Grip size

Heard Daily talking  the importance of being properly fitted for correct grip size. Basically most should have thickest grips available. Do most club fittings look into this?

If you feel it is an important aspect of a fitting,  check that the fitter does this and make sure it gets done.    Fitting is a generic term that people apply to demo days, big box salesman handing you a club and asking what you thing, and/or specialty fitting locations.   Based on that definition I would say most do not consider grips.

I played with standard grips for over 40 years, only switched to medium grips a couple of years ago. I should've switched a LONG time ago, I will never go back to standard grips again. Every player should consciously evaluate grip size before the next time they replace grips to make sure they're optimal!

Actually, of the two fittings I've had, neither included grip size.  I only changed from playing standard, for years, to midsize, when a Srixon fitter at a demo tent noticed my finger overlap and asked me about it.  He had me switch and felt the fit looked much better.  He suggested I at least try them and that's what I ordered on my current irons.  It took a short spell to get used to them but I like them.  One benefit is that I get less hand/finger fatigue.

I'm sure Daly has his opinion but I think it comes down to personal preference - short of gross misfit with palm/finger size.  I recall a period where jumbo grips were popular on drivers.  If memory serves, I think my Dad started using them (now that's going back a spell, he would be 100 this past April... love and miss you Dad!!)  Not sure if that is still a "thing" or not.  It's said that using to small a grip adds tension which we know is not a good thing.

In answer to your question, I suspect far too few fitters think to check grip size on their clients... but maybe not? 🤔

At my last fitting, they at least asked about grip size, but it’s not like they had a bunch of shafts for me to swing in midsize grips. But they did ask!

Grip size makes a huge difference. I just switched to the mcc +4. I like the fact that the grip is almost as thick at the bottom as the top. Makes is more comfortable for the lower hand

Somewhere along the line we've discussed it on the forum. While there is a standard recommendation there are other factors that can come into play, one of which is arthritis in the hands. My former golf partner, who has that issue, and wears a L sized glove uses Jumbo grips. Same with my wife (arthritis in the hands as well), she wears a Small size glove but uses Mid-size grips. The standard recommendations are just as starting point.

Oh and an unrelated pet peeve - why are all of the fittings with standard grips? I wear an XL glove, mid size grips with 3 layers of tape but have to hit demo clubs with standard size grips. 😡
