Syks7
Ponied up the dough to go play Angeles National. I was hoping for a 3 hour round since it's usually empty because of the price. Looked that way for 4 holes, but was not that way after that. Still finished in 4:15 so not all bad. On a whim I played from the blue tees which pushed me into long iron range on approach for most of the day. Because of this, I only had two GIR (both of my pars) and spent a large amount of time in the greenside bunkers Jack likes to sprinkle around his greens. I was on the bogey train and wasn't able to get off. I feel like I played really well (72/136), I just could not get an up and down putt to drop. I probably made 18ish feet of putts today on 34 putts. Pace was great, lines was mostly good, but they had the pins in spots today that took hard dives right and left about a foot from the cup -- A little frustrating. Overall though it was a good day. I hit some really good bunker shots (8 I think). I also hit some really good approach shots that were just a tad bit off line and I got punished because of it. Angeles National is growing on me and I think knowing the greens is more important for approach than it is for putting. I think I'll be able to score well as soon as I can figure out where to miss. Big moose
Played agave highlands in cornville az. Course was in ok shape but the greens were way too slow. Shot 89 with a double and a triple. Jacob10
On 3/21/2024 at 10:40 AM, Jacob10 said: I slipped out for 9 after work on Monday (3/18); it was mid 40s and steady 15 mph winds gusting over 30. I got off the tee fine and putted well, but I never really felt comfortable with full irons or wedges. Which was odd with how solid my ball striking has been so far this year. I honestly considered leaving the course after 3 consecutive mishits on the same hole (par 3), but momma didn't raise a quitter. I scraped around with a 45 on 15 putts, which is my worst 9-hole score at my home course in years. Golf, like life, has a way of humbling us real quick. Hoping to slip out early on Friday to see if I can get back in the groove of hitting solid iron shots. I have been a feel player since I picked up the game, but I am thinking it may be time to consider some sort of analysis on my setup, alignment, and ball position. I just don't want to be to dogmatic and take the fun out just going out and hitting the ball, but it is no fun going from flushing it to borderline shanks either. Much better day today. berkeleybob
Today was my first time out this year. I played at the my usual 9-hole course twice, and I ended up plus +12 of the “front” nine and +10 on the back. My putting was nothing special, especially as I was using my new putter on overseeded greens. (I’m not an expert on green maintenance terms.) However, I holed out twice chipping with an 8-iron. And in dramatic fashion, I scrambled the last hole by hitting a lob with a ball nested in an overgrown bit of rough overhanging the bunker and landing and rolling within 3 feet of the hole. I mean, that’s what I wanted to happen. I’m just amazed that it happened. On my next round I’ll have to play the Full Swing soundtrack in my earbuds. Michael.Sandoval33
9 holes this morning at Bixby Village GC, I love the variety of this course and I have officially begun to call it my home course. I shot +7 today, 4 strokes away of shooting my age (33 ). The Qi10 was actually used on all 3 par 4 holes today due to tee placement which was great. I hit 1/3 fairways, but my misses were not too far wayward and I was set up rather well, as the 2 missed were shorter dog legs. My wedges were killer today. Putting was down from my past 2 outings but no 3 putts on the card today. HeathS16
Took a short out to western Oklahoma and played 2 courses. Played Roman Nose Golf Course, on State park land. Fun little course and the total was $30, tough being in early Spring conditions but I would recommend. A buddy and I then headed all the way out to Woodward to play Boiling Springs Golf Club. Another course on state park land. It was AWESOME, already scheming when I can go back. Played OK at Roman Nose and shot an 86. I shot +4 ( 39) over the front 9 at Boiling Springs, then the wheels fell off on the back 9 with a nice and tidy 52! Granted I was playing with borrowed Irons (The weight in my i210s had fallen out and were being replaced) and the wind was gusting up to 35 mph but still...no excuse for that one, golf is hard. Popular Post BallsLeon
Walked Tomahawk Hills this morning, the closest municipal course to my place. Last year, this course routinely kicked my ass, but today was different. Starting from the back 9, I played the white tees (Par 70, 5514yds, 66.6/113), shooting a 78 (34 out/44 in)* with 28 putts. Weather was chilly, around 33-42°F, with an 8mph win out of the east. While it's not the longest/hardest course in KC, the dense tree line, blind shots, narrow fairways, and firm greens make this course punch above it's weight in my opinion. Went back to wearing gloves today, and did my best to manage my tempo. * Only played 17 holes, hole 4 is under repair for irrigation Pictured: Tee shots on holes 8 & 9, respectively. Popular Post Northern Monkey
Played my home course, Sidcup, again today. Am finding the new driver, Ping G430 Max, is really helping. As I’m getting more tee shots in the fairway, or just into the light rough at the edge, this has had the knock on effect of massively improving my approach shots. Had little bit of a shaky start but was on fire for the back nine with a gross 2 over for it. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
A little chilly due to the wind at the start of my round but it calmed down after the third hole. I managed to get back some of my distance I lost last year. I don’t know where I lost it or maybe I just left it in TN. I hit a few smokers today (for me at least). I was getting around the course pretty well at one under until I got to the 14th hole. Shorted my approach and chipped with a 2 putt for bogey. But killled my drive and 3 wood to be on the fringe of the par 5 15th. Chip and one putt for bird. On the 16th hole. Great drive but my approach was less than stellar, then the chip got hung in the collar and ball just trickled on the putting surface. Missed the putt and tapped in. Back to even again. 17 was a 160 yard par 3. Did I mention I got some distance back? Sent the ball over the back of the green. Great chip up for an easy par. Then made par on the par 5 18th. Ups and downs but cruised into the parking lot at even par. Dweed
Previously in years gone past, I had seen a score reversal in mid Sep thru early Nov when I had to stop playing. Last year though, my best really pretty much ended with the season ending. I curious and can't wait to start the new season in a few weeks or maybe days???? My question is, how long do you take before you start to feel that you're in pretty good new season form. Ready to take on all comers. For me it has usually taken 4-6 weeks of weekly play, which seems to correspond with mid May here in central MI. How about you all? jbern
Yesterday my brother and I were able to play Thousand Hills Golf Course in Branson, MO on our family trip. It is a par 66 and we ended up playing 13 holes. The course is set up interestingly so it makes the most sense to play 13 or 18 because #9 green is very far away from the clubhouse. If you’re ever in Branson and are looking for something shorter, fun, challenging and clean give Thousand Hills a try! Even though it’s a shorter course, there’s still 3-5 holes to use driver on. I ended up playing pretty nicely and was 3 over through 9 and 4 over through 13 holes. I was less than 6’ from a hole in one twice!
