or bogey the rest of the way. Owen shot 85 and I was right behind him with an 87. sirchunksalot, Sluggo42, fixyurdivot and 7 others 10 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter

Popular Post MaxEntropy
I just got back from a trip to Missouri to see the in-laws and play a couple rounds of golf with friends from grad school. On Thursday, we played Eagle Knoll a bit south of Columbia. I had only played it a couple times "back in the day" but had a great time. The course was in great shape and has a TON of elevation changes, making club choice tricky at times. I shot a 41/45 with a double on the front and a double and a quad (on a par 5) on the back. I will take that score all day long with +8 coming on 3 holes. Friday, we were able to get on the Country Club of Missouri in Columbia. Absolutely beautiful course, in my opinion. There are a couple strange holes on the back that I would play differently having played them once, but it was hard to figure out from the tee, even with the benefit of a satellite view. The rough was very penal, so that added some strokes for me. Around the green I was terrible, even though I have had a very good short game this season. I blame the rough - it was thick and grabbed the clubs badly when needing to be delicate, so I had to try to convince myself to hit the ball harder than my instinct told me. I had a couple double-chips just to get it out of the rough and onto the green. Shot a 40 on the front (thanks mostly to better-than-normal iron play) with 2 birdies and a 47 on the back. Here is the 17th hole.... After hitting a "safe" shot, just for kicks I tried to go for it. I hit the ball pretty solid and it was on a good line to reach the closest point, but I never found it. If it missed, it could not have missed by much. I wish I could have seen where it landed, but the small tree and the island obscured our view as it was coming down right on that line. JerryB
Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights yesterday. The hooks were creeping into my iron shots again which put me in a few tight spots. Had a great drive on 14 that left me about 125 out and it took me five more shots to put it in the hole, which was a little frustrating. On 15 I hit a monster drive but it was offline and wound up in the creek that crosses the adjacent fairway. Inside about 50 yards and putting were a little dicey. Due to excessive rain the past week they had not cut the grass in the rough. 2 days ago they did and the heavy thatch looked like a hay field before baling. My ball rolled under the thatch and it would have taken an hour to uncover it. Next hole I teed off and I walked up to the forward tees where my partner was getting ready to hit when he turns his cart around and heads back towards me. He yells at me that he lost his clubs!! Mind you there is a 100 yard diff between the 2 tees and I didn't notice any clubs along the way. He went back to the previous green and sure enough there they were, laying beside the path. So Yeah. One heck of a day. Can’t be beat Favorite shot of the day was a 7 iron (which isn't necessarily mid-to-long) but into a 174 yard green with water guarding front and sand to the left, sticking that to 7 feet felt special. Popular Post MaxEntropy
Had a case of the lefts off the tee in league tonight. Made for a long evening. A steady diet of punch shots to try to get back into position. As bad as a I felt like I played, I carded a 45, so it could have been worse. Can’t be beat ... Amen to that! A great drive guarantees nothing. A really good putt may not go in. But sticking any iron inside of 2 feet is a 99.99% guaranteed birdie or eagle. Although punching out after a bad drive and sticking an iron inside 2 feet to save par is a pretty good feeling too.
