Josh Parker
3 hours ago, chisag said: ... Been a real run lately with one round even par and 5 rounds under par 69-70-69-71-71. I think I went almost 2 months without shooting under par as my shoulder and knee were causing some issues. At least I hope that sounds like a good excuse. Started off yesterday as well as I can with a birdie on one after pulling my opening drive into the adjoining fairway then hit a 5 iron to about 8 feet and made the putt. Just missed birdies on 2 and 3 lipping out twice on the high side reading too much break. Then hit into a fairway bunker too close to the lip and had to wedge out resulting in my only bogie but followed that up with an eagle. #8 I blocked a drive that calls for a 225 carry over water , so far right I was on the 18th tee box. Blocked by trees I hit my 58* to what I guessed was 65 yds and was 25 get above the hole, then rolled in the putt for what was a most unlucky birdie. ... Played with two of my regular snowbird pards. Brahm on my right is from Canada and max's his legal US stay through winter and plays everyday Mon-Fri. I usually join him but sometimes I take a Tues or Thurs off. Paul on my left is a Chicago snowbird and he went through a devastating cancer treatment this summer for an inoperable lump in his throat. Chemo and radiation and it was brutal. But he came out cancer free and two subsequent check ups have come back negative. Silver lining is he lost 63lbs. Blue collar down to earth guy that would do anything for his friends. Love him to death. Congrats man! Josh Parker
Played this afternoon and was a good front 9 with a 1 over from my normal tees. Had a double on the 2nd, a par 5. Hit a good drive but ran thru the fairway and had to punch out. Birdied the 7th to take a stroke back. Back 9, the weather dropped and was 34° and the wind picked up and struggled. Ended up 5 over on the back with another double on my least favorite par 5 and had 1 birdie. Glad I got to play because the next 4 or 5 days look bad. BallsLeon
7° F outside, so more sim rounds. Played Royal Melbourne again but the East Course (72/135, 6595yds) this time, turned firmness all the way up on greens/fairways, and breezy. Managed to shoot a 90 (51 out, 39 in), my best 9 hole score yet, and 6 strokes better then when I played West course last week. The front was a bit of a slog, with all the usual suspects: driving woes, tree trouble, and green side struggles. Playing match play with my friend, he was 3 up at the turn. So, I tried my best to not think about the front 9 and just try to do my best with each shot in front of me and it worked out! Had 2 birdies (one hole out from 60yds), 2 doubles, 1 bogey, and finished the match 2 up. Was in the groove after that, closed out the next match on hole 12. cksurfdude, cnosil, Josh Parker and 5 others 8 Quote Driver : Rogue ST Max LS, 10.5° loft, MCA TENSEI AV White 65g, Stiff flex (44.5", Draw setting) 3-Wood: Rogue ST LS, 15° loft, MCA TENSEI AV Blue 65g, Reg flex (42.25", tipped 0.5") 3-Utility: 699 Pro V2 Utility Satin, 18° loft, HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 80g, 5.5 flex Irons: T200 6i-GW, 27°-48° lofts, Nippon Modus3 120g, Stiff flex (+0.25”, 1° upright) Wedges: Indi FLX S-Grind, 52°/56°/60° lofts, Dynamic Gold Spinner 115g, Wedge flex Putter: King Vintage Sport 60, SteelFiber P125 shaft (34"), Quad Tour Taper grip Bag: Ultralight Pro, Ski Patrol/Black Push Cart: Nitron, Black/Red Rangefinder: Bushnell Tour V5 Shift 2023 MGS Forum Review: Sugar Golf Balls (Final Review Posted) 2023 MGS Forum Review: Sycamore 009 Mini Putter (Final Review Posted) -TJ
Fongle
Went to a Top Golf range near me with a mate, that has a practice green for putting/chipping as well. Michael.Sandoval33
Hey spies! I decided to hit my first 18 hole course today instead of staying inside. I played Heartwell GC in a Long Beach, CA. It is an 18 hole, par 3. A little tidbit: El Tigre The Goat used to play here growing up. Before the score, Some genius got drunk and stole the ball collector, then proceeded to ruin the course with it. (I have photos but don't want this post to be tremendously long, might post them in a general post about it) Edit: I am back to actually speak about the round. Through the front 9 it rained sparacticaly, I made it through that stretch ok. I found myself pulling left on my first shots the entire course, and it has seemed to have developed into a fairly common issue for me. I will be looking to correct that. Now, my 2nd shots were more consistent this go, I found a video tip yesterday regarding striking with the sand wedge which translated well to my 60°. The putting was a really rough go, as I practiced before I knew they were running slow, but I underestimated how slow. Overall, I was happy to have finally played an 18 (yes a par 3). And took plenty of notes. Thanks for reading! EnderinAZ
Played a mediocre round yesterday. Some fantastically long drives followed up with shots that went wide or long at the green. Michael.Sandoval33
