DAKDAK Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Being a master club builder, I've often had more clubs in the basement than I could ever use and have donated many sets to local inner city programs and would encourage others to do the same. Two weeks ago, I was rummaging around and found an old set of Adams A70S irons / hybrid combos that I had one in an outing. I had made them one inch longer and put on my preferred grips (Avon Chamois oversize) and used them for awhile. While I prefer forged muscle backs blades, I remembered these to be extremely easy to hit. Being a senior golfer (I quit stating my age after I reached 70), I have been seeing a decrease not only in distance but surprisingly also accuracy. I was thinking that I was swinging differently (harder) to compensate for loss of distance. Seeing the Adams set, I blew off the dust and gave the grips a good scrubbing and took them out to the range for a test. The irons were 10 - 20 yards longer than my blades. I did notice slightly less accuracy on the short irons but the hybrids (7 & 6 are hollow and the 5-2 are true hybrids) had no loss of accuracy and the distance and height increase was substantial. I will next be seeing if I can come up with a suitable mix and match combination. While no longer around, Adams made great equipment starting with their Tight Lies fairway metals (First to have low profile design) and overall clubs in general.
