I can't imagine too many professional golfers that appeared to have so much fun playing in front of crowds.  Chi Chi was definitely one of a kind!

My first set of clubs was a junior Chi Chi Rodriguez.  We kids often fought (verbally) over who got to be who in our local park wiffle-ball games.  Arnie, Jack, and Chi Chi were worth going to the mat over.  He will be missed but his legend will remain forever.

My introduction to watching golf regularly on TV came when I was about 10 years old. I watched Senior Tour events on ESPN with my Dad during the best time - Jack and Trevino as Tour rookies…Bob Charles, Jim Dent, George Archer…but the best to watch was Chi Chi and his toredor dance. He quickly became my favorite player with his personality and his trick shots. The ultimate was whenever Chi Chi and Trevino were paired together.

We all have those core memories from our childhood that stick with us forever - one of my best was summers with Dad, learning the game and watching Chi Chi. Rest in peace.

Truly a classic!

I really admire all those old school guys who worked hard and were more self made, eg they did not have all the prep programs and coaching starting from pee wee thru high school and into college that are so widely available now.

Plus consider just how well they played with the equipment they had available to them!!

I was so sad when I read the news. My dad and grandfathers all watched a lot of golf when I was little, and Chi Chi is the golfer who I remember the most from those times. I always admired his style and play. RIP.

When I was a young boy the PGA tour would come to Akron, Ohio and I was fortunate to be able to go to practice rounds with my dad.  On those practice days, you could get pretty close to the players. After a getting a pretty bad haircut, I went to a practice day and as Chi Chi came off of a green he started actually interacting with me and asked my about the disproportionately large hat on my noggin and I told him about the bad haircut.  He took a minute to talk to me about having a positive self esteem and disregarding what others thought about you.  I'll never forget those couple on minutes.

In 2016, I had the good fortune of attending a talk and Q and A with Johnny Miller at the US Open at Oakmont and was able to ask him about the set of 1945 MacGregor irons he used to win the 1973 US Open at Oakmont.   He told the gathering about the clubs and shared that at some point he lent the lower numbered irons in the set to Chi and Chi and he apparently lost them, never to be seen again!

Excellent take!👍🏾 You got me thinking ck. The entertainment--in addition to the game itself--back then was the golfers having a good time, making jokes, ribbing each other, etc. Nowadays, the entertainment is who has beef with whom, as in the Koepka-Dechambeau "beef" of a year or two ago. Times are always changing and I'm glad I'm old enough to have watched Chi Chi perform a time or two on tv.

R.I.P Chi Chi. Loved to watch him play and the stories he told. I still get a kick when watching the old WKRP tv show how Les Nesman pronounced his name.