Another day at Bixby Village in Long Beach (my 4th 9-hole, and I have an 18-hole on the books. Waiting on SwingU to calculate my Handicap). It was a wet one out there to be expected, thankfully I had my waterproofs. I have to admit that I 3 putted a lot more than I anticipated as the greens were like doorstops. But, I make no excuses. Per usual, I had shots miss and pull to the left, I am still working on it but unfortunately, no ranges are open today. Shaved another 3 off from my previous 46. Slowly getting better in each facet but noticing the mistakes and keeping small notes. Thanks for all of the help, advice and support everybody! I am going to continue working on my game and February is looking to be a big year in that aspect. Michael.Sandoval33
Quick notes for today: Played Heartwell GC once again. They are fixing the course fast which is amazing to see. On Saturday I shot a 78 there, today came out with a 73. So again, slowly shaving off strokes here at this little par 3 course. Pulling to the left is still an issue, after the course I went to the range and worked on it for a while. It is improving but still there. Besides that, some misreads on the green took me out and that was the day. Overall felt pretty good, I was consistent in both my good and bad tendencies today and I will continue to tweak those issues. I just wish there was an easy fix for the pulling. Popular Post Syks7
Another good 9. I'm itching to get out for 18, but have been a bit unlucky and have had to cancel several. 38 for 9 holes. +2. The good run continues, I think in part to a change in my course management. I had an epiphany a couple weeks back while playing in heavy wind that when I'm hitting into the green I'm hitting into it for a result -- not to hit a particular yardage. It doesn't really matter what club I hit or how long I hit my 7 iron so long as I get the end result I'm looking for. I've been clubbing up to make sure I cover and focusing more on flight and it's made a huge difference. That combined with the DF2.1, which continues to be a birdie/up and down machine (to me), and a much more enjoyment focused attitude seems to be yielding the results I was stressing myself out chasing. Go figure. Over the 99 holes I've played this year I'm averaging 1.27 birdies a round, 10 pars, 5.8 bogeys, and .72 Bogey + per 18 holes. Its vastly different than last year. I'm going to try entrench myself in this mental spot I seem to have found myself in and never leave. jbern
Played a St. Andrews Old Course simulator round last night with some friends. The best part was that we turned one putts on when we hit the greens! haha If you aren't familiar with St. Andrews Old Course, the greens are ENORMOUS. So scores were low and everyone was pretty giddy the whole night. I shot a -15, 57 with 5 pars, two eagles and the rest birdies. If only I could one putt every hole in outdoor golf The highlight shot for me was driving the 309 yd 12th hole to 3.8 ft. If you're just messing around with friends, I'd highly recommend playing St. Andrews Old Course with one-putts on when you hit the greens. Shot an 86 but took an 8 on a par 4. Water ball on my second shot (hero shot I should not have taken) then into the greenside trap which I took 2 to get out. Two putts and write me down for an 8. On the other side of the coin I had 2 drives that leaked off the fairway. One rolled clean through as the fairway dogged left the other rolled just off to the point where my feet were on the green grass to make the next shot. The rest stayed in the green grass. I putted well, making 4 putts in the 10 to 15 foot range though only one of those for birdie. Everything 6 feet and shorter found the bottom of the cup in one fluid movement. Had a couple of pitches in the 60 to 80 yard range that got long on me but I chipped well enough to come back and save par both times. BallsLeon
Another sim round last night, played Royal St. George’s this time from the “Medal” tees (70/133, 6628yds) with firmness all the way up, medium pins, and strong breeze. Really interesting course, with the contours/rolls/wind all manipulating the ball making shot selection pretty challenging. Was pretty happy with myself managing to play bogey golf for a 45 on the front, but couldn’t keep that pace on the back. Hole 13 I finally had my first introduction with one of the green side pot bunkers, attempted the escape but hit the bunker wall and had to play back out only to have Trackman 3 putt me from 10ft . On my heels, hole 14 was probably the worst hole to follow up with OB running the whole length of the right fairway, and creek bisecting the fairway. Managed to go OB twice and creek once, truly a diabolical hole especially with a left to right wind. Feeling thoroughly beaten by St. George I limped through the final holes for a 55, 100 total. Pot bunker attempt pictured below. Edit: Scoring question. In the Trackman app for my round the gross score is 100 with par 70, but under the handicap section it lists the round score as 95, 19.1 diff, and par is shown as 72.5 here. How is that 95 determined? Is that because I had holes greater than quad bogey? I know it is not net as I get a stroke a hole currently at 17.8 hcp. This is my thought: https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/handicapping/world-handicap-system/World-Handicap-System-5-Things-You-Need-to-Know.html 3. Net Double Bogey. The maximum hole score for each player will be limited to a Net Double Bogey. This adjustment is more consistent from hole to hole than the Equitable Stroke Control procedure. Net Double Bogey is already used in many other parts of the world and the calculation is simple: Par + 2 + any handicap strokes you receive.
