calculus on green Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) I have an average iron swing speed of 76-82 mph. What shaft flex should I be playing? I'm looking for recommendations based on my swing speed and other factors that might influence shaft selection. I've done some research here and there, and it seems like steelfiber i90 stiff is "too stiff", modus 120s is "not that different". Any suggestions? I'm trying to educate myself before seeing my local fitters, possibly narrow down to a few options so that I don't hit every shaft there is. cnosil Posted August 6 Posted August 6 unfortunately swing speed is not a good indicator of flex nor is the letter that the OEM paints on the shaft. There have been cases of low speed players using X-Stiff shafts and high speed players using softer flexes. If you are going to a fitter, let them do their job and find the shaft that works for your swing. Establish a budget so you aren't being put into shafts that are out of your price range. calculus on green Posted August 6 Author Posted August 6 okay, so let's forget the flex then. And let's say I don't want to go see my fitter for a good reason. What weight should I be considering? The main reason for this whole change is because I want to swing lighter clubs (not necessarily something less stiff) Quote
GolfSpy_APH Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Sounds like the best thing to do is go test or demo done clubs and shafts! I moved to Accra TZ i85 and love them! Shankopotomous Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) Its great you are doing some homework to be prepared for the fitting. Great advice to pick a budget number....or decide that $$ isnt a factor!! Then decide what is most important to you - distance, dispersion, trajectory, a combo of the above? And do you have an itch to scratch like me and really really want to try the steelfiber i90 regulars for comparison sake. Communicate all that to the fitter so they check your boxes as they do their thing to come up with the best fit for you. DG S300 shafts are 130 grams uncut so if you want to go lighter try something in the 105-110 range. if you like the DG shafts test the DG 105 shafts. They are softer shaft. The 120s is closer in flex to r200 but the shaft profile is still completely different. As has been mentioned we don’t have the necessary info from your swing or what might feel right for you. Also as mentioned the letter code on a shaft is irrelevant outside of the same shaft line and weight class. Only two real options get fit or spend time testing shafts in your iron cnosil 1 Quote
Nm243008 Posted August 15 Posted August 15 drop down to the 105 DG or look to the graphite world..... Quote
