The Black Ops irons are a solid choice. After researching both here and on other platforms, it's clear that they consistently receive good reviews.  I’m interested in them.

I have 2 rounds scheduled for this weekend coming up. One at my home course and the other at a private course I’ve never played. Can’t wait to see how these rounds are with the Black Ops!

I’ll post stats after the rounds!

Just a day at the range. This is the XCOR2 PW vs the Black Ops PW. The carry distance seemed to be virtually the same, though the Black Ops seemed to have a higher trajectory. This to me seemed to be consistent throughout my comparison today. I used the PW, 9 iron and 7 iron. I put each of them head to head. I did not have the a launch monitor do unfortunately do not have definitive stats, but from my observations, the Black Ops had a higher trajectory, a crisper sounding contact, but the same distance as the XCOR2s.

Just shined up the xcor2's..Black Ops better show me something in the next few weeks bc the xcor2's have LOTS of tread left on the tires!

I feel like I'm in a similar boat. I feel like the sound is cleaner and maybe there is a little more stopping power but I'm not currently seeing any added distance or improved accuracy.

Mine still hasn't had the opportunity to hit a golf ball yet, but that higher trajectory sounds nice.. Could be the difference in putting from the green or chipping from the fringe

Just got done with 18 with the black ops..I knew, like with any new toy, there would be a learning curve getting use to new irons.. With that being said, we had good and bad moments together! They helped me save par quite a few times but also put me in the position to hit the hero shot to get to save par..Im wanting to get in at least 5 rounds before I write my "on the course" section but as of right now I'm thinking B- to C+ range, but it's only Day 1

I really like the look of the PXG Black Ops irons. The lofts are different from my current set, so I’m thinking of ordering the 7-W since I prefer using hybrids for the longer clubs. My hybrids cover the lofts of the PXG 4-6 irons, so that setup would work well for me.

They sell PXG at Golftown here.  I’m sure it’s only a matter of time they get the black ops irons in store.

So who is interested in lofts? How does the PXG Black Ops stack up against some of their top competitors in the game improvement line? Let's find out!

So here is a comparison of the Black Ops vs the XCOR2s which the Black Ops are supposedly going to replace, the Tommy Armour 845+ which MGS rated as the #1 Super Game Improvement irons and the Wilson Dynapower which MGS had rated as the longest game improvement irons of 2024. The lofts between the Black Ops 2 and the XCOR2s are identical. PXG went with a much more aggressive loft than the Tommy Armour which certainly could explain why the Tommy Armours were in the bottom half for distance in the super game improvement category. However, the Wilson Dynapower lofts were equal to the Black Ops or in some instances, 1 degree more aggressive than the PXGs. How much is the claim of superior distance more based on lofts vs actual capabilities of the club. I'm not sure I'll be able to answer this question in this test for the average golfer but certainly something to consider.

Screenshot_20240824_000551_Sheets.jpg.ad39f530927881b8c5835326f2b4c665.jpg

Disclosure: Before this test and before joining MGS, as an average weekend warrior golfer, I never truly paid attention to lofts of irons. This is something I think I'll certainly pay closer attention to in the future.

I've got your next question prepped. You're probably thinking that's all good and well for how the PXG Black Ops stacks against game improvement irons but how does the Black Ops compare to other PXG options. Well, here you go! The Gen7's which are being tested here have an interesting variation in lofts. PXG claims the Gen7 XP are their longest irons and they have the most aggressive lofts, 1 degree lower than the Black Ops across the board. The P's, on the other hand, are 2 degrees softer than the Black Ops. For comparison from where PXG has come from, the Gen1 irons were 3 degrees softer than the Black Ops.

Struggle bus today. These are the averages for my 2 rounds with the BlackOps.

I’m having a real hard time with the length. These are 1+ inch over my current clubs. I am hitting a lot of fat and left/hookshots, which is frustrating. I’m questioning whether or not this shaft and length is right for me. I shouldn’t have to make drastic changes for a club that was ‘fit’ for me to”work”.

I’ll Try again tomorrow!

PS-the 4i is actually the 5i. I lost the shot scope tab, so I’m using the 4 to represent the 5.

So I recently had a fitting with PXG. The experience was incredible and very thorough. I am an average golfer at best, being relatively new back to the game and still playing with a set of clubs from the 90s! With that in mind, I was fully expecting the black ops to be right up my street and to be walking away with a set of BO irons in the bag.

However, I was wrong. Upon seeing the BO iron range in the flesh (or steel), I found the top line and offset distracting and the head was a touch light for my liking. The fitter then tried me with 0311XP Gen 6 range and my word, what a club this was. The sound, feel, distance, all combined to make me feel like a player. After a few tweaks I was dialed in and ordered 5i-50 degree.

Thank you to the testers for the information before my fitting and helping me to choose PXG.

Haven't noticed any scratching yet and they seem to cut through the rough and hit off the turf in a similar fashion to the XCOR2s. The clubs make very clean contact.

Got to agree with @FallenSaber..I don't really leave much of a divot so not the person to asked about contact with the ground but I do seem to like the rough and can tell u PXG clubs in general don't seem to have the problems other clubs do hitting from that spot.. My buddies will club down from an 8 to a 7 in most cases bc of the rough while I'm still swinging the 8.. And my xcor2's still look new after about 8 months

I went in with a budget in mind, (thank you to the hero discount for helping out!). Unfortunately the Gen7 were out of my range so didn't try them. I'm glad he listened to my budget and didn't try me with them, would have felt like a game show contestant otherwise; "here's what you could have won"

Perfectly happy with my Gen6 choice!
