Can shoes make a real impact on a golfer's ability to swing faster and increase their swing speed? This is what SQAIRZ has claimed with their previous models and built their platform on. This Testers Wanted opportunity from SQAIRZ golf shoes includes their new VELO golf shoe, the first-ever speed-rated golf shoe.

About SQAIRZ VELO

This shoe is packed with technology and some pretty bold claims. In SQAIRZ testing, they found golfers using the VELO averaged an increase of 2.9 MPH in swing speed and tighter dispersion. That alone is huge.

The other technology features that the SQAIRZ VELO incorporates are as follows:

  • Proprietary SQAIRZ NRG-Direct Technology for a reduction in energy loss.
  • Patented SQAIRZ toe box.
  • Proprietary Sta-Put lacing system.
  • New LaceLock system.
  • Patented AI-generated “smart-traction” system.
  • 100% waterproof but breathable materials.
  • New lightweight-response SQAIRZ NFG-Foam for additional comfort.

As I said, a lot of technology in a shoe. With the claims of a significant increase in swing speed and a new style, these are a must-test for our forum members.

Congrats fellas. I have a pair of Sqairz but I’m still not a huge fan. Maybe a different model would suit me better? Will be curious how these work for you.

I will add the bad back factor - so for all the old guys with arthritic backs and disc issues - we shall see the delta.

Still noodling testing ideas -- I am thinking of trying three pairs in a side by side comparison - old sqairz that I have, a puma spikeless and this new pair.  Gives baseline of shoe improvement and compares to spikeless for true stability and power analysis.

Nice, any walkers in the group of testers?

Weather permitting, I'll be walking 9-holes once or twice a week at my local 9-hole muni (one midweek event league game and one weekend early morning practice with friends round) and I'll be walking the some 18s through the test period too. I'm pretty harsh on all my footwear, so longevity and comfort will be tested.

This is a good idea. I don't have an older pair of Sqairz, but I do have 2 other pairs of shoes I could use as a baseline.

I DO have other older (and not-so-old) pairs of Squairz shoes, the oldest pair being at least 5 years old. Obviously, part of my testing and reviewing process will be to compare these new Squairz VELO shoes to those older models.

Congrats testers !!!

Interested to hear how these do and if anyone is able to directly compare them to previous models as I was hoping to, LOL !!!

I like my Speed Fire's, and they are extremely stable.  If the new generation is truly as good and lighter, that would be awesome, and I'll be purchasing a pair.  Really wish there was a brown color way of some sort tho.

Thanks all and MGS. I'm excited for this test as I'm not set on shoes for this year! Last year I only used spikeless shoes (Ecco Biom), so it'll be interesting to see whether I like switching back to soft spikes.

INTRODUCTION:

Hello again, fellow spies! Although I am known as "funkyjudge" (a nickname that I have had for more than 20 years), my name is actually Doug Mael. I am a semi-retired Professional Clubfitter and Clubmaker, and I live in Southeastern Pennsylvania (about 25 miles from Philadelphia and 10-12 miles from Trenton, NJ). I'm 75 years old as of last month, and have been playing golf for 39 years. I'm a competitive golfer and play in several leagues, and on two travel golf teams, plus on a winter golf tour that plays mostly in NJ plus the occasional tournament in PA. I'm also a traveling golfer, and take frequent golf trips throughout the USA and in the British Isles (mostly Scotland and NW England).

Until a couple of bouts with cancer and some other serious illnesses over the past 7 years, I played to a single-digit handicap. However, my handicap is currently 14.5 and I have only been below a 13 Index twice in the last 5 years.

Because I have prior experience with Squairz golf shoes, I am really excited to be included in this test. I currently own three pairs of Squairz shoes, and the two pairs that are newer than my 5 year old pair of original Squairz are in my regular golf shoe rotation. These two pairs (Speed Bold in black and Arrow model in red, white and blue — mostly white) are both very comfortable and supportive. However, I'm especially interested in the VELO model from Squairz because they are about a pound per pair lighter in weight and have the new comfort-fit foam footbed, both of which are targeted to provide greater walking comfort on the golf course .... did I mention that I almost always walk the course, often while carrying my clubs?

If these shoes are as comfortable and lightweight as advertised, while still providing superior support and stability, they will DEFINITELY be a regular fixture in my golf shoe lineup and rotation.

UNBOXING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

My Squairz VELO shoes arrived this afternoon (it's nice to have the Squairz warehouse less than 30 miles from my house!)

Squairzdelivery.jpg.f85a0817cbfc03b147031feabe32bebe.jpg

Squairzdeliverybox.jpg.1178b0b825b51870d455b1ddfa65bb1c.jpg

I was very pleased with the appearance of the shoes and the "bonus" Squairz socks, plus the nice little note on the inside of the box top:

Squairzunboxing.jpg.8ee2812cc9258b653272b53a0656ed51.jpg

These are definitely some great-looking shoes, and they feel great on my feet, too!:

Squairzunboxed.jpg.a49def55445c39f4fa8d2e63c82a38ee.jpg

(sorry if the photos are out of order; it wasn't my fault. The MGS system has a mind of its own).

My first impressions are VERY positive! The shoes look and feel great, and I have been walking around in the house with them on for almost an hour now.  They are not only quite stylish, they also feel nice and are lighter on the feet than my other earlier-generation Squairz shoes.

As long as the weather is cooperative next week (unlike this week, when we have had more than 5.75 inches of rain and scattered thunderstorms), I will be playing three rounds of golf while wearing these Squairz VELO shoes between next Monday and Thursday.  I will post updated impressions and data after I get them out on the course and put them to the "playing test".

That’s a great looking shoe!

Play like a champion today!
