Has anyone ever experienced club championship determined by stableford format? Why or why wouldn't this be a good idea? Thanks

At least here in Switzerland stableford is more common than strokeplay. In the 12 or so tournaments I have played in here only 1 has been strokeplay.

My Tuesday night league is modified stableford.  It's primary benefit, IMO, is pace of play - you're picking up after double bogey or double bogey equivalent.

I think there's a tremendous benefit to the participants - by focusing on scoring points.  It taught me how to think, what is the best path to the lowest possible score from this spot because bogey or net bogeyed earns a point in our system.  It's remarkable how many more pars you will make with that approach than the how do I get it on the green in regulation approach that most of us will choose.

Driver: Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  R flex   - 44.25

Fairways:  Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood  Alta CB red 65 R flex

Hybrid:  Ping G410  26 degree  Alta CB Red 70 R flex

Irons: Ping G430  7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex

Wedges:  Ping 195 S54, E58

Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat

Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5”

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

I run a stableford about every 3rd time I am asked to fill in and run the Wild Bunch game.  The Wild Bunch is mostly old retired guys and there are usually somewhere between 16 and 25 of us.

The stableford does two things; it speeds up the game somewhat, and does not let a single bad hole by one of the team players ruin the round. If one of the team takes a 9 on a par 4 the absolute worst he can do is put up a zero on the score card.

In single player format the same thing holds true. It speeds the game up by allowing the player who scores more than a bogie to pick up and move to the next tee and at the same time allows that same player to not destroy his game with a bad hole or two. Picking the ball up and moving on may not be an option if the round is supposed to be posted or if there are side games going on.

Stablefords are fun, fast and utterly confusing to score if you only hear part of the instructions.

The games I run I run the scores through a computer scoring program I wrote. So what I tell the guys, "Don't worry about any score but the gross score on each hole. I will take care of the rest". Most of the guys like that a lot.
