Up and down machine this morning.  Haven’t been playing well lately.  Played yesterday with a group that plays every weekend.  5-3-3 game.  Those are dollar amounts.  Team game Skins game and individual.  Shot an 84.   Pace of play was slow as we were a 5 some. Didn’t hit a lot of greens this morning but my chipping was on.  Chipped in on 18 - my 18th.  Had to start on 10 this morning - for a nice way to end the round.  26 putts might be my lowest.

OMG the old RGA course on Tryon Hills road!!!! I cut my teeth on that place. I have a lot of personal history at that place. My old man was from Raleigh. I have not played it in over 50 years now glad to see it still stands. I have a pic somewhere where my old man had a cut down club teaching me to hit a ball there at like 4 years old. 

I will give you one piece of ancient history about there. Richard Syces who was assistant Pro there in the 70s went on to be the long time golf coach at NCSU. I know he finally retired some time back and do not know if he is still living.

Man this made my day seeing this old course still exists. The other old course I cut my teeth on before moving to Charlotte was Cheviot Hills on US 1 which is long gone.

Sunday Vintage round. Macgregor M3T persimmon "Keyhole" driver, Macgregor M3T 4 wood, Power Bilt persimmon 7 wood, Irons 2 thru 9 1955 Hogan Precision blades, Wedge Hogan K grind 51*, SW Hogan Special Sand Iron 57*, Putter Standard Acushnet Bulls Eye. Ball a beat to within an inch of it's life Pro V1.

Pretty decent round with the old stuff lots of kicks for me. Had 2 highlights including a hole out for birdie on our par 4 17th with the old Hogan Sand Iron from like 50 yards. The second highlight was our Par 5 18th hole. I had popped up the old driver about 150 out. Had a great lie in the fairway and hit the old driver off the deck. Hit about a head high draw and it rolled out to about 210 or so. Eased the 5 iron into the green for the 3rd easy Par. Another highlight I nearly jarred one on our Par3 11th which was the hole I had my HIO on earlier this year. But yeah it was all kicks and giggles for me.

Looks like I am stuck on 85. Not really a greet round but it was ball striking wise. I know I airmailed several greens seemed to pick op distance on my irons for some reason. Maybe I found something on my swing on the vintage round. I told my playing partners I might as well have played the vintage stuff.

Played this round on 9-1-24 but forgot that was Sunday and we were off Monday for Labor Day and did not get on the forum in time to submit it. So @GolfSpy_BEN if this gets removed I understand haha.

Played a fairly problem free front 9 with most of my shots being clean and probably the best I can play. Few miss hits but nothing crazy. Back 9 was a different story. Once we hit hole 11 the driver started to spray and it was hard to recover after that. Good round none the less.

Posting this round separate from the last as it was played on a different day and also wasn't sure if you could post 2 in the same with the scoring system in place...

Course is about 1.15hr from my house so don't get to play it much (2nd time) but honestly it s a real bargain for what you get. Its very flat with ZERO bunkers but plenty of water/trees/wild grass to keep your eyes open. Very beautiful and well taken care of course! Doesnt hurt that the food is also great !

Front 9 felt sooo bad! If I cant get off the Tee box decent I just feel the rest of the game is off also... But for as bad as I felt I did not have a terrible Front 9. Back 9 was 8 strokes as I fixed the driver and here we are!

Not my best day but it was a pretty solid round. Just a few bumps in the road to remind me I need to practice more. Good day with the driver and the Ventus performed nicely with three drives over 300 yards. 

Unfortunately, I still need some work on my putting to capitalize on the stronger areas of my game.

Best round of the year on my home course.  A couple bad 30 yard shots cost me, or it could've been better.  Had one bad drive all day.  Hit it into the water off the tee on a par 5, and still scraped together a par somehow.

Great driver, super bad short irons, great wedges and putter.   Oh... It was also 108 degrees.   Hoping I'm about to see some score improvement soon.   Last year me would slap this year me in the face for complaining about low 80s, but it feels like I left a ton on the table.   On to next week.

We had to play the back nine twice today as they really aerated the front today.  Last week, they started but the machine broke and had to be repaired.  

Highlights include chipping in for par on the tough 11th hole, making a really long putt for par on the 11th hole for par, a birdie at the par 3 12th hole and having seven up and downs for par (five on the second nine).  

The downside included a less than stellar driving accuracy day (in the mid 60's percent), a long three putt on the 15th hole after a good drive and fairway wood and an unforced error on the second time playing the 10th hole leading to a double bogey.  

  

After a long weekend that included golf, volunteering at Key West Brewfest and rebuilding a deck, I was pretty sore.  Let's hope that I recover before next week's Titleist Long Game fitting!
