I had a chance to test the new Cobra AMP Cell Driver today. WOW!! This is going into the bag as soon as it is available. The loft is adjustable without affecting face angle. The head is also available in 4 different colors. I am EXCITED!!! I was not allowed to take pictures....

Do yourself a favor. Give it a whirl.

Allowed to say which four colors the heads are available in ? Black, white, and silver I'm assuming but the fourth is up in the air.

Did Cobra finally pick a slightly better shaft for their stock option there as well?

All of the fairways and hybrids are coming in the same colors as well. Ladies will have 3 different colors available.

 

There is also a tour head available at 440cc. MAP pricing on the Tour head will be $399.99, and the normal head will be $299.99.

No. I can't remember the exact shaft that we were hitting, but it didn't stand out as being something that I would want. The X stiff that we hit felt like a soft stiff.

Interesting that the the biggest revolution in driver design over the last few years is... the colour of the heads. I don't remember so much emphasis being put on head colour even 3 years ago. The various colours are cool I guess.

The driver head was pretty much maxed out 4 years ago. If they couldn't see the model and the sound was different I doubt many people would see much if any ball speed change out of a 910 vs a Dymo or even a 5900.

 

We do have lower spinning heads then before which is helping certain, more demanding golfers, with their overall launch conditions. That and the alteration of face angle to help out certain swings is where the difference is coming from IMO rather then just the purdy, gaudy, speed the head can put up.

I played a Cobra fairway for years but have yet to try a Cobra driver that I liked or that liked my swing either - I always get way too high a launch and way too much spin on any Cobra driver that I try.

 

I doubt this is Cobra's fault because they make a great product.

i think not offering black as an option is a mistake. While the masses are definitely (slowly) swaying towards white/silver, there is still a large crowd for black crowns that can't be ignored.

I've got pink fill in my drivers & putters...I tried to paint a driver, & I butchered a perfectly good TMaG Superfast TP...Oh well..lol....

My method for painting woods and putters (my 15* SH is painted matte black) is great, except the occasional chunk that puts a sky mark on it. Then I've gotta repaint the leading edge. So if one doesn't like the stock colors a club comes in, paint it!

Official release date that I have is Feb 8th. Right after the Show.... I'm sure that there will be pics up well before that.

Any idea what the price is gonns be?...Is $300 still the ceiling?.....

I think that $300 for the standard one and $400 for the tour was what I was told.
