Wide Spike and Spikeless shoes

Recommended Posts

While scrolling the most wanted list of spiked and spikeless golf shoes I noticed something. There was no mention of if a shoe comes in wide or if they tested wide shoes. I'm not sure how many golfers are in that category but that's a big plus for me. Needing to get a new pair of both it ruled out so many shoe brands. Don't get me wrong I love my footjoys but it would be nice to see if other spies have tested and used a wide shoe in other brands.

I'm in the same situation, but a little worse. I wear 2E, but in size 8. Other than Footjoy, most brands don't make wide in sizes below 9. (I'm looking at you, Sketchers, Nike, UA, and more.) I've given up on trying to find anything but FJ.

Yea it sucks its like I went through all the shoes to find some and its only a few like footjoy, new balance and I think sketchers. What makes it bad is I like to walk pretty much year round and a good shoe means alot.

Asics has wide models.  Also Ecco tends to run wide toe box, so that might help.  I'm in this same boat and am testing shoes every week to see what I land on. Expecting some Asics Kayano Gel Ace 11.5 wide to be delivered tomorrow.  Currently have Ecco Biom and they are fine.  Niether are inexpensive, but worth every penny. Buy once, cry once

Yea with between hunting, fishing and umpiring I wish I had the extra funds to buy like 6 pair of shoes and try them out.

I just order them online, wear them around the house for a bit and send them back.  I can tell pretty quick if they are going to work.  So usually 5 min is plenty.  Never had an issue with returns being rejected, etc.  box them back up nice and neat and good to go.

Also, your routine sounds like mine.  Hunting, fishing and baseball coaching!

Easiest thing to do is to go to a website, like golf galaxy, go to the shoe section & set your width preference and size and see what comes up. You'd be surprised what brands might have an extra wide golf shoe out right now in your size; that's how I found Callaway, Puma, and Asisics that technically should have fit in my size. I say technically, because the other issue with this is that one brands wide is another brands standard width.

I wear a 2E in all my normal brands of footwear (Ariat, New Balance, and Nike) but when I tried on the PUMA's, I'd damn near need a 4E to get my foot to actually fit in them. And when I tried on the Callaway's, the toe box was way narrower then the rest of the shoe so my foot didn't fit properly. Then there's the flip side, where New Balances tend to run wide naturally, so I don't always need a 2E for them.

Unfortunately, due to the inconsistency between brands, it's hard to find an actual good golf shoe that will work for all wide feet, (I currently wear NB FreshFoam soft spike golf shoes; they come in wide and are comfortable and have no problems on this North Texas soil) but you don't necessarily have to wear golf shoes to play golf. I have friends that swear by their indoor soccer cleats as that's the only thing they golf in. Plus, I use Merrell hiking shoes for a lot of outdoor stuff I do, and i've taken a pair to play in before as I didn't have my golf shoes with me, and I honest to god think they felt more comfortable & performed better then my NB golf shoes do for me (i'm actually testing this out right now and might be making a true permanent switch for myself). There's other good alternatives out there too, but most of the alternative shoe types aren't spiked, so they are more comfortable to walk in on & off the course, and they have good traction on the tread (due to the intent of the shoes performance) so why not use them if you have a pair or brand you like & know they fit well and might actually work well forgolf too?

LOL yea it really sucks between may through june along with september through. With all the fishing tournaments, baseball tournaments then deer season its amazing how I find the time to golf. I will have to try that. Returning things like shoes has always had me worried

I have thought about that. I just wish we had more reviews is what I was getting at. But I have thought about using something other than a golf shoe which should be very interesting project.

You could always try your baseball turf shoes.  I've worn Nike trail running shoes a few times and other than them not being waterproof and a bit light on stability and traction, they were OK. Not great, but passable for a round or two in a pinch.

New Balance and FJ have 4E wide shoes.  It's about the only brands that fit my flinstone feet!

Both always have last years models or deals on them too

I used Altra hiking/climbing shoes two years ago. They were fantastic!

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.
