Regression of Competitive Golfer

Recommended Posts

Any advice on natural regression?? I was down around scratch last year and moved to a location that has much less golf. That has directly impacted my amount of practice I can be involved in. Therefore my golf game has taken a spiralling downfall. I honestly have not been playing awful but not to my standards. I am keeping it to 3-4 over par compared to the even rounds I was throwing down. My biggest problem which is almost directly due to lack of practice is wedge game. Whether this is 125yd out or 12 yard off the green wedge game used to be a huge asset to my game and I have not had the consistency needed to produce results.

Is this normal? Should I be expecting to get back to where I was if I am only playing 3-4times a month? Any tips on letting myself be ok with not being low handicapper anymore lol?

In my opinion you should not put expectations on yourself to shoot low without putting in the practice time needed to keep your game sharp. Not knowing your situation doesn't help. Do you have a yard? If so, you can always practice your short game at home. If you have a garage you can set up chipping, putting, and even a net. I'm still a full-time worker but set one of my garage bays up for golf. Sim, screen, putting mat, chipping board and such. All my practice sessions are at home. When I go to the course it is to play a full round. Just get creative and find ways to practice. I used to stick an old umbrella in the ground and chip into it from different distances.

Many of us can relate to this and agree without the time and practice there is not much you can do.  This Spring have had a lot of non golf activities, the result being instead of playing twice a week and practicing have been playing twice a month if lucky.  You should if a scratch player look into ways you can hit at home if can no longer get to courses.  My only saving grace is putting occasionally at course next door to our office.
